First of all, it is an exploratory committee (although we all know what that means). Secondly, if he wins, he knocks off a Republican seat, which is good. If he loses, he still has a job.
Just like....Hillary Clinton (and Bill Clinton before her when he was Governor of Arkansas).
I bet Leslie is a little worried now....

Look at the background of the Washington Post picture- he is now using that flag vomit shirt as his backdrop.

Greetings from Iowa.
Ben, as usual, you got it wrong again.
First of all, any registered voter in Iowa can vote in either party's caucus but they have to switch their registration at the caucus in order to participate in that party's caucus, so technically everyone participating in the Dems caucus in Iowa will be a registered Democrat at the time of the caucus. And it has always been that way - so why would Obama, all of a sudden, suffer consequesnces in the general election from Dems? Did Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale or any other Dem nominee who won Iowa? The answer is NO! You, as a Clinton supporter, are just trying to manufacture an issue.
And in NH, independents can vote in the primary there but they do not have to change their registration. So, if Hillary Clinton wins in NH, will she suffer consequences in the general election because independents voted in the primary? Of course not - the bile you post sometimes is lame, full of half truths and the rest is just plain scary.
And as far as Obama is concerned, I really suggest you curb the venom you have been directing his way. Obama has a lot of support in NOVA, and knowing you are a huge supporter of Leslie Byrne's, I'm sure you wouldn't want to see us move in mass to another candidate, so cool it.

Leslie Byrne is all that stands between a madman and the Congress.
Posted by: | January 01, 2008 at 11:32 PM
Ben that is exactly right and why did Amy Gardner fail to point out this story was leaked to her the first day Gerry was in office for his new term? This is pure absurdity.

DO YOU HAVE TO SCREAM AT US IN SUCH A HUGE FONT????????????
Anyway, give the guy a little credit, he's done well for himself and has won elections while Leslie has lost some. He can raise money, he has connections, so he's not chopped liver as a candidate.
Now, NLS, I'm waiting for you to declare the next "MAJOR CONNOLLY SCANDAL" like you did a few weeks ago with those really really awful e-mails about videotaping Gary Baise. That was some powerful stuff that really turned the political world upside down.
Posted by: | January 02, 2008 at 12:16 AM
Jerry's not my cup of tea. He's a corporate Dem in the worst sense of the word and we could see his angling for Davis' seat from outer space. YES - it was THAT obvious...
Especially after the Tyson's Tunnel debacle, and his lack of support for fellow Dems during the 07 cycle, Connolly needs to focus on being chairman and let Byrne and Denneny figure out who's best to represent this Democratic trending NOVA district.

Don't you know that board positions are just stepping stones to bigger (and usually for us, not better) things?
Posted by: Timothy Watson | January 02, 2008 at 01:05 AM
It doesn't really matter that he's only served 34 hours. Gary Baise and Republicans brought up over and over tha Connolly had no plans to stay a full term. He still won by nearly 60%. I would say he has a mandate to do this.

The man is SO VERY UGLY. Has no one told him that mustaches make men look suspicious? No man has won the Presidency with a mustache since 19th century. That very busy eyebrows are awful? That out of date glasses age him 10 years? That very yellow/brown teeth are OUT? This man needs a total makeover if he expects to be a Congressman.

Get some sleep Janie. No one is taking about this creep running for President.
This is a horrible choice. An amazonian pro-abortion hag versus a snivelling liberal cretin.
The real problem is the internal ugliness of these people, not their external deformities.

Ben, I'm having some trouble reading the post. Can you make the font size a little bigger please?
Posted by: Va Blogger | January 02, 2008 at 07:39 AM
t, you're a far uglier person on the inside than either Leslie Byrne or Gerry Connolly.
Posted by: Johnny Longtorso | January 02, 2008 at 08:01 AM
As ususal, I must point out that NLS endorsed this creep for re-election. Why would you be surprised that he would do this??? He's an arrogant self serving a-hole.
Posted by: Loudoun Insider | January 02, 2008 at 08:37 AM
There's certainly nothing wrong with seeking a higher office, but I agree with NLS... announcing your intention to do so within a day of serving out the current term is a tad low-class.
Posted by: A Voter | January 02, 2008 at 08:50 AM
He's a Democrat. Low-class is all he knows.
Posted by: | January 02, 2008 at 08:52 AM
With friends like these, I like Gerry's chances.

"Has no one told him that mustaches make men look suspicious?"
I take offense at that! I do not look suspicious!
Dashingly handsome, sure, but suspicious? No.

Factchecker..check your facts. To say Gerry did not support other Dems in 2007 is to not have been paying attention. Gerry spent the whole campaign running as a team with all the other candidates, he was everywhere with and for them, at fundraisers, at public events, at HQ. Just as the top of the ticket should have been.
It was the Brynes who were more selective in their support of candidates last year..anyone see them outside of Chap's campaign?
Posted by: Not Donkey Breath | January 02, 2008 at 10:49 AM
Wy is Gerry coming to everyone elses' events helpful to them? He was using their events for himself, as he always has, and always will. How much of his million dollars did he give to other candidates? How many donors did he send their way?
Posted by: | January 02, 2008 at 11:04 AM
Johnny Longtorso, post your real name punk.
Nobody talks that way to t.

Isn't there a reporting requirement (and perhaps new sunshine-law oversight) associated with this website given the subtitle "The Official Transition Office of Congresswoman-elect Leslie Byrne"?
Posted by: | January 02, 2008 at 11:08 AM
Connolly had close to a million dollars in the bank and didn't do a damn thing to help other Democrats in 2007. Connolly is not a loyal Democrat, just another corrupt crony of Tom Davis. Why doesn't he switch to the Republican Party, he'd fit in well there?
Posted by: | January 02, 2008 at 11:12 AM
Leslie gets beat more often than the Miami Dolphins.
