This schizophrenia on illegal immigration seems to be going around with some of the Democrats. I'm hearing Jay Donahue is also claiming to be "tough" on illegal immigration after supporting Herndon's illegal immigrant hiring site fiasco.
As with Raising Kaine, I suspect both Rishell and Donahue will fall victim to their own previous positions, which have been recorded for posterity.

Are you kidding Ben?
Do you actually believe they put that out there? The Rishell campaign took those signs out as soon as they learned about them.
Good job falling for BVBL lackeys with some time on thier hands and a Digital Camera. The yard signs could have been lifted from anywhere.

I might agree with Manassas Dem here. Rishell can't be that stupid.

I'd be willing to be El Frenchie Greg Letieaucq was involved with that somehow.

That does kind of seem like a set up. Just a bit too obvious, clumsy even.

I to doubt that Rishell's campaign put the signs in the yard. However, I wouldnt be suprised at all if the property owner or another political supporter of Rishell's put the signs there thinking it would help. Many of her supporters here in the City are EXTREMELY politically tone deaf.
BTW, Miller's sign are popping up in many yards around the City. Rishell has very few.

Its quite a change for the BVBL'ers. They've spent the entire campaign so far invent a flip flop from Rishell on Immigration. Even this week they have been bloviating over her mail pieces.
This is a set up to try and gain some press and feed a stereotype about Dems. It's just more bloated exageration from BVBL. Good job geving it another ounce of credibility.

what's wrong with all you "open minded" lib's. can't a candidate put up signs and show support for what they believe in and the people they support?
Posted by: | September 20, 2007 at 09:49 PM
Hahahahahahaha, "diserve".
Posted by: phriendlyjaime | September 20, 2007 at 09:53 PM
It's an obvious set up.

Manassas Dem, as an independent in Manassas I was already probably going to vote for Miller as I have met him several times. He seems to be a very good man who is sincere in his beliefs.
I have never met Jeanette Rishell and the first two pieces of mail from her campaign are as negative and non-issue oriented as I have ever seen in Manassas. She never bothered sending anything about herself first. I have gotten three pieces of mail from Miller. All of them were positive and didnt even mention Rishell. Its not just Greg L. and the Help Save Manassas crowd that is upset about this. Many of my friends who are non-political have become very turned off by Rishell. People are "bloviating" for good reason.

So a homeless man was beaten within inches of his life in Woodbridge by a bunch of teenagers. All for six dollars and a pack of cigarettes. This hate doesn't come out of nowhere. Think carefully about what you are brewing in the ex-urbs....

Come on Ben, I can't believe you posted this one.
Its clear that Greg, Miller or one of their associates did this. These shennigans just shows that Rishell has been making traction in the 50th.

Ben, don't be such a sanctimonious, reactionary 'tard. Rishell's campaign didn't put them there, and got them up and out of there the very moment they knew about them. The recent spat of posts on BVBL and this prank is evidence that they're catching on that Rishell's outraised them 2:1.

This sign-capade is not the story about this race here in Manassas.
The big story is Rishell's incredibly negative mail and phone call attack on Miller. I think she has flushed much of her hard work with the ill-advised attack on Miller's record. Apparently most of her claims are false.

It is critical to remember that Rishell IS the pro-choice candidate for the 50th. While her opponent might be a fine person, he is not a pro-choice delegate. Surely a quick look at the current Supreme Court make up sounds an alarm. If Roe is overturned, VA is poised and perched to outlaw abortion.

Life in Manassas became just a bit more unpleasant. The Manassas Journal reports in its Saturday edition, that devices similar to Molotov cocktails were found at 8500 Liberty Street, site of a large, pro-immigration banner. While the sign and its sentiments are protected First Amendment Speech, Molotov cocktails are not. In fact, they have NO place in any community which seeks to live by the rule of law, not the rule of agitators and malcontents.
Since the Prince William County Board of Supervisors has declared war on illegal immigrants, this area has seen a litany of unpleasant events. First, there was the KKK distributing fliers in the area; then it was the prank of Jeanette Rishell's opponents placing her campaign signs by the banner with photos that magically appeared on local conservative, anti-immigration blogs; next came counter signs anonymously dropped off saying things like, "Go back, Speak English. This is Not Mexico." and "Your (sic) Lucky To be Here.'" Finally, the explosive devices tossed on the property.
City Council had best step up to this situation and defuse it quickly and promptly. Councilor Jonathan Way left no doubt where he stood when he was quoted as saying, "I hope we catch the evildoers and run them out of town." Bravo!
Unfortunately, not all of Council has Way's good sense.
Councilor Marc Aveni, the man who wants to bring the Prince William County's immigration stance to Manassas, is quoted in the same MJM article saying, "This is the kind of climate they (illegal immigrant supporters) are creating by putting up the sign in the first place. They are not blameless."
Mr. Aveni has just made this situation more volatile. One would think he would engage his brain before saying such inflaming comments. But, as my mother always said, "COMMON SENSE IS NOT VERY COMMON."
Hopefully the other members of Council have some!

"The Manassas Journal reports in its Saturday edition, that devices similar to Molotov cocktails were found at 8500 Liberty Street, site of a large, pro-immigration banner."
Hmmmm ... now who could have placed unexploded molotov cocktails in front of this sign??? That's right, Mexicans without borders - for the purposes of propaganda.

Except for a few spelling mistakes on the home-grown sign, I think it makes some good points.
As Hokie Ann said, be careful what you breed in the exurbs. The Virginia GOP is repeating the political suicide that the California GOP did with Pete Wilson. And people are waking up to it.
Don't misdirect your anger, righties. Unless of course, that is, you are completely comfortable with permanent minority status.

I don't know who placed the molotov. The paper didn't mention if the rag was burnt or not, if it was it could just be the thing went out after being thrown.
But as to the Rishell signs -- And realise this is just logic and reasoning, not proof.
The site is surrounded by a fence. You can't easily get in -- witness that someone who supposedly wanted to destroy the sign had to throw a molotov at it, rather than just walking up and tearing it down or lighting it on fire.
Further, and this is more of a question -- if a homeowner puts up a candidate sign, do the candidates have the right to take them down from private property? How could Rishell's people go into a fenced area and remove her signs legally? Wouldn't she need to get the homeowner's permission?
Or do candidates "own" their signs even when someone else puts them up?
As to the sign itself, why is it always "we" and "you"? How are we supposed to get along as a community if people IN the community see everything as an "us" vs "them" scenario?
