Oakton High School had their annual candidates forum on Thursday. Apparently in the student assembly the floor was open for students to ask questions.
Apparently in the assembly, Lannie Singerman stood up and asked both candidates their position on abortion. Lannie is a 17 year old high school senior. Senator Jeannemarie Devolites Davis who had met Lannie when she was doing her government hours for Chap Petersen started screaming at Lannie in front of the entire assembly because she worked for Chap and the question was a set up. Really- it is a set up to ask a softball question on your position on abortion?
Jeannemarie now joins Liz Bradsher as the two pathetic candidates to scream at high school minors during this campaign cycle. Pathetic ladies.

What's the over/under that:
1) Ben is making a mountain out of a molehill?
2) Ben will make a dramatic prediction of the race and/or the future of the Davis family, despite this "incident" having little to no real impact.

But Va Blogger, don't you know that every voter reads NLS?

You two douchebags clearly check daily. I love these comments.

5:33, why wouldn't we check daily?

The hell? I mean how is asking a candidate their position on an issue a setup? I mean unless JMDD is trying to hide her pro-life voting record.

it'd be sweet if there was video of this...

Abortion is a funny issue for Tom. Even when he was running away with his elections, he never wanted to talk about abortion in a forum where he could be quoted.

The odds are pretty good that Ben got the tip from some rabid leftwingnut that her friend's mom was told by somebody's neighbor who heard from their hairdresser that JMDD said something mean to somebody.
The problem for Ben is he doesn't have a very good track record for honesty lately. What happened to his ridiculously bogus BOOB story? As I predicted, NLS dropped that story like a bad habit, and never had the decency to admit he ran the story on B.S. information.
Same sorry shit from NLS.

Lannie is a great YD- she spent alot of time volunteering for Webb before the primary along with her HS club. Shes also very nice and non-threatening... I don't know why on earth Senator Devolites Davis would single out and harass Lannie.
Just another sign that JMDD sees whats coming and is getting desperate.

Good grief Nation. There is a certain decorum that is "ecpected" from candidates. If they can't control themselves in front of some daring, provocative and involved highschoolers than what can we expect from them if (God forbid) elected.

If someone asks a question, then you should just answer it. Doesn't that make sense? Instead, she goes mental and now we are talking about it on an internet forum. Nice job, crazy lady. Next time just kick a puppy.

The funny thing is that Republicans are so often the ones who want to bring up how they believe they're on the right side of the abortion debate.
Look at how all the '08 GOP Presidential candidates have spent the last week or so saying that they are morally opposed to abortion. It almost seemed like all the newscasts could focus on was the fact that Rudy was going to have to address the issue of abortion during the speech he just gave to the religious right.

Uh, it probably was a set-up. Still, it's kind of pointless to get worked up about it since both sides do it.

Even if it was a setup, which we have no proof of, Jeannemarie has a voting record. Once, when it was easier to be a conservative in her district, before she decided she had to run to the left of Chap, she was actually proud of her pro-life record.
But I guess when you're trying to be a RINO, this becomes an embarrassing question. Just ask Tom, who has had more experience pretending to be a RINO.

It wasn't a set-up. I can't provide video, but I can provide a list of about 150 other high school students who witnessed the incident.
And, good picture choice... couldn't you have chosen the one of me with Mark Warner? :-/

I'm the SGA President at Oakton and I was in the cafeteria when this supposedly happened. But Im coming at this completely unbiased and that statement is wildly not true. JMDD just said, completely calmly, before her answer "I was told before I got here that you would be asking Chad Petersen questions on behalf of his campaign." Then she went on to say how she is pro-life but that states dont have much to say over the abortion issue because the supreme court has cleary limited states rights on that issue. I find a major problem in news these days is that people are just trying to find news to report, but this frankly never happened, and I can imagine how laney viewed it as an insult, Im a democrat but she is wildy liberal.

Oh and GO HILLARY CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT!! WOOO
Posted by: Jon Perl | October 21, 2007 at 01:24 AM
Thank you Jon Perl for adding a bit of reality. Of course everyone who knows Jeannemarie knows she would not be screaming at a student in public. Ridiculous. Ben just makes up silly stuff about people he doesn't like. Jeannemarie, Liz Bradsher, John Litzenberger, to name but a few.

True story
just 16 more days of this crap

Well, well, well. The truth comes out.
Not that the truth every matters to NLS. The universe of people who take Ben seriously, or believe a word he utters (or types) must be shrinking pretty rapidly.
Posted by: I.Publius | October 21, 2007 at 08:01 AM
I don't see why it's unfair to ask Jeannemarie to promise to keep her pro-life beliefs personal and vote to protect women's rights. If she truly believes she's a RINO, there should be no plank of the GOP platform that is inviolable. She should have switched parties when she had the chance.

JMDD just doesn't want abortion to be an issue in this election. She has everything else going against her, why would she want further attention to her 100% Anti-abortion rating and 0% Planned Parenthood rating (see today's Washington Post for source on those numbers)?
The point is that she isn't going to answer questions on abortion. Whether or not she "screamed" at a high school student isn't the issue here.
Now, if you are Chap, start running the Pro-Choice flyers...
Posted by: Interested Observer | October 21, 2007 at 09:37 AM
The link in my comment above has Jeannemarie's ratings on abortion, as well as the anecdote about Saslaw asking her to switch parties. The conclusion of the article is very interesting, too - "[Jeannemarie] argue[s] that a senior Republican wields more power than a freshman Democrat, which makes some sense. Unless, that is, the Democrats take back control of the Senate, which they are four votes away from doing."
I think Chap should stress not only how much more in line he is with his district, but also how much more he'll be able to do for his district. Even if Jeannemarie were to win, by this time she has to have so alienated her fellow Republicans that they'd even have more reason to stick it to Northern VA.

Has any one heard about Danny Marshall making a fool out of Bill Howell while in Southside. Apparently Howell was taking about all these endorsements Marhsall has. That wasn't the case. Who has the egg towel?
