Its all just spin. To believe that George Allen would stand up for women's issues more than Jim Webb is a fallacy. The Allen campaign is probably the most loathesome bunch of scoundrels Virginia has seen since the end of segregation.
I wouldn't say they have all the momentum back, NLS. That's an overreaction. Not everyone is politically ignorant enough to fail to realize that Sen. Allen doesn't do a damn thing for women.

Just Politics and you couldnt be more wrong Ben, all the momentum is for Webb.

Zogby
Allen 49
Webb 43.5
BTW, did anyone else notice the deer head story was out of Bum pass Virginia; is that how good a QB Allen was?

Atleast they didn't mention Hitler or attack Webb's religion...WHEW.

Why does Allen always hid behind skirts : his Mom, his wife, right wing Academy grads, etc. ? Why ?

Just watched the ad. Total negative BS from Allen campaign. None of these women live in Virginia AND they were sought out by the Allen "swiftboat" team. Webb needs to get the info out about how many Navy billets were opened up by him while Secretary during the FOUR years he served in the Reagan Administration. Talking about the treatment of women...lets find out why Allen's divorce papers are sealed. Want to guess?

That video is bad for Webb.
But I have a video of George Allen shooting a female, ripping off her head, and stuffing it in mailbox:

Why did Governor George Allen fund VMI's long effort to bar admission to women?
Posted by: Bubby | September 28, 2006 at 04:33 PM
cuz she served turtle soup one day?
Posted by: | September 28, 2006 at 04:33 PM
We all new (that includes you too NLS) that this race was going go get ugly. Webb needs to respond to this with an ad featuring women and women's advocacy groups who support him and are opposed to the policies of Allen. This issue can be neutralized if handled correctly NLS. Why would you spin this in the opposite direction?

There is nothing devastating about this ad. The fact that you claim it is devistating is the most mind boggling thing about it.
The ad reminds me of the people Allen got to defend himself against the n-word. They are a bunch of right-wing fanatics who support Allen's agenda, and not people who are interested in telling the truth.

Webb called down the thunder and now he's got it.
Posted by: marco | September 28, 2006 at 04:41 PM
Bubby - That was actually Governor Wilder and his AG.

WILTING WEED!!!!!!!

For those keeping score, the commercial count is:
Webb- 2 positive ads
Allen - 2 positive, 2 negative ads
I don't personally think its devistating, but I'm biased. I agree Webb should come out with a very positive women's issues ad with advocacy groups backing him.
Oh, and Webb didn't bring down the thunder, Allen's just a shit.
Posted by: Doug | September 28, 2006 at 04:45 PM
And this ad would have come out no matter what preceded it. There is no cause and effect with what Allen's been through.

The Service Academies admitted women thirty years ago, and it worked out. Why did George Allen strive to prevent women from entering VMI ten years ago?

"Just watched the ad. Total negative BS from Allen campaign. None of these women live in Virginia AND they were sought out by the Allen "swiftboat" team."
And your point is?
They're believable, they're sympathetic, and they're telling the truth.
And this ad is a killer for Webb.
Stop whining.

Doug - Actually, Allen has another incredible positive ad out today with John McCain. You need to change your count to reflect that one.

Bubby - Once again, you're confusing Allen with Wilder.

how very persuasive I.Publius.

George Allen, and his AG James Gilmore squandered hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on legal fees fighting to keep women out of VMI. A mere 10 years ago.
Posted by: Bubby | September 28, 2006 at 04:56 PM
Bubby - Once again, Doug Wilder was the one that started the litigation and spent most of the money and time. Allen inherited the policy and the litigation and simply continued to press the case Wilder had established for VA.

Women "should not be in foxholes," Allen said. "The purpose of the armed services is not to be a social experiment." (On October 9, 2000, The Washington Post reported)
* Gov. George Allen said that opening VMI to women was a threat to the “future of educational diversity.” (The Washington Post, 5/22/1994)
* George Allen in a commencement speech in 1994 placed himself on the side of those opposing opening VMI to women calling it a “two-century-old fight between those who seek, through the device of an all-powerful federal government, to impose their political views and wishes on the rest of us.” (George Allen Commencement Speech, VMI, May 21, 1994)
* George Allen says that it is unpatriotic to support women entering VMI. George Allen called those pushing to make VMI a coeducational university “federal bureaucratic nannies and pests” who, “despite their public words…[were] motivated by an obsession with destroying VMI as we have known it, because they blanch at what VMI stands for: The traditional American values and virtues of moral character, personal discipline, self-reliance and an unabashed and unashamed love of home, state and country, and the willingness to fight to defend them. In other words, the most politically incorrect value of modern times -patriotism.” (George Allen Commencement Speech, VMI, May 21, 1994)
* Allen implies that those pushing for women to enter VMI are undermining “traditional American values and culture.” Allen strongly supported attempts to block women from entering VMI saying that their “very existence stands as a perpetual obstacle to their attempts to undermine traditional American values and culture, and remake America in their own relativistic, valueless and cartilaginous image.” (George Allen Commencement Speech, VMI, May 21, 1994)
