This time it is against Faisal Gill, the leading GOP candidate in the 51st Delegate seat.
I've seen some documents that make me believe that Faisal was not totally in the wrong in regards to the incident regarding him in his federal job and accusations he lied on his application at DHS to hide ties to groups linked to foreign extremists.
However in politics, perception is reality. In that regard, it doesn't really matter if the allegations are true. There is enough smoke there to derail any potential campaign, which is probably totally unfair to Faisal especially if he did nothing wrong. But that's just politics, and the reality is this is not recoverable from in a race for public office. If Gill is the nominee, Democrats will win this seat.
From BVBL: "When Faisal Gill started showing up in political circles in Prince William County, political donations from the Safa Group started showing up in the hands of Republican candidates such as Steve Chapman, Bob Fitzsimmonds, Ken Cuccinelli and Dick Black. The Safa Group, a collection of Muslim run businesses centered in Herndon and raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2002 for funneling money to terrorists, is linked with the Muslim Brotherhood, which conducts terrorist attacks in Egypt and supports Hamas and Al-Quaida. Democrats Jim Moran and Hillary Clinton have also recieved donations from the Safa Group, but have returned them.
After the federal authorities started tightening the screws on the finances of the Safa Group, the donations coming from entities such as Mar-Jac Investments, Mar-Jac Poultry, Mena Investments, Mena Estates, and a host of others started to abate, a new source of large campaign finance contributions seemed to pop up — Faisal Gill. Faisal had been giving a few donations a year in increments of a few hundred dollars until mid-2005 when Faisal suddenly weighed in with $12,000 in donations to Bill Bolling in one year. Now I like Bill Bolling as well, and if I had 12,000 extra dollars lying around that I didn’t know what to do with, I’d consider sending it off to him. But the timing and this uncharacteristic burst of political donations, which hasn’t been seen since, at least raises the question whether these were laundered Safa Group donations."
Current Outlook: Toss Up
Outlook if Gill is GOP Nominee: Likely Democratic (Pickup)
Outlook if Gill is not GOP Nominee: Slight-Lean GOP
As a conservative republican, it has made be VERY uncomfortable seeing these conservative leaders taking money from those affiliated with the SAFA group. Its really left a sour taste in my mouth.
Its safe to say that Gill has been accused by Michelle Malkin in the past of different things but I have never heard his response to the accusations.

It seems that Greg has spent a little too much time reading far Left blogs (present company excepted). One might make the case that he's adopted their tactic of smear and innuendo.

James,
Would you consider Michelle Malkin a liberal blogger? She's the one who made a big deal about Gill a few years back.

Note to self. Don't piss of Greg L.

"... Faisal Gill, the leading GOP candidate in the 51st Delegate seat."
Julie Lucas is a much stronger candidate that Gill. I'd say she's the "leading" candidate, as someone who has proven she can win.

One thing about Faisal - taking the SAFA and other questionable stuff out of it - is he'll be a formible candidate. He'll work his tail off to win. He won't sit back and wait, he'll be aggressive and hitting the streets with the best of them.
However I'd agree Julie Lucas would probably be the better nominee for this seat and would trounce any competition she may face in a general election.

There is not a finer foursome of Statesmen than Steve Chapman, Bob Fitzsimmonds, Ken Cuccinelli and Dick Black.

Julie Lucas has not announced. Moreover, she was not introduced as a candidate for the seat at Scott Lingamfelter's fundraiser tonight.

Julie Lucas is running.

Especially as long as they're frontmen for the terrorists of Al quida, right -t?

No one in PWC takes BVBL seriously. Just some rambling, incoherent drivel from an angry right-winger who hates Mexicans and feels threatened by gays. A real original.

Funny thing about Julie Lucas, in 2003, right before the election, she appeared at a rally luncheon for Democratic candidates where then Gov. Mark Warner was the featured speaker and, on election night, showed up at the victory party for John Jenkins. Just wondering how right winger BVBL and purist James Young will take to such RINO like behaviour.

I'd rather have a former Democrat who espouses the Republican platform than a Moslem.

I didn't say she wasn't running. I said she has not announced and was not introduced as a candidate.
