After the mess in the VA Blogosphere this week, the first thing I thought when I heard of Saddam's execution was "I wonder if anyone will post the picture on their blog and if so, will they get banned from Waldo's blog aggregator?"
UPDATE: Lots of thoughts from Ward on everything that has been going on. Amen.
Ben:
You have to ask yourself.. First of all Mark Johnson was executed, and that was real...
His crime, being an American at the mercy of Islamofascitsts...
next Saddaam
His hanging a reality...
His Crime, murdering his own people, invading others and actually using WMD...
If you are Waldo... what a condumdrum...
Let's see... both pictures, harsh reality...
one committed by murderers, one by a murderer put on trial and then hung by the neck until dead....
I don't know... Geee
I know one thing, if GGD or Maxfield were to criticize Waldo.. they would be branded as 'uncivil, mean spirited, and a threat to the VA Blogosphere!
I tell you this though Ben, we rabble rousers will defend your right to have posted on your blog the news....

This has to be the stupidest blog-slap fight i've ever seen. how can someone reall be THAT offended that they were taken off a blog aggrigator? Most of us are grown-ups, it amazes me that people let themselves get this worked up over something so inconsequential.
As for Saddam. Rot in hell and good riddence.

Because the bloggers on the asinine end of the argument (Swacgirl, Grevious Dog, and STD) have yet to realize that everyone is laughing at how pathetic their third grade publications are.

"I wonder if anyone will post the picture on their blog and if so, will they get banned from Waldo's blog aggregator?"
I'm more interested to see who has it first, YouTube, or an American media outlet.....
Posted by: Terry | December 30, 2006 at 02:33 AM
God. Are we becoming the same as those middle eastern media outlets?
CNN and Fox both have Saddam with the noose around his neck on the front pages. Fox also seems to have a link to a video.
Irrespective of guilty or not, do we really need to splash it all across, with masked men putting another guy to death?
We dont televise the execution of the dozens of rapists and murderers here do we? This is supposed to be a civil society. If we start broadcasting this, how different are we from Iran, Pakistan or Saudi Arabia where criminals are executed in full public view?
Posted by: Matt (not the usual one) | December 30, 2006 at 05:17 AM
Well, considering the U.S. is right up there with Iran, China, and Saudi Arabia as the world's top countries when it comes to executing it's own citizens.....
Posted by: Terry | December 30, 2006 at 06:03 AM
We did show the faces of Saddam's sons and Zarqawi...why wouldn't you be surprised that they would show this.

You got that right.(Although I will stick up for Chris a little...I think his motivation was right...He just joined the wrong people)
Ben, I appreciate your link to Ward's blog. It was the first time I had ever been there. His views mirror mine on this subject and expressed them well.
Someone, in a loving way needs to tell SWACgirl to quit and come back as someone else.
Posted by: republitarian | December 30, 2006 at 09:44 AM
I think that was an excellent piece. And I think people on both sides can learn from it.
Posted by: phriendlyjaime | December 30, 2006 at 10:15 AM
I may be banned from Ward's site, bc my complimentary posts are not showing up, so I will repeat my sentiments here:
Ward-very nice piece. I think we can all learn from what you write here, and I for one thank you for it. We don't agree on everything, but we can all do better at working together on different teams, yet the same field.
Posted by: phriendlyjaime | December 30, 2006 at 10:58 AM
I was wondering the same thing about Saddam and the blogs coverage of it.
But as I suspect some will want to show it for shock value. Meanwhile most people probably get it. The graphic depiction will only serve to disturb people and be a depressing reminder of violence and death. "Bring 'em on" right Bushie?
Posted by: zen | December 30, 2006 at 01:55 PM
Whatever, I give up. I have left 3 or 4 really nice, productive and complimentary comments on Ward's site; he refuses to post them. I even emailed him for clarification on the matter, and rec'd NO explanation. Seems like his entire entry is bogus since he refuses to post the words of those he dislikes.
Posted by: phriendlyjaime | December 30, 2006 at 03:50 PM
Can't imagine why, Jaime. Bwahahahahahaha!
Posted by: | December 30, 2006 at 05:08 PM
Fixed, Ward is a stand up guy. Carry on, all. :)
Posted by: phriendlyjaime | December 30, 2006 at 07:59 PM
Jaime,
I've posted on my blog and sent you an email as well. You're most definitely NOT blocked from my site.
The way the moderation is set up, I have to approve your first post. Anything after that should show up immediately. I haven't as of yet figured out any other way to block all the spam.
Sorry for the delay, I was traveling all day.
FWIW, while I DO reserve the right to moderate posts, for the most part I'll only pull stuff because of profanity.

Great post? thats why I have a t-shirt that says "What would Ward do?"
I'd love to see Ward, Waldo, and Teacher ken in a death match.
If only more people would listen to him, we'd all be winners. While I do sincerely agree with the final paragraphs, I am not sure why i had to read the first half about what a great guys he is.
Posted by: Name Not Given | December 30, 2006 at 08:48 PM
Glad Jaime and Ward got that resolved. I admit that while I was operating my blog, the techie stuff sometimes - well often - flumoxed me too.
Don't always assume somebody is blocking you deliberately.
I used to have my comments set to moderation. Then when I was traveling, I came home to 10 or 15 comments that needed to be approved. They were pretty dated, as the shelf life of blog posts and comments is shorter than that of fresh fish outside of a refrigerator.
After that, I just shut the moderation and decided to take my chances on being spammed, which I hated.
But Blogger put up their letter verification, which means you have to type in a bunch of letters before your entry would post. It's a pain in the neck to do it, but it seems to be fairly effective at eliminating the robo-spam.

This who imbroglio (including the efforts to disparage GDD) strike my as inside baseball of the worst kind. As for "everyone laughing at those" defending GDD, Terry, I'm pretty sure that they could give a rat's ass about the far Left "laughting at" them, just as I would (as someone who has not attacked Waldo, though I think his decision was questionable). Of course, most people are "laughing at" your attack on the President and Rumsfeld for choosing to attend another of the ceremonies, as opposed to tonight's. Grow up.
Posted by: James Young | December 30, 2006 at 10:36 PM
Well gosh "Name Not Given" at 8:48, If I'd known I could force people like you to read my blog I would never have needed an aggregator to begin with.
But thanks for stopping by.

BTW Ben,
Should have said this earlier. Thanks for your comments and for the link.

You're absolutely right, I hate the word verif; I may go ahead and just deal with the spam, or turn on the word verif. only overnight if possible.
BTW-WTF Tech? You should have called them out on that b**lsh*t penalty a few minutes before Georgia tied it up. You should be murdering them right now, as you were.

Well, what happened? Did someone dare to post a photo of a dead tyrant in a noose?
You know what probably really has my left friends panties all in a wad?
The fact they we all stick together and fight like a group... Just like the Lefty's are so good at....
You are probably also a tad jealous, that we are not herded like the sheep bloggers/commenters of the left...
Posted by: Spank That Donkey | December 31, 2006 at 02:50 AM
Everyone with comment issues could just get Haloscan to deal with their comments...I don't have to worry about spam and it's an easy installation.

It's been a week...can you take your crucifix and drag it somewhere else?
Posted by: Kevin | December 31, 2006 at 11:07 AM
Kevin, can you tell me more about Haloscan?
Posted by: Ward Smythe | December 31, 2006 at 02:29 PM
There is another alternative to controlling spam on Wordpress blogs (including the self-hosted WP installs) and that is Akismet. It really works very well.
Posted by: Vivian J. Paige | December 31, 2006 at 03:47 PM
Sure Ward...Go to Haloscan.com and register a user name. They have an easy installation process that installs it for you. Now in some cases it takes a couple times before it "sticks".
The basic version allows for comment moderation and it allows you to track the IP address of people who comment on your site in case you get any nasty posters.
I haven't had any spam in over 1 1/2 years of having it.
