Gooooooooooooooooood morning!~~~~~~

Thadd is opening up across the street-I "slept in" and I am just getting in the shower. Then it's flush time at 9am.

Good luck all!

Bloggers-those of us working won't be able to do the important work of keeping up with any fraud stories or election day problems online, so do it for us. Thanks. :)

On to victory...

pitin

I will be live blogging the 11th District E-Day on RK (in between putting out fires and answering the main campaign phone number)

check it out.

teacherken

an early diarist on dkos said it took him three tries to get his vote to register for Webb - kept registering for Green candidate and back button did not work.

I'm not as worried about machines in NoVa, because we have some experience with them, and because we control the mechanism so cheating is less possible. What about concern elsewhere in state, say in Hampton Roads, SW etc?

phriendlyjaime

Hey-

since when are sample ballots illegal?

Thadd just called-some guy with an Allen sticker is screaming at him, telling him to stop handing them out or go to jail.

Um, the party GAVE them to him...

pitin

phriendlyjaime,

that is pure intimidation tactics.

Sample ballots are not only perfectly legal, but VOTERS ARE ALLOWED TO TAKE THEM INTO THE POLLS WITH THEM.

Please call local Dem committee office if you hear of this further.

phriendlyjaime

UPDATE:

Crazy man was told to can it by the election workers.

Thadd: 1
Allen: 0

Kevin

Jaime- They are not illegal at all...just have to be 40 feet back from the polling place.

pitin

update:

sample ballots have to be a colour other then white, per state board of elections, other than that, it should be OK.

phriendlyjaime

they are yellow.

Doug

Heading to the polls with my daughter in 5 mins. Be careful out there folks, the Allen supporters- the few, the shamed -will be testy today and we should treat them like kids caught with their hands in cookie jars. Remember, especially with men, that anger is usually an expression of fear.

Cheers to all- poll report in a bit.

phriendlyjaime

Evereyone remember the election laws-

you can vote if you don't have proper id, just have to sign the affadavit stating that yes, you ARE who you say you are, and in the state of virginia, you do NOT have to get out of line.

TRIPLE CHECK THOSE SCREENS!!!!

BDM

I voted at 630 and there were a total of about 120 people who had voted by that point in time. Only took about ten minutes with checking in and the lines.

pitin

BDM, what precinct (Congressional District) you in?

Not Larry Sabato

BDM, where were you?

Heart of Blue

I am on my way to vote now.
While signing this morning, I saw Allen signs PAST the no electioneering signs!

Doug

Blacksburg, VA Beeks polling place (don't know the precint that is!)

poll counts for two lines were 55 and 67 = 122 at 7:05. There were 16 more people who came in when I was in line, then a number (10?) when I was done and left. I'd put the total at 7:15 at 148.

Blacksburg is overwhelmingly Democratic. It just started raining down here, so predictions were off. No issue with the electronic machines- the check screen was easy to read and Webb's last name was not cut off.

BDM

City of Fairfax. Polling Precinct 3. It was Daniel Run Elementary School, so I think I got the number right.

Southern Democrat

Was up at 4:30am to head out to the rural precincts of Montgomery County to put up signs for Webb/Boucher and especially Dennis Nagel.

Once the polls open, there seemed to be strong turnout, especially for where I was. The Montgomery County Democrats and the Young Democrats at Virginia Tech have done a great job in assuring a Democrat at just about every polling place, every hour they are open. Also, Webb signs have to outnumber Allen signs by about 10-1.

JMU Duke

At 6:05 this morning my polling place (11th CD, Lake Ridge) had a line that went all the way around a gymnasium, definitely over 100 there and coming in consistently when I left at 6:35. I'd never voted this early before, but the crowd looked larger to me than I've ever seen it.

Mitch Cumstein

Enterprise Precinct - PWC:

Voted at 7:15. Well over 200 voters with lines still long but moving. Huge turnout.

278 at Virginia Run in Fairfax County.

400- Powhattan B precinct- James City County- 8 am

Not Larry Sabato

Wow, I am hearing a voter was 187 at Fairview in her P-Z line- there are three books there so Fairview is OVER 500!

Doug

Blacksburg Library polling place was 83 X 2 lines by 7 AM.

Jay Hughes

Huge turnout in my precinct (Madison) in Caroline County. For the first time since I started voting in 1990, I had to wait in line more than 15 min.

8:15 Deer Park was 378

plunge

None of these polling reports mean anything unless you can give previous counts at the exact same time in previous elections for comparison.

pitin

Turn Out seems huge around the state, Ben you getting this feeling too?

Good for Webb?

republitarian

I tried to go vote this morning and the only five democrats in our county we're laying across the road trying to stop all the cars with Allen stickers on their way to the polls.....

We just went ahead and ran over them....

anon

Lake Ridge Middle (eastern PWC) @ 7:30. 30 - 40 people in line at any given time. Pretty brisk coming/going. People reading marriage amendment for first time on the machine was slowing voting down according to poll workers. Poll workers were trying to get voters to read amendments while in line.

JMU Duke

I'd love to see an unprecedented swell in NOVA and see Question #1 go down in flames. I will say, out way more than 100 people I saw at my polling place this morning, in my mixed-demo neighborhood, 2 were anything other than white. I'm assuming that'll pick up.

Not Larry Sabato

Pitin, So far, so good.

Not Ben

There was no one in line when I cast my absentee ballot.

HenricoEd

800am, Crestview elementary-15 people in line, 5 or 6 more at the machines, much lighter turnout than 2 years ago. Touch screen voting machines. seemed to be a steady flow of traffic coming in to vote as i left, and that would be a slower time, now that in think of it i voted earlier in the general so perhaps that is why it was busier. Two Webb guys handing out flyiers and sample ballots at the entrance. I work in Innsbrook, and the college republicans were on the intersection of cox and broad waving signs and hollering.

Doug in Mount Vernon

8:15 at Woodlawn

425 voters

This is better than last year.

Not Huey Long

#131 at 7:45 (P-Z aisle ) in Robinson precinct.

I found something in my mail box. I'm assuming it was a late Allen "lit. drop".

Doug in Mount Vernon

We are handing out little white Vote NO ballots that are separate from the Democratic sample ballot, so maybe because of that we haven't heard anyone complain about the FCDC usupporting it.

But, if we didn't have the separate flyer I wonder if peeps would say something.

I gave the opening line a lecture about protecting the 400 year old Bill of Rights from restricting people's rights instead of protecting and enhancing them, and several people in line began applauding!

That made me feel damn good.

A little later another lady when I asked her to consider a NO on #1, looked at me and shouted at me, "CONSIDER!! You're damn right that's a no. That amendment will be a disaster for domestic violence protections."

Things look good.

#116 at 7:45 (A-J aisle) at the Armory in Staunton

Doug in Mount Vernon

Back to the polls....

Not Huey Long

And yes, the Fairfax sample ballot is quite poorly designed. This is the result from a half-hearted effort from FCDC. Another topic...another day, but new leadership is required.

Annandale precincts are very slow.

LAS

Don't have the count yet for Westgate, but George Allen voted at approximately 7 a.m.

Yes, there was lots of press. He had his football. He threw the football. The Republicans tried to block us, but we stood our ground!

Nice moment--Our precinct co-captain handed George a Democratic Sample Ballot. He took it! Hope THAT makes the papers.

Okay, back to the polls!

William Jackson

At The First Baptist Church in Richmond, I believe it's 204, the democrats had to stop handing out sample ballots because the ones they printed were in violation of code for being printed on yellow paper.

Doug

The 8:43 anonymous things are horrible post! Ha! I see this:

anon- its slow

hahahahhaa

Not Doug in Mount Vernon

Any sample ballot that is white is a violation of Virginia law. Thanks for letting us know of your illegal activity. I'll forward this to the appropriate authorities.

Anon

a "white sample ballot" is illegal only if it looks like a ballot. a flyer is legal.

Heart of Blue

8:15 am - 300 western henrico co, richmond. about 50 waiting. Huge turnout for this precint.

"white sample ballot." ???
heh heh.

Gringos for Webb !!!

Go Webb !!!

Doug

Not Doug- you ding dong, its the amendment flyer, not a sample ballot.

nutshell king

I voted at Lyon's Park Community Center(Arlington) this morning at 6:30 and was #47. There was also another line going on and both were growing exponentially. This is a big Dem precinct...and turnout looked good - Pretty exciting.

alexva resident

Heavy turnout in Alexandria as of 8am. No doubt favors Webb.

Not Larry Sabato

I'm hearing great news for Sully. Massive turnout everywhere.

Chuck in VA

Chesterfield County, North Chester Precinct, 7:45, #300.

GO JIM GO !

Not Guy Incognito

Richmond101-

8:20AM

People standing outside never approached anyone, or handed out lit in the short time I was there. They were all well-dressed, though.

About 320 total (compare that to just about 70 in this year's PRIMARY at the same time).

That's gotta be real slow for a general election.

BudManCubFan

I voted at Dumbarton Elem. in Henrico county. There were about 12-15 people ahead of me in line. I was 119 for my half of the alphabet. As I was leaving the line had grown to appx. 20 people. This was a better turnout than the election for Govenor.

There were no Webb signs posted. Allen and Cantor each had 2 signs.
Also, neither party had anyone there handing out info.

Mantua (Kena Temple) has a strong turn-out with 250 voting as of 8:00 am. Lines are short and moving well.

UVA08

As of 7:50 turn out was very heavy at my Dunlora Precinct in Albemarle County I think well over 300 voters had voted. Some facts about this precinct: Kerry won 53% of the vote here and Kaine won 65%.

Lake Braddock 410- 10 mins ago

Tom

At 7:30am at Cora Kelly on West Reed Avenue in Alexandria, at least 50 people in line. Very busy, and has continued througout the morning.

Doug

Blacksburg Beeks report at 9 am is 208 for one line, 228 for second. So 436 exactly at 9 am. That is slightly heavier than 2005 by my count.

Not Larry Sabato

Greg Bouchillon says over 400 at Centre Ridge right now.

Confused 5th District Liberal

Voted about 8:45 am at Alumni Hall in Charlottesville. NO ONE there, but it was early. The situation where Webb's name is cut off is actually a bit confusing. They have these very long explanations near the voting machines, in small print that would take a few minutes to read and understand. Plus it's at the top of the booth - I'm 6 feet tall and it was above my eye level, and there's no way I would've even noticed it had I not looked for it (because I knew they were going to put those sheets up). I knew about the issue with his name, but it still looked really odd on the final screen.

Webb, Weed, No, No, Yes!

thegools

Fauquier County: Lutheran Church (Scott Precinct?)

7:42 am = 97 ballots cast

eirishis

Fry's Spring precinct in Charlottesville at 8:45am - turnout was VERY high (the parking lot was full, and there was a line of 25-30 votes the whole time I was there). A significant Webb presence was outside, with a token Allen presence.

Vote no on 1 and 3!

Breaking for Webb? Don't bank on it, yet. GOTV!

matt

Fairlington North (Arlington County) I was 188 in the A-K list. Huge lines.

Go Webb!

Matt

I should add that was at about 8:20AM

MasonLee

Voted this morning in Arlington (Yorktown High School). Enormous turnout - everybody said that they had never seen so many people, even in a presidential election year. I voted around 8:00 a.m. and was number 156 in the L-Z line. So figure 300-350 total votes by that point.

Voter #487 at Charlottesville (Venable) at 9:30am...already almost halfway to Gov turnout

Go Cville! Webb is kickin' elephant!!!

Drove by Oakton High (Blake - 11th) at around 8am. No lines outside but a large number of cars. Will vote this afternoon to check turn out.

Henrico Pinchbeck Precinct(411):

9:10 AM 257 voters

For reference: 78 total ballots in Dem Primary, 2086 in '04 Presidential election

Voters are out in droves all over the Republican west-end of Richmond.

Confused 5th District Liberal

They also made me show photo ID. Unsure what the law says about that. I didn't protest this, but I wonder what would've happened if I had protested.

Carrington

166 x 2 lines at Mary Mumford in near west end Richmond at 9am. No literature from either Allen or Webb. I didn't see any poll watchers either.

Also, on the way there--there was a huge line of Allen signs (4 blocks long) on telephone poles in the median. By the time I voted and walked the dog, all had been ripped down, some were still in the street.

I'm a dem and voted for Webb. Not how I'd like to win. Let's keep it clean, folks.

Smaha

T-J Community Center 6:15 AM, 35 people in line waiting to vote. Line stayed 35-40 people deep through 7:15 AM.

Lyon Park Community Center- Voter # 127 in the K-Z line. A-J had three times as many people standing in it while I was waiting in the K-Z line! Great turn out from the Dems!!!

Kevin

"They also made me show photo ID. Unsure what the law says about that. I didn't protest this, but I wonder what would've happened if I had protested."

You don't have to show an ID unless it's your first time voting in a federal election. If you don't show an ID, you have to sign a statement of affirmation and then you can vote just as you normally would. This is not the same as provisional ballots.

Doug

Going to insert my obligatory prediction:

Webb 55
Allen 45

JMU Duke

Really putting yourself out there...If you nail it someone at CNN should offer you a job.

Doug

Thanks JMU but I'd rather gouge my eyes out with wooden spoons.

JMU Duke

Wooden...that's the real deal. Doug, you will be happy to know that I voted in the top line today, and I think my vote choice would please you.

Doug

I'm standing at attention saluting you JMU!

Hey- you guys are ranked #4! I work with an alum who's very excited about playoff time.

venable precinct #487 at 930

JMU Duke

I've been travelling to every game. Already scouting hotel rooms in Chattanooga for the Championship game (knock on wood of course).

LOVE this NoVa turnout.

not gretchen bulova

JMU Duke - Did you go to the Richmond game? I love JMU games, the tailgating is the best!

I missed out on Chattanooga in 04, but I won't miss it this year!

I voted around 9:40 at Wythe Precinct in Hampton and was #387

anon

McCoart Building (PWC gov't complex). I am hearing record turnout and very long lines. Can personally attest to an abosolutely packed parking lot.

JMU Duke

Yup, I was there, the JMU crowd there rivaled the U of R numbers, on their own homecoming. If we get a home playoff game we'll throw a tailgate for the ages NGB, you'll have to stop by.

not gretchen bulova

If you have beer, I'll be there!

truthteller

419 in Dawson's Terrace, Arlington as of about an hour to 90 minutes ago. Steady traffic thereafter... still 15-20 minute wait to vote.

10th C.D., Floris Precinct 9:10 a.m. #322 in the M-Z line. No Wolf signs, lots of Feder and Webb signs. Two Allen signs. One GOP worker, three Dems handing out sample ballots.

Ben

10 th C.D Kinross Precinct. 8:00am ~ 25-40 voters that's my 95% ci 5 party workers at leat 3 dems

Not Huey Long

I've got three updates:

#165, 8:45, East Falls Church
#319, 10:30, Poplar Tree
#463, 10:15, Ward 4 Falls Church.

I hear the frustration about the voting machines in Falls Church is VERY HIGH and the poll workers are not being proactive about the hypenated name issue.

Doug in Mount Vernon

More GREAT news from 70% Democratic Woodlawn precinct!!

In 2005, turnout at noon was 602.

In 2006, turnout at noon is 824!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a 35% + jump in turnout over last year. All I have to say, is WOW.

WE ARE KICKING ASS!!!

LOTS of African American voters. LOTS.

Some of the comments from people about why they're out to vote are HILARIOUS.

2-2 1/2 hour wait at Bull Run Precinct in PWC at 1:00
