2,443 Precincts have just opened up! Game is on.
Election Day
Post the time you vote, location of voting, and the number of voters at your precinct here
UPDATE: Chad has up a 30 second spot that he says sums up Jim Webb here.
I've got a 60 second one that sums up George Allen here.
UPDATE 7:20 a.m.: I just drove around some various polling places in central Fairfax. The parking lot is overflowing at Fairview precinct, and Burke Centre Precinct, and turnout is heavy at Bonnie Brae, Terra Centre and Laurel precincts. Medium turnout at Robinson and Sideburn precincts. Saw Chap Petersen at Robinson precinct, he showed up to greet voters, and was disturbed to find no Democrats there to work the polls. Pathetic FCDC!!!
UPDATE 7:35 a.m.: I have reports from two different precincts that the Fairfax Democratic Sample Ballot is confusing voters. On the top lines they have Webb, Hurst and No on Amendment #1. Below they have "Yes" on Amendments 2 and 3 and on both bonds. I'm hearing voters remarking that they are upset with the committee for supporting the marriage amendment because they are seeing all the "Yes's" below and not seeing the "No" on top. I'll be monitoring this closely.
Gooooooooooooooooood morning!~~~~~~
Thadd is opening up across the street-I "slept in" and I am just getting in the shower. Then it's flush time at 9am.
Good luck all!
Bloggers-those of us working won't be able to do the important work of keeping up with any fraud stories or election day problems online, so do it for us. Thanks. :)
On to victory...

an early diarist on dkos said it took him three tries to get his vote to register for Webb - kept registering for Green candidate and back button did not work.
I'm not as worried about machines in NoVa, because we have some experience with them, and because we control the mechanism so cheating is less possible. What about concern elsewhere in state, say in Hampton Roads, SW etc?
Posted by: teacherken | November 07, 2006 at 06:32 AM
Hey-
since when are sample ballots illegal?
Thadd just called-some guy with an Allen sticker is screaming at him, telling him to stop handing them out or go to jail.
Um, the party GAVE them to him...
Posted by: phriendlyjaime | November 07, 2006 at 06:39 AM
phriendlyjaime,
that is pure intimidation tactics.
Sample ballots are not only perfectly legal, but VOTERS ARE ALLOWED TO TAKE THEM INTO THE POLLS WITH THEM.
Please call local Dem committee office if you hear of this further.

UPDATE:
Crazy man was told to can it by the election workers.
Thadd: 1
Allen: 0
Posted by: phriendlyjaime | November 07, 2006 at 06:45 AM
Jaime- They are not illegal at all...just have to be 40 feet back from the polling place.
Posted by: Kevin | November 07, 2006 at 06:46 AM
update:
sample ballots have to be a colour other then white, per state board of elections, other than that, it should be OK.
Posted by: pitin | November 07, 2006 at 06:46 AM
they are yellow.

Heading to the polls with my daughter in 5 mins. Be careful out there folks, the Allen supporters- the few, the shamed -will be testy today and we should treat them like kids caught with their hands in cookie jars. Remember, especially with men, that anger is usually an expression of fear.
Cheers to all- poll report in a bit.
Posted by: Doug | November 07, 2006 at 06:57 AM
Evereyone remember the election laws-
you can vote if you don't have proper id, just have to sign the affadavit stating that yes, you ARE who you say you are, and in the state of virginia, you do NOT have to get out of line.
TRIPLE CHECK THOSE SCREENS!!!!
Posted by: phriendlyjaime | November 07, 2006 at 06:59 AM
I voted at 630 and there were a total of about 120 people who had voted by that point in time. Only took about ten minutes with checking in and the lines.
Posted by: BDM | November 07, 2006 at 07:15 AM

I am on my way to vote now.
While signing this morning, I saw Allen signs PAST the no electioneering signs!

Blacksburg, VA Beeks polling place (don't know the precint that is!)
poll counts for two lines were 55 and 67 = 122 at 7:05. There were 16 more people who came in when I was in line, then a number (10?) when I was done and left. I'd put the total at 7:15 at 148.
Blacksburg is overwhelmingly Democratic. It just started raining down here, so predictions were off. No issue with the electronic machines- the check screen was easy to read and Webb's last name was not cut off.
Posted by: Doug | November 07, 2006 at 07:22 AM
City of Fairfax. Polling Precinct 3. It was Daniel Run Elementary School, so I think I got the number right.
Posted by: BDM | November 07, 2006 at 07:27 AM
Was up at 4:30am to head out to the rural precincts of Montgomery County to put up signs for Webb/Boucher and especially Dennis Nagel.
Once the polls open, there seemed to be strong turnout, especially for where I was. The Montgomery County Democrats and the Young Democrats at Virginia Tech have done a great job in assuring a Democrat at just about every polling place, every hour they are open. Also, Webb signs have to outnumber Allen signs by about 10-1.
Posted by: Southern Democrat | November 07, 2006 at 07:31 AM
At 6:05 this morning my polling place (11th CD, Lake Ridge) had a line that went all the way around a gymnasium, definitely over 100 there and coming in consistently when I left at 6:35. I'd never voted this early before, but the crowd looked larger to me than I've ever seen it.
Posted by: JMU Duke | November 07, 2006 at 07:42 AM
Enterprise Precinct - PWC:
Voted at 7:15. Well over 200 voters with lines still long but moving. Huge turnout.

Blacksburg Library polling place was 83 X 2 lines by 7 AM.
Posted by: Doug | November 07, 2006 at 08:12 AM
Huge turnout in my precinct (Madison) in Caroline County. For the first time since I started voting in 1990, I had to wait in line more than 15 min.
Posted by: Jay Hughes | November 07, 2006 at 08:13 AM
8:15 Deer Park was 378
Posted by: | November 07, 2006 at 08:19 AM
None of these polling reports mean anything unless you can give previous counts at the exact same time in previous elections for comparison.
Posted by: plunge | November 07, 2006 at 08:23 AM
Turn Out seems huge around the state, Ben you getting this feeling too?
Good for Webb?
Posted by: pitin | November 07, 2006 at 08:23 AM
I tried to go vote this morning and the only five democrats in our county we're laying across the road trying to stop all the cars with Allen stickers on their way to the polls.....
We just went ahead and ran over them....
Posted by: republitarian | November 07, 2006 at 08:23 AM
Lake Ridge Middle (eastern PWC) @ 7:30. 30 - 40 people in line at any given time. Pretty brisk coming/going. People reading marriage amendment for first time on the machine was slowing voting down according to poll workers. Poll workers were trying to get voters to read amendments while in line.
Posted by: anon | November 07, 2006 at 08:26 AM
I'd love to see an unprecedented swell in NOVA and see Question #1 go down in flames. I will say, out way more than 100 people I saw at my polling place this morning, in my mixed-demo neighborhood, 2 were anything other than white. I'm assuming that'll pick up.
Posted by: JMU Duke | November 07, 2006 at 08:27 AM
Pitin, So far, so good.
Posted by: Not Larry Sabato | November 07, 2006 at 08:31 AM
There was no one in line when I cast my absentee ballot.
Posted by: Not Ben | November 07, 2006 at 08:33 AM
800am, Crestview elementary-15 people in line, 5 or 6 more at the machines, much lighter turnout than 2 years ago. Touch screen voting machines. seemed to be a steady flow of traffic coming in to vote as i left, and that would be a slower time, now that in think of it i voted earlier in the general so perhaps that is why it was busier. Two Webb guys handing out flyiers and sample ballots at the entrance. I work in Innsbrook, and the college republicans were on the intersection of cox and broad waving signs and hollering.

We are handing out little white Vote NO ballots that are separate from the Democratic sample ballot, so maybe because of that we haven't heard anyone complain about the FCDC usupporting it.
But, if we didn't have the separate flyer I wonder if peeps would say something.
I gave the opening line a lecture about protecting the 400 year old Bill of Rights from restricting people's rights instead of protecting and enhancing them, and several people in line began applauding!
That made me feel damn good.
A little later another lady when I asked her to consider a NO on #1, looked at me and shouted at me, "CONSIDER!! You're damn right that's a no. That amendment will be a disaster for domestic violence protections."
Things look good.

And yes, the Fairfax sample ballot is quite poorly designed. This is the result from a half-hearted effort from FCDC. Another topic...another day, but new leadership is required.

Annandale precincts are very slow.
Posted by: | November 07, 2006 at 08:43 AM
Don't have the count yet for Westgate, but George Allen voted at approximately 7 a.m.
Yes, there was lots of press. He had his football. He threw the football. The Republicans tried to block us, but we stood our ground!
Nice moment--Our precinct co-captain handed George a Democratic Sample Ballot. He took it! Hope THAT makes the papers.
Okay, back to the polls!
Posted by: LAS | November 07, 2006 at 08:43 AM
At The First Baptist Church in Richmond, I believe it's 204, the democrats had to stop handing out sample ballots because the ones they printed were in violation of code for being printed on yellow paper.

Posted by: Not Doug in Mount Vernon | November 07, 2006 at 08:46 AM
a "white sample ballot" is illegal only if it looks like a ballot. a flyer is legal.

I voted at Lyon's Park Community Center(Arlington) this morning at 6:30 and was #47. There was also another line going on and both were growing exponentially. This is a big Dem precinct...and turnout looked good - Pretty exciting.

People standing outside never approached anyone, or handed out lit in the short time I was there. They were all well-dressed, though.
About 320 total (compare that to just about 70 in this year's PRIMARY at the same time).
That's gotta be real slow for a general election.
Posted by: Not Guy Incognito | November 07, 2006 at 09:03 AM
I voted at Dumbarton Elem. in Henrico county. There were about 12-15 people ahead of me in line. I was 119 for my half of the alphabet. As I was leaving the line had grown to appx. 20 people. This was a better turnout than the election for Govenor.
There were no Webb signs posted. Allen and Cantor each had 2 signs.
Also, neither party had anyone there handing out info.

Mantua (Kena Temple) has a strong turn-out with 250 voting as of 8:00 am. Lines are short and moving well.
Posted by: | November 07, 2006 at 09:08 AM
As of 7:50 turn out was very heavy at my Dunlora Precinct in Albemarle County I think well over 300 voters had voted. Some facts about this precinct: Kerry won 53% of the vote here and Kaine won 65%.

Blacksburg Beeks report at 9 am is 208 for one line, 228 for second. So 436 exactly at 9 am. That is slightly heavier than 2005 by my count.

Voted about 8:45 am at Alumni Hall in Charlottesville. NO ONE there, but it was early. The situation where Webb's name is cut off is actually a bit confusing. They have these very long explanations near the voting machines, in small print that would take a few minutes to read and understand. Plus it's at the top of the booth - I'm 6 feet tall and it was above my eye level, and there's no way I would've even noticed it had I not looked for it (because I knew they were going to put those sheets up). I knew about the issue with his name, but it still looked really odd on the final screen.

Fry's Spring precinct in Charlottesville at 8:45am - turnout was VERY high (the parking lot was full, and there was a line of 25-30 votes the whole time I was there). A significant Webb presence was outside, with a token Allen presence.
Vote no on 1 and 3!

Voted this morning in Arlington (Yorktown High School). Enormous turnout - everybody said that they had never seen so many people, even in a presidential election year. I voted around 8:00 a.m. and was number 156 in the L-Z line. So figure 300-350 total votes by that point.

166 x 2 lines at Mary Mumford in near west end Richmond at 9am. No literature from either Allen or Webb. I didn't see any poll watchers either.
Also, on the way there--there was a huge line of Allen signs (4 blocks long) on telephone poles in the median. By the time I voted and walked the dog, all had been ripped down, some were still in the street.
I'm a dem and voted for Webb. Not how I'd like to win. Let's keep it clean, folks.

T-J Community Center 6:15 AM, 35 people in line waiting to vote. Line stayed 35-40 people deep through 7:15 AM.
Lyon Park Community Center- Voter # 127 in the K-Z line. A-J had three times as many people standing in it while I was waiting in the K-Z line! Great turn out from the Dems!!!

"They also made me show photo ID. Unsure what the law says about that. I didn't protest this, but I wonder what would've happened if I had protested."
You don't have to show an ID unless it's your first time voting in a federal election. If you don't show an ID, you have to sign a statement of affirmation and then you can vote just as you normally would. This is not the same as provisional ballots.

That's a 35% + jump in turnout over last year. All I have to say, is WOW.
