According to the Washington Post (12/31/95):
"Part of Allen's challenge has been to balance his outsider instincts with the demands of governing. On occasion his brash, unvarnished style left him estranged from the political and corporate establishment. Even some friends complain that Allen relies too much on a narrow circle of thirtysomething advisors who call themselves the "A-Team" -- complete with T-shirts and lightning-bolt lapel pins."
What does the Anti-Defimation League have to say about this symbol?
"The symbol is frequently seen in neo-Nazi tattoos and graffiti and characterizes the beliefs of neo-Nazis and racist skinheads – violence, anti-Semitism, white supremacy and fascism."
I'm not accusing George Allen of anything- yet. However, given the last few weeks, questions must be asked of him about this original symbol. Allen has been accused of racist and anti-Semitic behavior in the past month- and that is what the ADL says the lightning bolt is supposed to symbolize.
What did the original A-Team mean to symbolize with their lightning bolts? Could an image of these pins be released?
It's worth noting that Nazis used both the single and double lightning bolts. The double lightning bolts are the most remembered, as they were the symbol of the SS. But the Hitler Youth used single lightning bolts, like this.

Weird Headline. 6 toupees?

Is Allen now claiming to be the heir of Zeus? Is he embracing his newfound Greek heritage?
Posted by: | September 24, 2006 at 12:27 PM
Ben - better have some pictures of the Allen team's lightening bolts. Or something else besides a quote from the Post and irrelevant historical footnotes.
Otherwise, I urge you to not make wild speculation that would play into Wadham's hands.

This looks like another exciting blogosphere controversy.

Does this have to do with Allen's just released negative flyer attacking Webb on women's rights?
Sad spectacle that Allen is trying desperately to position himself to the left of Webb on womens issues. You know Allen's internal numbers look bad when he attempts to pull such a laughable stunt.
I guess his campaign thinks women are so gullible.

Oh, wonderful! Looks like we've got another 200-comment pissing match awaiting us. With the election just over a month away, I'm happy to see that everyone's using their time so wisely.

This is once again going to be exciting. I love these "blogosphere" debates.
Posted by: | September 24, 2006 at 12:53 PM
Is this about ham sandwiches? Has the A-Team gone on an all pork diet?
Posted by: | September 24, 2006 at 12:54 PM
Yeah, "lightning bolts"? Is it the SS or Zeus ?
Posted by: | September 24, 2006 at 12:57 PM
The dumbass probably drew SS logos on his notebook in Jr. High.

Actually, before this even begins, I'd like to make some predictions:
Charles will say it's not a big deal, even if Allen actually killed someone.
Phriendlyjaime will say "hahahahaha" and mock Charles for being so terrified.
Dannyboy will say "dude" and then say something obvious as though it's insightful.
Josh will write a lofty treatise using one-sentence paragraphs to make it seem more important, or possibly copy and paste one of his old posts about Webb sculpting statues.
Anyone else have predictions?

I think anon 12:58 has summed this up nicely.
