I'm hearing rumors that a number of people have approached Mason District School Board Member Kaye Kory about a primary challenge to Bob Hull. Kaye is the #1 vote getter in the area. Apparently a lot of the PTA types in his district are still very upset about his bill to ban youth sports on Sundays.
Kaye is rumored to be seriously considering this challenge. Her School Board District represents about 90% of the Delegate district...
Developing...
Kaye would be an outstanding candidate and would mop up the district with Bob. He's lost touch with everybody, avoids the FCDC, and is an overall jerk.
He is a loser with no allies. She's well liked.
He wrote a bill to help an out-of-district friend and hurt the zillions of kids playing sports. She helps everybody.
Run, Kaye, Run!

In many ways, Kaye could be an attractive candidate, but she does have some liabilities to contend with.
Many Democrats will be upset to see a challenge to someone who holds a solid Democratic seat.
Some folks in Mason District view Kaye Kory with suspicion and question her Democratic credentials due to her perceived close and longtime ties with Tom Davis and Davis supporters.
Kaye hasn't been tested under fire and, while some consider Bob Hull out of touch, he can be a fierce campaigner and call in chits he has earned over his years in office.
It could be an interesting primary.

I am not sure how many Democrats will vote in a Primary on the "no sports on Sunday" bill, especially when it did not pass.
Unless she is wealthy, I would think fundraising would be a problem.
I also wonder how many Democrats feel Hull deserves a challenge. I am unaware of it happening in the past, but it would be interesting to see if the sports crowd could deliver a primary.

Kaye Kory has a solid base of voters who support her for school board. But she will probably see much of that base evaporate if she challenges Bob Hull in a Democratic primary.
Many of Kory's Democratic supporters in her bids for school board will vote against her and support incumbent Hull for the delegate seat.
Why risk the chance that a less-experienced candidate could lose the seat to a Republican.
The GOP won't try to launch a serious campaign against Hull, but they may consider an all out effort to win the seat if Kory, as a non-incumbent, was to win the Democratic nomination.
Besides, everyone in Mason knows that the seat that Kaye Kory really covets is the one now occupied quite nicely by Fairfax County Supervisor Penny Gross.

I don't agree with that. The district is over 60% Democratic in every election. It would be Safe for whoever won the primary.
Honestly, if Bob Hull can win it, any Democrat can.

While I agree that most Dem party insiders try to avoid primary challenges, and will try to stave off this one, that is precisely why the party is so full of hacks. We should never be afraid of having a little competition to find the best candidate -- and to get a little new blood in there, for Heaven's sake!

Who ever would challange Bob Hull would probabley find some surprising support from the House Democratic Caucus.
