While we are waiting for the General Assembly to take action on these bills- would you all like to hear the story from when Josh Chernila almost lost the Webb campaign singlehandedly? It involves Roanoke churches, a false rumor and misallocation of staff resources, and it's a pretty great story.
I would like to hear it.

My interest has been aroused!
I love Roanoke, and would really be interested in hearing how ONE PERSON almost lost Webb the contest...

It's actually a funny story.
When the Allen campaign started going out and attacking Jim Webb over his writing, we got word from some media people that there would be book burnings in Roanoke churches.
I called down there and sent a guy to see if he could get some film.
Our local guys in Roanoke got involved and went to check it out too. Unfortunately, it took up a ton of time for them, pulled them out of pocket (very late in the campaign), and because our staffing was so sparce down there, I got a hell of a tongue lashing from our Field Director.
In the end, I still think that if we would have gotten film of book burnings, Webb would have won in a landslide.
Any other questions?

What media was calling the Deputy/Assistant Field Director?
Posted by: | April 04, 2007 at 01:53 PM
Josh, Josh, Josh!
That gets you a record five wags of my fanny.
Posted by: fannyboy | April 04, 2007 at 01:54 PM
Way to big of a buildup. I thought the story would be about hiring Josh...
I kid. I kid.

Or Deputy/Ass field director as Josh was known.

Are you sure "Our local guys in Roanoke got involved and went to check it out too." is entirely accurate?
Not really my recollection of events.

Tell us more!!!
Posted by: | April 04, 2007 at 01:59 PM
Hey, I'm not blaming anyone in Roanoke. It was my tip, I got you guys involved. It was all me.
Posted by: Josh | April 04, 2007 at 02:01 PM
Tribbett butt-buddy (or fanny-buddy) Joe Stanley takes issue with Chernila's characterization of events!
Will we see a clash between these two former coworkers?
Whose recollection is accurate?
Can anyone survive a blow by Joe Stanley's behind?
Developing...

Oh Fanny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side...

The media quote is much more interesting. Was Josh authorized by the campaign to speak to the media? If he was doing so off the record that would hurt his chances of being trusted in the future.

Joe- not how I remember it either!! And Josh is not to blame for the bad intel - I heard the information came from the top of the campaign - Larry certainly was not pleased with Josh and he wasn't pleased with Joe and I for listening to Josh!

Ole Freddy! Last time I saw you, you were lookin' cleaner than the Board of Health.

The information did not come from the top of the campaign if Larry Byrne wasn't happy.

Get off the blogs, Fred.
You're a federal employee now.
Posted by: | April 04, 2007 at 02:31 PM
I am a federal employee and I do not blog, unless I am on my lunch break, such as now!

Ben, I have reached the top. I have spawned a "spoof-blogger." I can go no further. Fannyboy...make me proud.
Posted by: Dannyboy | April 04, 2007 at 02:40 PM
Dannyboy gets a staggering six wags of the fanny for being so arrogant as to presume that I am lampooning him.
Just because I choose to embrace my large backside doesn't mean that I'm making light of it. Sensitivity, please.
And an extra wag of the fanny for putting an expression like spoof-blogger in quotation marks, when no one has ever uttered such a phrase out loud.

Josh says, "It was all me." Pretty much sums it up.
I, for one, would rather hear Joe's version.

Riveting.
Posted by: | April 04, 2007 at 04:08 PM
You actually believed there would be book burnings in churches? The fact that Webb won with staff like you guys says about all you need to know about that race.

LOOK AT ME!!!! PLEASE!!!
