Weenie of the Week #6 of 2006
"Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerry Connolly (D) was named "Weenie of the Week" on Friday by a popular political blog, or web log, that each week selects Virginia's biggest blockhead.
Connolly earned the dubious honor after the Not Larry Sabato blog (http://notlarrysabato.typepad.com) bashed the Democrat for supposedly seeking to make political hay out of the death of Republican Jack Herrity, who passed away Wednesday.
According to the blog, "Connolly, sporting the worst poll numbers for a Fairfax Chairman in over two decades, tried to begin positioning himself for re-election this week — by rewriting history about recently deceased former Chairman Jack Herrity — in Herrity's obituary."
“Not Larry Sabato,” Fairfax County political activist Ben Tribbett, quoted Connolly as saying about Herrity, "He was a political adversary, but he would do it more often than not with a certain twinkle in his eye. It was more the love of the fight than the substance of the moment."
In response, Connolly said no one should give merit to Tribbett's musings.
"Ben is an idiot," Connolly said. "Do you know Ben Tribbett? The guy's got some problems. Seriously."

UPDATE:
Congratulations to Gerry Connolly, who is the first person to win back to back Weenie of the Week awards! Can anyone stop a three-peat next week?

Don't forget the original Larry Sabato's mustache!!!

Speaking truth to idiocy. You have to respect that.

I'll give Gerry this much, at least he's willing to put his name on what he says about NLS. Which puts him above 50% of the comments on the site.

Proof positive of my previous assessment of Connolly. The man's an egotistical maniac.

Ben, your blog, frankly, continues to become more and more irrelevant.
You haven't posted anything on the GA session or the Webb announcement, easily the big issues in VA politics right now.
Instead, we continue to receive your personal agenda. I'm really honestly disappointed. I hope you'll refocus on the things that are actually HAPPENING in Virginia politics---of consequence.
