Vince has the scoop- I don't think they would put Chris Saxman next to Jim Gilmore in the speaking order unless he was in the race for U.S. Senate.  Wow, this will be fun to watch.

This is interesting because Saxman could potentialy wound himself severely here. He is a relatively young guy and could have a bright future. Why would he blow it now for something that he may not even make it out of. I think this Senate run is more of a ploy to raise name I.D. for himself for a run to be the next Lieutenant Governor. I can't wait to see what he will do this weekend at the Advacne.

While Gilmore did some initial good work as AG in the Hugh Finn case, he bailed before finishing the job.

Saxman's a smart young man. Frankly, it'll be embarassing to Gilmore if Saxman can give him a run for his money in fundraising.

His winning or losing the senate nomination is kind of irrelevant -- he won't beat Warner. But it'll be interesting to see how well he parts the waters for his LG bid and who else steps up to the plate.

I predict he will shock the world and throw his support behind Marge Schott.

Stupid move for Saxman. Worst case, he losed to Gilmore. If by some chance he does get the nomination, then he gets crushed by Warner. Unless Warner has a "Allen foot in mouth" moment, which he wont, he wins in a landslide and Saxman is the guy who WAS an up and comer. The fact that NLS wants him to run, proves it cant be good for Saman or the GOP. The best thing for the GOP to do is conceed the seat, let Warner dispatch Gilmore for them and start anew in '09 where they have a good shot at the Gov's mansion.

Not so stupid a move. If he beats Gilmore, that would be his worst nightmare but that's not going to happen. If he "exceeds expectations" against Gilmore, that gives him a leg up on every other first time statewide candidate for the LG nomination.

Maybe Saxman should talk to Steve Agee to get a preview of what a convention fight with a low life like Gilmore will be like. Im sure Gilmore will find that Saxman is either a communist or terrorist..

Again, another Democrat staying it isnt a bad move. They want Saxman to be damaged goods to keep him from running in the future.

How can Saxman really expect to get around to all the local unit committee meeting while he has session. Will he resign? Miss votes? Those first three months that the GA is in are critical to nailing down local committee support and he'll be stuck in Richmond while Gilmore, who is already known (For better or worst), gets to go around the state locking down delegate votes.

Forget about LG, he knows Bolling is going nowhere and his "old guard" rhetoric is as much a jab at George Allen as it is at Jimbo. Saxman will be the wild card in the Governor's race and will slide to victory in a crowded field.
