"Connolly said county officials have found several boarding houses, and in some cases, brothels, making the issue bigger than just zoning enforcement. That’s why there is a need to "strike back" with the teams, he said."
Hmm... didn't realize the brothels were such a big issue in Fairfax.

Well,......apparently the woman down the street from me got arrested for prostitution. And I'm in a pretty nice neighborhood.....I'm just saying it's not that unheard of.

I don't think one prostitute is a brothel.

What the hell is wrong with a brothel? What is this, 1890?
Well, the only thing I can think of is that one uncomfortable moment running into Bob McDonnell in that one near Burke. I do think it was more awkward for him, but it sure kept me out of that place for a long time.

There are brothels in Fairfax County. They may not be obvious or well known, but any locality with a population is likely to have some...
Posted by: | June 29, 2007 at 11:33 PM
I meant "a population of more than a million"
Posted by: | June 29, 2007 at 11:34 PM
Are you saying you know of a brothel or you assume there is one because of population size?
Posted by: Not Larry Sabato | June 29, 2007 at 11:43 PM
NLS is a brothel

I think the pic here captures the essence of the situation.

While it's easy to make light of this, there really is a serious problem here. We're not talking about $400 an hour call girls. We're talking about human trafficking and slavery -- women kept captive and forced to work as prostitutes.
Might I recommend the Polaris Project's web site:
http://216.128.14.181/polarisproject/
Such brothels are known to exist in Northern Virginia, and Frank Wolf has been talking about this for at least a year. That it's just come to Chairman Connolly's attention is no surprise, however.

Legalize and regulate it. Unionize it and tax the crap out of it. Problem solved.
Posted by: Doug | June 30, 2007 at 02:21 PM
Human trafficking and sexual slavery are serious issues. If that is really what is going on here (which I kind of doubt), it is an illustration of why we need stronger controls on who gets into the country. Of course, we need an international commitment to eliminate trafficking and punish traffickers harshly.
If I had any knowledge of such a thing going on in Fairfax, I would not be endorsing the above image as a way of ridiculing our 21st century version of Tammany Hall.

If anyone is out there door knocking for candidates long enough, you are bound to knock on the door of a brothel. They are defintitely around Fairfax County and need to go!

I spit out my drink laughing when I saw this picture! That is so wrong, and hilarious... Good job NLS!
In all seriousness, this is a very serious matter, especially if it's dealing with human trafficking and sexual slavery issues. And yes, NAW, Congressman Wolf has been very strong on this over the years.
Doug- People who are selling their bodies, especially if it's due to sexual slavery (which is still rampant throughout the world, and takes advantage of young women and children) is not a funny issue. Legalizing prostitution would only make such circumstances more readily acceptable, and easier to hide. There are some great organizations like International Justice Missions which have been strong in eliminating such practices throughout the globe, however it's an up-hill battle, and I don't know of any mother who raises her child with the hope that he/she will be "turning tricks" some day. The fact that you would advocate for something so hideous is shameful.

About 5 years ago, police found a brothel across from the library in Bethesda MD. The problem was revealed when the library parking lot was full all the time. At the time, reporters at WaPo quoted cops who said the working girls had been brought in the country illegally and had been handcuffed to the bed. Makes me wonder how the customers could live with themselves.

A voter- you are to laugh at. I am talking about brining a trade (the oldest, if you didn't know you ignorant gint) out from the darkness into the legal light. That idea DIRECTLY makes it against the law for any of the things you put forward to be legal and to all fall under the legal spotlight.
Legal prostitution, paying for sex, is not slavery or what you talk about. Pah. Puritans belong with t or back in the 18th century. Watch a little HBO and you'll find some people, oh the majority of americans, think sex is ok. Not ok- but fUN!
Actually, you know what. Sex is fun. I'll admit it. And between consenting adults (which is the ONLY legal way sex should be performed) sex is fan-frickin-tastic. If two CONSENTING adults want to have sex, and it one is charging money for said sex, God bless them, have at it.
If there is any coersion, slavery, etc. involved, JAIL THE FRICKERS! IS that clear as to where I stand. Slavery = bad as anything I can think of. Sex = great (free - ha - or paid for). Ron Paul 08!

You're not following, Doug. Look for countries where sexual slavery is alive and well, and often times you'll discover legalized prostitution, as well. It doesn't necessarily mean that everywhere legalized prostitution is, you'll also find slavery, however it's understandable why they seem to exist in the same places.
As soon as a person's body becomes devalued to effect that it is nothing more than a commodity, it is easy to make the transition to treating people as if they were products, not humans. It's a degradation of society that I'd rather not promote.
I don't doubt the fun of sex... I just have a dislike of humans being able to rent their bodies, as if they were only worth the asking price.
So answer me this... if you were to have kids would you want them to become prostitutes, why or why not?

Really impressive work, in very individual ways. Amazing -- especially considering the time constraints.

Great Post !! The person is standing in the front of car is woman or man. By dress , she is looking woman. On the other hand, By body, he is looking man . Don't you think it is very serious matter, especially if it's dealing sexual slavery issues.

The great thing about sex fantasy is that it is a celebration of the two of you and your relationship. You can show each other your most sexual, uninhibited sides and know that your partner will love that side of you. Make sure that it remains mutually enjoyable and soon you will be having the kind of sex that you only fantasized about.
