A comment tonight here directed people to George Allen's website. I had not visited this site in quite some time.
I urge everyone to visit Allen's site. In all the campaigns I have watched, I have never seen such a negative front page on a website for a candidate before.
There are more attacks on Jim Webb when you visit this front page, than positive things for George Allen.
Allen's campaign wants to talk issues? What a joke!
Besides being a very unfriendly and ugly site, it reads like the National Enquirer. 100% pure defense, pretty sad really. Not much about G. Felix there at all.
Clearly, the Allen campaign is entering bunker mode and is down to lobby turds over the wall at Webb in the hopes they can ride out the storms until the election.

I cannot believe people actually say that they don't like Jim Webb's site. Allen's site looks like a bunch of flunked computer techs got drunk and created it with their eyes stapled shut.
I mean, the same picture in front of different locations, with the PHOTOSHOPPED shadow in the background?
What a joke.
So, is Allen going to be forthcoming and truthful about the woman thhat WAS for him and is NOW FOR JIm Webb?
No, but he's a fearful, lying Republican, did you expect anything different?
I almost feel bad for the guy, bc at this point, his situstion is just sad.
I hear more will come out on Allen in the next few days...I mean, how bad could it possibly get?
Posted by: phriendlyjaime | September 30, 2006 at 01:16 AM
And the Allenhq site is almost as bad. You know you're losing when you start showing that face to the world.
Posted by: Not John S. Mosby | September 30, 2006 at 01:16 AM
Looks like someone found the bevel tool in Photoshop. Impressive, if this were 1998.
Posted by: jcjcjc | September 30, 2006 at 01:24 AM
Been pointing this out for awhile. It's been like that since BEFORE this latest mess.
Real contrast with Jim Webb's site, which has no mention of any of the scandals and, indeed, well.... talks issues. Nowhere near as exciting, but just goes to show what a bizarre alternate reality Allen's A-team inhabits.
Posted by: plunge | September 30, 2006 at 01:34 AM
Good God! First time I've taken a look at that piece of drecht.
I confess; I was one of those people who complained about Webb's site. No more!
Posted by: LAS | September 30, 2006 at 01:37 AM
plunge-you are absolutely right.
Posted by: phriendlyjaime | September 30, 2006 at 01:38 AM
Allen's site is awful and so negative. total turnoff.
Jim Webb's site is very hard to read. Should increase his text size a bit and change the font type. Very strenuous on the eyes.
Webb campaign site - C+
Allen's - F
Goodnite.
Posted by: furrycat | September 30, 2006 at 02:02 AM
I have to agree on Webb's site being sub-par. Unfortunately, that's pretty much characteristic of his campaign.
It's nice and all to style yourself as rebelious and fresh and non-establishment.
But you know what? Professional consultants actually DO know a thing or two about elections, media relations, and a whole bunch of other fundamentals that need to be so slick that the candidate never has to worry about him. I just don't see Webb's people as being competative with even the mediocre professional consultants on that. They don't even have a decent grassroots DYI feel.
It's too bad, because Webb is a great candidate in a race that could not have more fallen in his lap than if he'd wished it.
But here we are, unfortunately, in a situation where Allen is already just _crushing_ Webb in TV and mail pieces. You want to wonder why Webb isn't walking away with this thing, and there's your reason for you. It's pouring into the mailboxes.
Posted by: plunge | September 30, 2006 at 02:15 AM
Um, I wouldn't count Webb out just yet.
I don't see it getting any better for Allen, and I happen to believe the debate in October will be the clincher for the race, and it's going to go Webb.
People forget that Webb is creative, a "Hollywood fiction writer", as some say.
So don't expect the last leg which is worth over $3,000,000 to be boring and low-key.
Posted by: phriendlyjaime | September 30, 2006 at 02:25 AM
with the sexual predations of Foley spilling over into the Congressional leadership, and with Allen's on moral problems- expect nothing but negative 24/7. Their base despite what you see on line will be demoralized. Negativity, and the attempts to suppress the indie vote going with Democrats- is all they got left at this point. What can they do that they haven't already done to us? At some point they are discovering even they are subject to the law of diminishing returns.
Posted by: akaison | September 30, 2006 at 02:31 AM
I've never counted Webb out, but the reality is that as bas as things have gotten for Allen and will get, unless Webb can connect with voters on who he is and why they should care, he just wont get the turnout he needs.
Plus, mail pieces are essential at this point in the game. Allen has begun to blanket his, and believe me: when people read ONLY Allen's side of every story, Webb's negatives WILL go up.
Look at Kaine's win. His people worked their butts off to solidify his positive pro-Warner image very early on, and then kept it alive with mail and tv. Webb is still largely undefined for most voters, and the fact is that the person who is going to have the most power to define Webb is, as it happens, Allen. It's just a matter of money and expertise.

whoo-ee. talk about running scared.
Posted by: Matt in VA | September 30, 2006 at 03:36 AM
Yeah, that website's almost as negative as this one.
Posted by: Insider | September 30, 2006 at 04:22 AM
Allen will fall below 40% in the coming weeks. He is still lying about claiming he never used the word nigger.
When will Allen admit he learned his racial hatred from his mother.
A couple of horny women cannot save Allen now he is in meltdown mode.
Looks like the GOP covered up Foley's disgusting behavour allowing the perve to assult young boys for over a year.
What did the Virginia deligates know and when?
Posted by: | September 30, 2006 at 06:28 AM
That's an aspersion!
Posted by: Horny Women Vote Too | September 30, 2006 at 07:17 AM
haha- great read, and great comments. I love reading a bunch of insiteful and honest comments along the lines of we really like Webb, but here are things his campaign could do better, etc. Then pops on poor lonely Insider "waaaah, this site is mean".
Makes my coffee tastes great.
Any smart computer folks out there know if there are external traffic tools that show you number of visitors going to the campaign sites and the various political blogs around the state? I should know this, but I've never really thought much about it, but I'd like to get a feel for the balance and what percentage of the population actually look at anything political online (sounds pretty hard).
Posted by: Doug | September 30, 2006 at 07:41 AM
Will Sen Allen now condemn his fellow house republicans that allowed a known sexual pervert to prey on small boys. The GOP knew about Foley a year ago yet covered it up.
Perhapse when Sen Allen come out from hiding we can get some answers.

Check out the website for Webb in Hampton Roads. www.webbgrassrootshamptonroads.com. It's very good - I go to it for info more than I go to the webbforsenate.com site.
Posted by: eileen | September 30, 2006 at 07:43 AM
Insider.... The difference is that we aren't running a campaign. The difference is we aren't whining and complaining about the other side being negative. The difference is that no one asked you to come to this blog whereas a person wishing to be an informed voter will almost always visit that one. The difference is we aren't running for senate. The difference is we aren't accusing the side of mudslinging as if we aren't doing it ourself. The difference is we aren't accusing anyone of "character assassination"
Finally, the difference is we have more principle and dignity. When the article came out about Webb and women people wanted an explanation and didn't deny that it happened or accused the women of lying. Our candidate acknowledged his ridiculous behavior and apologized. Yours has yet to acknowledge something we caught him on video tape doing a month ago.
Like I said Insider, if you all would just aknowledge that Allen is a lying racist redneck but you are voting for him because you value his conservative record over his personal behavior people may just have more respect for you. The sooner you all stop assuming everyone is dumb enough to believe that all of these people stepping forward ON THEIR OWN are lying and that "macaca" was just made up on the spot the better.

Plunge... I agree fully. That's why I have been donating money (despite being a broke college student BTW). It appears that Webb may have gotten close to his goal of raising 1 million by today which is a good sign. Once he can afford to put tons of ads out there about himself I think that connection will eventually form.
Posted by: UVA08 | September 30, 2006 at 08:51 AM
Waterboard Hastert, we need the truth about the Foley cover up.
Posted by: | September 30, 2006 at 08:52 AM
This might be my favorite whine ever:
"Allen strategist Christopher J. LaCivita dismissed the poll and blasted MSNBC.
'Their antics and so-called journalism is an absolute and utter disgrace. They spent the last seven days trashing George Allen and conveniently hire their own pollster to check out their handiwork,' LaCivita said."

Is it time to put Sen Allen under a polygraph? We now have 8 independent well educated people coming forward.

My son has pet turtles and he is now terrified of black people. Thanks Sen Allen.
My neighbors kids are terrified of going to the mailbox, thanks Sen Allen.

The sad thing is, all those turtle fearing, barely got out of high school, hope to make $35K/year one of these days folk who are leaning for Allen would be much better off with Webb.

Anon-9:47, you are 100% correct. If elected, Webb will absolutely do what his Democrat Senate bosses tell him to do, and vote for more welfare entitlements, more income redistribution, more government control over more aspects of our lives.
Excellent point.
Posted by: I.Publius | September 30, 2006 at 10:56 AM
as opposed to the gop who take away states rights consistently (siding with industry against calif emissions laws, etc), who give corporate welfre, who limit our freedoms, who practice affirmative action via patronage and legacy programs... come on now.

The TSA (The Turtle Society of America)has issued a stern warning agaist selling pet turtles to black people.
Thanks Sen Allen.

Posted by: | September 30, 2006 at 11:04 AM
oh and don't get me started on the gop and fiscal responsibility!
and as foley shows: the gop will lie and cast aspertions to any accusations. foley eventually had to resign as the evidence mounted. allen is lying thru his teeth and he knows it.
btw great to see tradesports predicting dem house win. thanks to an allen rout, next the senate?

Fill up your gas tanks now. Gas prices fell 20% last Sept/Oct/Nov only to skyrocket to new highs over the summer.
We are only down 17% from the highs, next summer we could be close to $4 for unleaded gas.
Sen Allen is big oils best friend, ask him why he supports tarrifs on Ethenol imports.

G***** Allen for Senate !
Posted by: | September 30, 2006 at 11:35 AM
Republicans libel people? Anyone remember stuff like this?
Republicans were aghast at Clinton's behavior, with many saying it showed he had lied and abused his power.
"It's vile," said Rep. Mark Foley, R-West Palm Beach. "It's more sad than anything else, to see someone with such potential throw it all down the drain because of a sexual addiction."
http://www.sptimes.com/Worldandnation/91298/Congress_sees_through.html
All the times I heard in the last 8 years about Clinton's blowjob. Now we know it was a smokescreen for the GOP's own corruption.

The hypocrisy of this pervert is so over-the-top its like a heavy-handed skit on SNL.
But what really troubles me, as a parent, are the actions of the Republican leadership. They f***ing KNEW about this problem and they did NOTHING? Asumed it was "taken care of?" Took him at his word when he said he would stop? A man with this kind of compulsion CANNOT stop.
Well, they put loyalty to party and lust for power over their country, why not over the well-being of children they actually knew?
Disgusting.

"Having worked on the French Slaughter congressional campaign out of an office located in the basement of George Allen's law office in Charlottesville, I find your recollections, as well as those of Larry Sabato and Allen's former teammate fully consonant with my experiences as a grass roots volunteer in 1984," says Scott Pickus.

Posted by: | September 30, 2006 at 02:02 PM
Which came first George Allen lying about his common use of the n-word, or the people willing to testify about it?
Has calling a liar, a liar become a "dirty trick"? I'd really like to know.
Posted by: I.Ignotus | September 30, 2006 at 02:38 PM
Which came first, George Allen serving as Delegate, Congressman, Governor, Senator (with nary a word about his alleged racial slurs)... or desperate Democrats digging up liberal activists to make stuff up six weeks before an election?
Hiding behind the skirt of a 70-something, self-described "Democrat activist" from Maryland to smear your opponent when you're down in the polls and quickly running out of money... *that's* a dirty trick, numbnuts.
Nice name, by the way -- you make that one up yourself? No bonus for originality, I'm sorry to say. But I'm flattered to have you join the legions who are already in my fan club. Welcome aboard!
Posted by: I.Publius | September 30, 2006 at 03:27 PM
I.Publius, I'm interested: are you willing to say, flat out, that all of the accusers, as well as the people who corroborated their stories, are lying, and that Allen is telling the truth?
It's strange that you get so focused on throwing around words like smear and dirty trick and Democrat (as if that alone is such a smear that it proves that someone would lie and get their family members and friends to lie for them) that you never get around to discussing whether or not the claims are true or not.
Posted by: plunge | September 30, 2006 at 04:46 PM
I'd just like to have you on record, if you don't mind, answering the direct question.
Posted by: plunge | September 30, 2006 at 04:47 PM
Is the Allen campaign scared? You bet! I have visited that site several times in the past - today, it has completely changed!
It's very... harsh feeling, looking and sounding (and not in the way I think they're after).
On the other hand - maybe it is perfect. It Fits the candidate to a T.
