Screen Name Stolen
Hey everyone- I have posted my AOL Instant Massinger Screen Name on here before. This morning someone stole it- and changed the password! I can't get back in, I had that name since middle school and I don't remember the security question from back then.
I set up a new screen name- notlarrysabato. If any of you receive a message from the old screen name please report it to me immediately. Thanks for your help, and does anyone know a phone number I can call at AOL? I'd love to see if I can find the IP that did this.

I didn't get a message but you were online about an hour ago.

Thanks, from what I can tell they took the name at 8:38 a.m.

I have it on good authority that that it was Sex Rimmons who stole your screen name.

I don't see how this is possible without someone knowing your password and logging in as you and changing it. Who the hell would know your password? And why did they know it? You either trusted someone too much, or someone is a true freak with way too much time on their hands, trying to come up with any and all passwords you may use, trying desperately to log in.
I've been stalked before too, fun, isn't it?

I think phriendlyjaime did it. She probably just couldn't stand seeing the word "nonsmoker" on her buddylist!

No one could guess my password- it is an old neighbor's weird last name that moved to California years ago with random numbers.
Obviously, I signed in somewhere and it accidently saved the password- so someone logged in there and changed it.
Good thing I only signed on from one location- and so I know exactly where it happened. I'm pretty close to calling the police on this.

A friend of mine got stalked by an ex, and among other things, he got into her AIM, which she never used post-college, and would IM people pretending to be her. They didn't do a damn thing to help her.

Ben you and others need to really check your PCs for Key-Loggers and various other malicious spy-ware... it is not uncommon for a password or even a credit card number to be caught by software that accidentally got installed when someone reads an on-line greeting card or watches a funny animation..... even my best trained security friends occaisionally get bitten when a family member uses their PC while they are out of the house..... it is a very sneaky world out there in cyberspace....

You're going to call the police on this? Man, I wished I lived in the People's Republic of Northern Virginia where police would actually consider responding to some computer geek whining about losing his Instant Messenger name.
Some things aren't worth getting so upset about.

An AOL IM seems a little juvenile a thing to complain about, but it is identity theft. Anyone not knowing Ben's account was compromised would think anyone else using it was his, which could be very damaging to his reputation.
