RACISM IN JEFF EVANS CAMPAIGN?
Chip Hairston is working on the Jeff Evans campaign and is a member of the "George Wallace Appreciation Society". What is wrong with Jeff Evans?
From Wiki on Wallace: "He is best known for his pro-segregation attitudes during the American desegregation period, which he modified after the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act,
arguing that it was better for him to be governor while the schools
were being desegregated than for someone else. Wallace was so adamant
in his belief in segregation that he opposed a federal mandate in 1963
to allow African-Americans to attend school with Caucasians"
What next- Will Jeff Evans stand in the doorway of a school house?
Whatever this turns out to be, can't say I'll be shocked after seeing some of the filth put out by the Evans clan.

Who is Jeff Evans and what is he running for?

Didn't George Wallace renounce his racist positions much later in life (not saying to defend Hairston, just checking my memory)?

What are you talking about. He didn't have to bring in anyone named Chip or Skippy for that matter–remember this doozie by his campaign manger

This whole campaign is a joke.
It's like open mic night meets a Klan rally!

Chip Hairston is a very dear friend of mine...and he's black. (He prefers being called black, not African-American.) Keep trying Ben.

I know he's African American- and that's no excuse for joining the George Wallace Appreciation Society.

Oh Ben - Every time I think you've hit bottom you somehow find a new low.
Here's an idea - how 'bout a campaign based on issues and not personalities? Don't you get tired of being the Chicken Little of Racism?

Didn't stop Doug Wilder from doing the equivalent for students who use wheelchairs by refusing to foot part of the bill to make Richmond schools ADA compliant.

I went through badrose's blog for the first time and found the funniest picture in the history of blogging... ben in all his glory:

In the late 1970s, Wallace became a born-again Christian, and in the same era apologized to black civil rights leaders for his earlier segregationist views, calling these views wrong. He said that while he once sought power and glory, he realized he needed to seek love and forgiveness. His final term as Governor (1983–1987) saw a record number of black Alabamians appointed to government positions.

Anon 1:19 -- it's not nice to confuse an imbecile like NLS with facts. Let him live in little vacuum.

Seeing that NLS proved on the recent Gill discussion that he's a religious bigot, it probably won't matter much to him that Wallace became a Christian and changed his life.

Alton Foley is Jeff Evans' campaign manager.
You know, the Alton Foley who said he had no use for the Koran "except for pissing on it."
Maybe there IS something going on in that campaign.
I bet Jeff Evans would fit right in with George Allen as a leading spokesman for the Republican Party.
Posted by: | September 12, 2007 at 07:21 AM
Alton Foley: Anti-Muslim bigot.
Jeff Evans: Admirer of George Wallace, who was a racist and bigot.
George Allen: Racist.
Bill Howell: Anti-Hispanic bigot.
Virgil Goode: Anti-Muslim bigot.
Most of the ODBA: Raving anti-gay, anti-Muslim, anti-gay bigots.
Sensing a pattern here?

Yoo Hoo, Carol Wolfe, Richmond School Board member, is that you, posing as "Factchecker" at 12:01?

Evans at last night's Floyd County forum:
"Immigrants are destroying our country. Who knows what kind of diseases are being brought in from them (sic) borders."

Ben - Are you really calling call a black guy racist against black people? If you're calling Evans racist for hiring Hairston you must be calling Hairston racist. That has to be about the most stupid thing ever posted on this blog (and that's saying a lot).
Amazing how the Virginia Democratic party has boiled its entire message down to one of race. Pitiful.
Posted by: | September 12, 2007 at 09:21 AM
Wait a freakin' minute! Don't ever attribute NLS' rants for the Virginia Democratic Party.

dems4dems - I apologize for tying all dems to NLS. However, just look at the comments here and you see all you need to see. Evans is a racist, Allen is a racist, Goode is a racist, Howell is a racist, etc. etc. Heck, even Lambert was suddenly a racist. That's it. That's all we hear these days. There's got to be some more substance buried somewhere in this party.

George Wallace ended-up renouncing racism. He said that he realized that he had lead a flawed life, and he became committed to racial integration.
Posted by: History Check | September 12, 2007 at 10:40 AM
History Check is correct. The question is, are Jeff Evans and Alton Foley willing to make the same admission?
Posted by: | September 12, 2007 at 10:45 AM
anon 10:45 - Your post means you believe Hairston is racist. Really? Want to tell him that?
Posted by: | September 12, 2007 at 11:19 AM
No, I said, "Jeff Evans and Alton Foley" I know that is easy to read as "Chip Hairston" with all the same letters and similar spelling.
If Chip Hairston is african-american, I don't believe he is capable of being a "racist" in the strictest use of the word.
He is capable of being a self-loathing bigot as a member of the George Wallace Appreciation Society, but that doesn't make him a racist.
Notice I said he was capable of it, I didn't say he was. I don't know him, so i don't know what he is.
Posted by: Anon 10:45 | September 12, 2007 at 11:35 AM
Yeah, we can all see you didn't name Hairston. However, Evans has only done something wrong (in the context of this thread) if you believe Hairston has done something wrong. Therefore, by requiring an "admission" out of Evans, you're calling for the same from Hairston and implying he's a racist. I realize that logic may be difficult to follow but ask your freshman logic teacher and she'll be able to help you out.

I'm still waiting for Alton Foley to apologize to Moslems for saying he would piss on their holy book, and for Jeff Evans to tell me how that kind of talk from his campaign staff squares with his "Christian values".
