And bless this woman- a mind is like a parachute- it only works when open:
Linda Ponstenriender, a 1982 Naval Academy grad who was recruited to speak at a press conference commandeered by the Allen campaign earlier this month, said she has since heard from Jim Webb and liked what he has to say. Today, Ponstenriender officially endorsed Webb’s candidacy.

Doug, is she in one of Allen's ads?
Posted by: furrycat | September 29, 2006 at 06:45 PM
That is special!
Posted by: bacchus | September 29, 2006 at 06:45 PM
You know the right would be far more credible and be in a position to demand more respect if they would just admit that Allen is a racist but the reason they are voting for him is because they value his conservative policies and not his personal behavior. They should really stop trying to insult every one's intelligence by claiming that all of these people are lying and that "macaca" was just made up on the spot.
Posted by: UVA08 | September 29, 2006 at 06:46 PM
Allen needs get out of the race, now.
Posted by: | September 29, 2006 at 06:49 PM
UVA: SO true.
Posted by: Nova | September 29, 2006 at 06:50 PM
I don't know if she is one of the women in the ad. I sort of think not, but have no real clue.
Posted by: Doug | September 29, 2006 at 06:52 PM
I like the graphical additions to the banner on the right!
Posted by: lokiloki | September 29, 2006 at 06:53 PM
oh, this is important from the other teammate who came forward, for when i.Preposterus and marco show up:
In the preparation of the original article that included Sabornie's unattributed quotes, Salon never communicated with anyone from Daily Kos, the campaign of Allen's Democratic challenger Jim Webb or any Democratic Party entity.
Posted by: Doug | September 29, 2006 at 06:55 PM
M/D polling is now official:

Posted by: lokiloki | September 29, 2006 at 06:57 PM
Doug (6:55), I'm not sure that is important, because those two are going to say whatever they think helps Senator Macaca, no matter where the truth lies.

Do you think you can add a bespittled pair of little girls shoes to the mix in your "What's next?"
Posted by: Kathy | September 29, 2006 at 07:10 PM
Doug.... She IS one of the women from the September 13th conference....
Go to www.raisingkaine.com to see the excerpt. BTW does Raising Kaine take forever to upload for everyone else too?
Posted by: UVA08 | September 29, 2006 at 07:11 PM
If the poll quoted by lokiloki is right, both parties have irretrievably suffered by the mud-slinging campaign.
Posted by: Poli-Carp | September 29, 2006 at 07:11 PM
"both parties have irretrievably suffered by the mud-slinging campaign"
lol.
ha ha ha.
Allen's sinking fast.
Posted by: | September 29, 2006 at 07:13 PM
Poli-Carp.... how can you say that when Webb moved up a point from the last poll? I know that's statistically insignificant but it doesn't seem to show that he has suffered or that voters think he has been mudslinging.
Posted by: UVA08 | September 29, 2006 at 07:15 PM
Allen's trying to drag Jim into the mud with him. That's the only way Georgie can win.
Posted by: Mono-Bass | September 29, 2006 at 07:17 PM
MSNBC has the M/D poll up.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15065908/
Posted by: ifthethunderdontgetya | September 29, 2006 at 07:18 PM
Ooops, didn't see lokiloki already posted it.
Posted by: ifthethunderdontgetya | September 29, 2006 at 07:20 PM
UVA- right, I know that. Furry had asked if she was in the recent commercial. I doubt it. Also, this is part of an endorsement by many military women. It was just shocking that one of the women in that original orchestrated press conference that Allen's campaign put together.
Posted by: Doug | September 29, 2006 at 07:21 PM
Doug... my bad, I didn't read all of your post. I am jumping back and forth between this and a paper on whether specialization in the court system decreases adherence to authority (Supreme Court precedent) Sounds fun right :-p ..... And yes, on a Friday night. It's that type of week coming up next week.
Posted by: UVA08 | September 29, 2006 at 07:25 PM
Oy, no problem. I'm so fried I have no idea why I'm looking at my computer- other than my kids are engrossed in Star Wars (yeah baby, episode IV, start with the pocket protector jokes once again) and I can barely read this stuff after working through two weekends and doing 12 hour days. I want to go back to school. :)
Posted by: Doug | September 29, 2006 at 07:28 PM
Dudes, it's Friday night. I just finished a BBQ cheeseburger and a couple of Stone IPAs. Time to relax.
Posted by: TMU | September 29, 2006 at 08:04 PM
Caol Ila 12 year old. And I DO NOT mean a congressional page. Whisky.
Posted by: Doug | September 29, 2006 at 08:22 PM
So, did Tom Davis and Frank Wolf know about Mark Foley's little problem? As I stated elsewhere, the page's employer said he told the House GOP leadership a year ago about Foley's e-mails.
Posted by: PM | September 29, 2006 at 09:25 PM
Doesn't the democrats have anything to run on but the "n" word. I guess not, because if the race based on issues Webb would not have a chance. So, only negative campaigning will work for the Democrats. You defintely have the media on your side. MSNBC couldn't wait to post the poll.
Posted by: David | September 29, 2006 at 10:12 PM
David- mom wants you off the phone line. And she knows what you're doing.
It's "don't the democrats" you big lug. You couldn't carry Jim Webb's water and you are the last in a long line dumb enough to come on here and say we don't talk about the issues. Both sides do, and only idiots say things like you just did.
Now, have some warm milk and settle down, it's bed time.
Posted by: Doug | September 29, 2006 at 10:22 PM
What's up with the picture of the turtle whispering in a young Franco Harris' ear on the sidebar?
Posted by: | September 29, 2006 at 10:44 PM
So, is the argument over yet?
We now have 8 people on the record that Allen is lying about whether he used the n word: 8 people all of whom came forward on their own (rather than organized by the campaign from campaign employees): one of which who originally told his story without expecting it to go public. Some of these stories are even corroborated by others who remember them being discussed AT THE TIME.
The deer head story has three different people who confirm it.
Can we stop pretending that this is deniable now? Allen's rebutalls have nothing of substance other than "George Allen would never say that" and now we ALSO find that there was a pact amongst these very people to not speak ill of Allen, starting in 1991.
Oh, and Sabato is apparently sticking with his story as well.
So, again, I think it's really time to call the A-Team out here. They've barely even been trying to seriously argue the issue anymore. Are they really going to continue to maintain that Allen wasn't lying?
Posted by: plunge | September 29, 2006 at 10:52 PM
Doug-big game tomorrow. Iowa is going to be tough.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, I love celebrating Jim Webb with a big fat glass of chianti.
I think the A-Team is crying.

Just wanted to say that the fireworks to kick of UVA's goal of raising 3 billion dollars was great.
Posted by: UVA08 | September 29, 2006 at 11:23 PM
Re Rep Foley: How's this for the ooggey factor?
"Foley was part of the Republican leadership, holding the post of deputy whip. He also chaired the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus."
Sick, hypocritical bastard. So much for "family values."
Posted by: LAS | September 29, 2006 at 11:24 PM
Go Hokies, beat GT!
Posted by: Doug | September 29, 2006 at 11:26 PM
Hell yeah, Doug!
So Allen had a group devoted to protecting his political career? Is it like his own form of Skull and Bones? That is so creepy. We should write a movie or something about it. We could call it "The Deerhead Society."
Yeah, I like that. "The Deerhead Society."
Posted by: Dannyboy | September 30, 2006 at 12:35 AM
Cantor is Chief Deputy Whip. When is Nachman going to get on this?
Posted by: | September 30, 2006 at 12:44 AM
Dannyboy, cast, please?
Something that creepy MUST have a role for Christopher Walken.
Posted by: LAS | September 30, 2006 at 01:42 AM
If you really think about it, EVERY good movie has a part for Chris Walken. The part could be small or it could be big, but basically, he makes movies better.
Posted by: phriendlyjaime | September 30, 2006 at 02:29 AM
So it's NOT another teammate. It's an old teammate who decided to stand behind his previously anonymous statements.
