Hahahahaha, YAY!!!!! I am thrilled this is back!

GOPHokie

Its kinda crappy though that it looks as if Albo is the weenie.

ALBO IS A WEENIE

Ben I usually call you out with your Marsden antics, but this was a very boneheaded moment for him and he deserves a public lashing.

When you're trying to play political games, at least do a little bit of homework. That goes for Steve Shannon and Chuck Caputo too, who each had their own boneheaded moments this year.

Is it just me or does Marsden look like John Lithgow?

In case you missed it in the other post, here is Delegate Marsden's response.

Ben,

Thank you again for the opportunity to clear something up. As a matter of fact, according to the Fairfax County Public Schools the amendment I offered would have provided Fairfax County teachers with a 0.5% raise without costing Fairfax County anything. Fairfax County greatly exceeds the state match requirement, so this would have provided more than $600,000 of additional state funding. I was disappointed that Delegate Albo spoke against additional funding for Fairfax County schools and their teachers.

With so much misinformation out there, it is important to check the facts before making a claim such as this. It is unfortunate that you appear not to have checked with either Fairfax County Public schools or my office before making the claim that, “Even after they heard how much this amendment would hurt Fairfax, a majority of legislators from here voted "Yes". It's sad when partisanship is more important than what helps their constituents”. This was an inaccurate statement because the amendment would have helped the constituents of Fairfax County legislators by better rewarding their children’s educators and improving Fairfax County’s ability to attract and retain qualified teachers.

Jambon, that's awesome.

phriendlyjaime

Jambon, it isn't just you. I have thought that for a while as well.

So let me see if I've got this right. All of you who are posting here are Republicans who don't like the Democratic members of the General Assembly, is that right? So that's why you like to publically cut them down, is that right? And of course that includes NLS too, since he's the all-time cutter-downer of Democrats. Have I got that straight? Sure looks that way to me.

Keep going, folks. You're becoming a really influential Republican blog site.

Doug

Phriendly, did you give the anon poster a case of the "I don't make sense"s? I tried to follow whatever that was, but I'm too caught up in basketball.

Not Jack Herrity

Anon 6:42, do you have eyes? This site is full of Democrats. In fact, most of the Republicans fled with their tails between their legs during the Webb-Allen race. Ben's reason for hating Marsden is because they both wanted the Democratic nomination.

Nate, Fairfax County tried to have it both ways on this one. Their understanding of the budget process leaves much to be desired.

Whatever the facts in this case there is simply no excuse for Marsden's lack of preparedness on the floor. If Marsden's above response is true (and I have my doubts) then that is a sad indictment of his effectiveness as a legislator. If he had been adequately prepared he could have rebutted Albo's statements and perhaps gotten his amendment through. His lack of preparedness helped scuttle his own proposal.

No, Ben's reason for hating Marsden is because of the way he forced Cathy Belter to drop out.

My campaign came after that and was also because of that.

Not Jack Herrity, you really don't get it, do you? I know that there are people on this post who 'claim' to be Democrats. But you sound like Republicans by constantly cutting down Democrats. You're playing right into Republican hands when you do that for all the world to see. You and your other cohorts here aren't very politically savvy, are you?

Joel Rutstein

Anon @ 12:52, I'm a frustrated liberal Democrat, in Mardsen's District. I was a latecomer to Marsden's 2005 race and know nothing of the Belter issue, but I did perceive that Marsden would be infinitely better than Golden and would bring the Dems one step closer to parity, and hopefully someday a majority, in the House of Delegates. When Marsden voted for the transportation bill, I criticized him publicly. NLS highlighted my criticism and added his special brand of humor. Marsden actually called me, and while we agreed to disagree, his willingness to discuss and debate demonstrated the validity of this robust back-and-forth in the blogosphere. Additionally, by dint of both Marsden's comment in NLS's original posting of the undeniably comic video of Marsden on the floor and Nate's reposting of Marsden's comment in this thread, this type of tough debate, complete with snark, has been revalidated. If voters want to sit at home or vote for any likely worse candidate that the GOP is going to throw at Marsden because Marsden looked foolish or resembles John Lithgow (or Lurch from The Addams Family), they deserve the crap they'll get. In the end, Democrats will be better off by not parroting the Republicans including voting for their bills (I'm talking to you, Dave Marsden) and not adopting the Republicans' fascist 11th Commandment about not attacking other Republicans.

Anon

Yeah, right Joel. Let's not be like those dumb Republicans who have the good sense not to destroy their party's elected officials in public. Let's show them that Democrats are better than that. Let's show them that good party discipline is just another word for fascism. Let's show them what Democrats are famous for: eating their own.

Real smart, right?

Doug

There are two terms: DINO and RINO. If you think all parties don't have real beefs with some of their own and come after them, then you are not being honest with yourself.

I know nothing about Marsden or, really, any of the delegates who are discussed here- I have Mr. Schuler and Mr. Edwards to represent me for the state and for good or ill they never make the news. But it really is dishonest to say it is only members of the Democratic Party who do this: see McCain v. Bush 2000.

Anon

This is my last post on this subject, because some of you are too dense to get the point that I'm making.

First, this isn't about whether Republicans ever trash members of their own party or not (and the example you cited of McCain and Bush was during a campaign, which is very different). My point is that you don't help the Democratic party when you constantly trash your own representatives in public, and especially when you try to ridicule them. That's very destructive to the party and to the representative.

Second, some of you always fall lock-step in line trashing whoever NLS doesn't like, even if you don't know the person or don't have a beef with him yourself. You do it just for kicks or because you think it's cool to trash someone for no real reason at all. It's great sport, isn't it? You think it makes you look superior to the person your trashing (which is pretty dumb, because I'll bet that all, or most of you, are only 20-somethings and haven't yet been out there in the real world, taking risks of your own, and finding out what it's like). So it's real easy from your vantage point to cut others down, isn't it? You're still on the sidelines of life where you're safe.

I will also guess that all or most of you who call yourselves Democrats are not members of the party structure. If you were members, you'd know how hard it is to get, and keep, good candidates and respresentatives. We have enough enemies out there with the Republicans. We don't need any more from those who are supposed to be our 'friends' (like, "with friends like you, who needs enemies?").

I guess that's the difference between some of us 'grown ups' who understand the need for, and believe in, party disciple, versus a gaggle of unorganized, undisciplined kids playing at politics who just so happen to have a dangerous weapon in their hand - the blogosphere - and who don't realize the damage they do.

Now do you get the point?

Doug

Here's what I get:

You: "Don't trash people on your own side, you idiot."

Me: "I don't know these people and don't care, but if you think this is just a democratic party problem you are wrong."

You: "You're a child and you should respect your betters, because those of us in the power structure should be respected because we are in the power structure."

Me: "I may give money to Jim Webb and his PAC again, but its people like you who keep me out of the party and... where's my beer and basketball?"

And why do I always argue with people too small to use a regular name to post with so we at least know the personality?
