I have never been so pissed
Shaun Kenney yesterday accused me of "Jewbaiting" Harris Miller.
Since I am Jewish, I find this to be the most offensive thing ever said about me.
I thought about demanding an apology, but nothing could be said to take back this disgusting slur. That also goes for Jim Riley who implied the same thing.
Aren't they both Catholic? Catholics calling a Jewish-American a jewbaiter? That's as bad as calling a black person the n word. They need to apologize, whether you will accept it or not.

Shaun and Jim should know better than this.

Slur is right NLS. Both Kenney's have attempted to use Jews to make this attack. That's the Jew-Baiting going on here.

As I've said elsewhere, I'm pretty sure that this whole thing is a tempest in a teapot. While the media can properly be scored for ignoring a comment for which a Conservative would be savaged, I have no reason to believe that Webb's comment was motivated by anti-Semitism.
And Ben, for as long as you've been in politics, I have a hard time believing that this is "the most offensive thing ever said about" you. ;-)

trust me I have said much worse about you
Posted by: | May 22, 2006 at 09:53 AM
They are also "Jewbaiting" three original members of the Webb "draft" - Josh Chernila, Lee Diamond, and myself - all of whom were raised Jewish. Utterly bizarre, but then again, what do you expect from George Allen supporters? These people will say anything to smear Webb, try to get Democrats to (foolishly) nominate Harris "Sure Loser to Allen" Miller on June 13, and get their boy/man re-elected to a position for which he is unsuited and bored.

Thank you for standing up to them NLS.

In an effort to counter the "anti-Christ" statement's traction and paint Miller in a negative light you take a comment he made and instead of actually arguing against it's point you attack his word usage by stating that he's Jewish. To what end? Does this discredit the statement or the man? Is pointing out the futility of such a post jewbaiting? Is Larry Sabato jewbaiting when he said the "anti-Christ" statement can come back to haunt Webb?
Webb's "anti-Christ" statement was in poor taste. Your post attempting to discredit Miller's analogy was in poor taste. People are going to take both of these and come to conclusions independent of your own faith and just screaming that you're insulted will do nothing to solve the problem.
Start dealing with the issues at hand, with the actual meat of these issues and not the semantics and people won't be left with such negative impressions.

Yet, you, NLS, have said worse about others. And I doubt that this is the most offensive thing ever said about/to you.
However, I agree with Lowell, the end.

All I did was put out Webb's statement and then your post on the debate and left it as an open topic for discussion.

If anyone would like to see exactly what I posted, here it is:
http://virtuconindustries.blogspot.com/2006/05/updated-did-webb-make-anti-semetic.html
As you can see, I leave it with an open-ended question as to what are we to make of this for people to discuss.
Frankly, I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt and just say that he is clueless and not attacking Miller on his religion.

Insintuate-
1.To introduce or otherwise convey (a thought, for example) gradually and insidiously. See synonyms
2.To introduce or insert (oneself) by subtle and artful means.
3.Post something that makes it seem something nefarious was stated. See Riley's post.

The new Virginia GOP slogan:
Allen Supporters For Miller!!
Posted by: thegools | May 22, 2006 at 11:06 AM
Ben: That's not really helping you make your point here.
Jason is right, Webb should have been more careful in what he said, because he should have known that the bloggers would make a big deal out of it, and it was a statement that very easily could have been taken out of context, your post about Miller was a little questionable, can we get over it?
More importantly, would it fucking kill anyone around here to admit that they've made a mistake? I'm not talking to everyone who blogs, of course, but I don't want to list names either, so I"m asking the general blogger population.

I think you mean "insinuate."
And in this day and age, no one should be bringing anyone else's religion into politics in a negative sense. I thought we got over that back in 1960. If anyone does or appears to do so, whether the victim is Democrat, Republican, Independent, etc., I'll point it out as I did here and would gladly do so again.
All I can say is, (the real) Larry Sabato thinks Webb made a blunder.
http://www.wvec.com/news/topstories/stories/wvec_local_051906_miller-webb_debate.3c0c1.html
From the article:
His use of a hot-button New Testament term on Miller, who is Jewish, may haunt Webb, said Larry J. Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics.
“It means he’s getting a lesson in what you can and can’t say,” Sabato said.

There it is, folks: all the high minded intellect and class we've come to expect from Ben.

"I thought about demanding an apology, but nothing could be said to take back this disgusting slur. "
Quoth the man who called a fellow blogger a "bitch" once. Oh, and regarding another blogger: "slut."
It's nice to see that the rules apply to everyone, isn't it?

"I think you mean "insinuate.""
Good catch. Must proof read.
"All I can say is, (the real) Larry Sabato thinks Webb made a blunder."
Well let's bow in reverence to Larry Sabato...all that is holy and good in Virginia politics.
"And in this day and age, no one should be bringing anyone else's religion into politics in a negative sense."
Nobody did. You have made illogical conclusions that you've propped up using other people's opinions.

I also am Jewish. On my website I go out of my way to call Harris Miller "the anti-christ of outsourcing" just to show how incredibly vapid it is to claim that this is an anti-Semitic slur.
I have never read that popular series of novels about the Christian end times. I do not know whether the anti-christ in those novels is Jewish or not.
I am guessing that maybe the anti-christ in those novels is Jewish and hence that is where this nonsense is coming from.
These are novels. Webb may or may not have read them. This accusation against Webb or NLS is stupid, irrespective of who NLSs or Webb's mothers were.

My mom isn't Jewish, thus I will refrain from commenting on this.
Posted by: not gretchen bulova | May 22, 2006 at 11:30 AM
Jonathan, I agree, but this has nothing to do with the original incident at the debate. I commented on what I saw in the debate, and didn't even mention the outsourcing comment and got dragged into it by these thugs.

"""Quoth the man who called a fellow blogger a "bitch" once. Oh, and regarding another blogger: "slut.""""
Was it true? Who was it? Would she like to meet me?
I keep thinking that there must be some personal benefit to be derived from blogging for several hours a day, and this may be it.
Posted by: Jonathan Mark | May 22, 2006 at 11:35 AM
I can't believe Not ORiley didn't even apologize for calling a jewish blogger a "jewbaiter". Is this open season on the Pope?
Posted by: | May 22, 2006 at 11:49 AM
No, the "antichrist" in the "Left Behind" series is not Jewish (http://www.slate.com/id/45483/)
"The 'Left Behind' series, co-written by Tim LaHaye, the prominent right-wing screwball and husband of Beverly LaHaye, the even more prominent right-wing screwball, and Jerry B. Jenkins, who, his biography states, is the author of 130 books, which is a lot of books for one guy to write, is a phenomenon. Ten million copies of the series have sold already--hundreds in my local PriceClub alone. "Left Behind" is the Harry Potter of the Armageddon set."
[...]
"LaHaye doesn't believe that the Antichrist will be Jewish. He will be a European gentile, who will kill lots of Jews. "
