Hillary Leads in Virginia's Super Delegates
Who can carry Virginia in November? Let's see what the Democratic leadership in Virginia thinks...
Committed to Clinton (5):
Mame Reiley
Susan Swecker
Jennifer McClellan
Lionell Spruill
Terry McAullufe
Committed to Obama (2):
Tim Kaine
Bobby Scott
Committed to Edwards (1):
Dick Cranwell
Uncommitted (4):
Jim Webb
Jim Moran
Rick Boucher
Jim Leaman
Jennifer McClellan siding with Hillary is the real story here.
An African American Woman, perhaps a future Governor of the Commonwealth. I'll send her a $5000 campaign contribution if she does.
As for Gov. Kaine, who I respect and admire, he went on CNN this morning and spoke with Wolf. He spun so much for Obama I got dizzy--and the talking point of "Obama got more delegates" is technically wrong.
SC will be interesting....

I'm sorry, Lionell "replica genitalia bill" Spruill is a Virginia Democratic Leader?

This guy repeatedly makes me embarrased to be a Virginian. Aparently, replica stainless steel "balls" hanging from a trailer-hitch are just so offensive that we need to spend state time outlawing them.

Jake L,
Of course, if Lionell was an Obama supporter you'd be singing his praise...
If you knew Lionell, you'd feel silly for writing that attack. Also, the bill is about a subject that women find offensive--it is disgusting and juvenile. He is addressing constituent complaints about this issue.

I just read another talk by Obama today. OMG.
""The divisions, the stereotypes, the scape-goating, the ease with which we blame the plight of ourselves on others, all of that distracts us from the common challenges we face: war and poverty; inequality and injustice," Obama said."
Yeah. The speech is the visionary pablum of a 12 year old. All the talk about healing in the world doesn't accomplish a thing. Go to all the hard issues, like abortion. Compromise? How? You think it's murder, or not. (Or murder that's okay if the alternative is forcing a woman to have a child through rape or incest.)
Or economic divisions. I have news for Mr. Obama. There's a reason the upper middle class and above vote Republican. They like the tax cuts they've gotten, and they don't give a damn about the impoverished. They think they've gotten where they are through their own efforts (neglecting niceties like family inheritance, good genetics, good neighborhoods to grow up in with good schools). And they're not willingly going to give any of it away.
We can see how well Obama's talks of healing and compromise have worked in Kenya, where the discord seems to be getting worse.
Obama has been going to church too long, believing in things like miracles and prayer and hope. Those are emotions born out of delusion. We need leaders with a realistic view of the world.

Great story on how Hillary won Nevada. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0108/7996.html A must read for organizers in Virginia. In short -- don't base your vote goals on getting out the regulars. Expand the universe, because you have to expect a larger than average turnout.

Is there any need to include McAullufe? I'd certainly hope she has the support of her campaign chairmen.

You are a little short on the Obama supporters. How about Wilder, Dwight Jones and McEachin?

Clarice, I honestly feel sorry for you.

Susan Swecker is a joke. She shouldn't even be a DNC member.

Have Dwight and Donald formally announced for Obama?

all of this dem infighting warms my heart so much

The malaise of Republican voters in Iowa, New Hampshire, SC and Nevada excites me!

For everyone on here who keeps naming other VA Dem leaders-- read Ben's post-- these are the Super Delegates from VA. Ben's not doing a blow by blow post on who is supporting who-- these are the super delegates to the DNC who live in Virginia. McCauliffe lives in VA. Super Delegates are Congressional Members, the Gov and party chair, Leaman (VA AFL/CIO), and other national committee members

this is only relevant if the convention gets to the second ballot.
For the first ballot, all the delegates are committed to whomever wins the primary.

What are you talking about Los? That's not true at all. Super Delegates can vote for whoever they want, that's why they are Super.

Hmmm, Is this not Jennifer
McClellan looking lovingly at Obama. If this is the looks she gives to the person she is not supporting how must she look at H. Clinton?

Looks like the Hillary people cheated their way to victory in Nevada:
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=080120230437.zyjekftq&show_article=1
As a Republican looking at our primaries, I'm pessimistic about our chances in November -- until I look at the Democrats.
The only way our base will be motivated in November is if Hillary is the Democratic nominee. Keep up the good work, Democrats!

Ben,
Where do you place Mark Warner in this mix? Uncommitted?
Posted by: Pete in Williamsburg | January 20, 2008 at 10:53 PM
Mark is not a super Delegate

NLS,
I have been following this issue casually on the DemCon2008 site. I think it is misleading to count Terry McAuliffe as a "Virginia" Superdelegate. He has a vote by virtue of his status as former Party Chair, not as anything tied to Virginia.
Of course, the same could be said for Mame Reilly, as she has her vote as the Women's Caucus Chair. Nevertheless, she is at least active in the politics of the Commonwealth.

Mame has her vote as a National Committeewoman for Virginia.

It is wrong to count McAuliffe as from VA -- he is a NYer thru and thru and just happens to live here b/c he was DNC chair.
Also, Boucher is now endorsing Obama.
Finally, is McClellan's endorsement of HRC confirmed? I hadn't seen that publicized anywhere.

If you were forced at gunpoint to hit one of them, would it be Schottzie or Hillary?

I thought the Committeefolk were McClellan, Leaman, Swecker, and Spruill. The party website does indeed say that Reilly is a DNC rep, but it also does not indicate that McClellan is. My understanding is that there are 4 reps: 2 men and 2 women. If McClellan isn't a Committeewoman, why does she get a vote?
