The Virginia for Obama site has a link in the footer to the company that developed it: Vevo Designs. This link takes you to this. On the front right side of their site is a quote from Eddie Ratliff (of draft warner fame and va for obama): "Months ago, I began collaborating with James Leckenby of Vevo Designs, to build a top-notch website that would reflect well on the Obama Campaign. I will be collaborating on future projects with the company, to continue creating quality websites for presidential campaigns. Thanks from VirginiaForObama.com!"
But something is funny about this developer’s website… hmm lets look at the contact page:
What’s their address??? 1 Camberley Drive Brandon Durham United Kingdom DH7 8TD
The Virginia For Obama campaign OUTSOURCED their website to a company OVERSEAS. It’s bad enough that they don’t have volunteers doing it, but that they are paying a firm that isn’t even in the US.
Meanwhile, I see Hillary's Virginia campaign isn't having to go to the Brits to get a website and instead built one here in Virginia.
Perhaps someone needs to let Obama know about another war called the American Revolution...

anon 12:48,
The lunacy of fabricating and misrepresenting. Quite often in 92 pt. type.
The lunacy of grasping at silly straws like this like they have deep meaning.
The lunacy of taking a generally well respected blog of long standing and trashing it by shamelessly whoring for one particular campaign in a fashion that is completely juvenile as opposed to Ben's usually far more thoughtful approach.
The lunacy of making your favored campaign appear silly and desperate.
That lunacy.

Oops, these Italian loafers just in:
http://www.gallup.com/poll/104044/Gallup-Daily-Tracking-Election-2008.aspx
"PRINCETON, NJ -- Barack Obama has now cut the gap with Hillary Clinton to 6 percentage points among Democrats nationally in the Gallup Poll Daily tracking three-day average, and interviewing conducted Tuesday night shows the gap between the two candidates is within a few points. Obama's position has been strengthening on a day-by-day basis. As recently as Jan. 18-20, Clinton led Obama by 20 points. Today's Gallup Poll Daily tracking is based on interviews conducted Jan. 27-29, all after Obama's overwhelming victory in South Carolina on Saturday. Two out of the three nights interviewing were conducted after the high-visibility endorsement of Obama by Sen. Edward Kennedy and his niece Caroline Kennedy.
Clinton's lead in the three-day average is now 42% to Obama's 36%. John Edwards, who dropped out of the race Wednesday after Gallup conducted these interviews, ended his quest for the presidency with 12% support. Wednesday night's interviewing will reflect the distribution of the vote choice of former Edwards' supporters as well as the impact, if any, of Hillary Clinton's popular vote win in Florida on Tuesday.

Come on Ben - this is getting desparate. It's important to have the union bug on campaign materials, but the website production for a presidential campaign's state outfit (which is probably not controlled by the national folks) is completely insignificant. This is like saying that we shouldn't vote for Hillary because Bill got a degree in England (Rhodes scholar).

Nope, you're going on about delegate seating rules that were agreed to months ago, about web site production, and about every meaningless side-detail that people really don't give a crap about.
People DO give a crap about Iraq, the economy, health care, and leading our nation back to a position of respect while accomplishing a broad progressive agenda for change.

ARLINGTON FOR OBAMA!!
Subject: Arlington Dems Chair Endorses Obama for President
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 30, 2008
ARLINGTON DEMOCRATIC CHAIR ENDORSES OBAMA
Peter Rousselot, the Chair of the Arlington County Democratic Committee, has endorsed Barack Obama for President. Until John Edwards' suspension of his campaign for President today, Rousselot had been a senior Virginia advisor to the Edwards for President campaign and one of its leaders in the state. Rousselot also supported Edwards for President in 2004, and was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention that year.
"Barack Obama is a transformational figure in American politics who will lead us out of the poisonous partisan atmosphere that has crippled us at home and abroad", Rousselot said. "Barack Obama will lead the Democratic Party to victory in 2008. It's time to make the two Americas one."
"John Edwards and Hillary Clinton remain wonderful leaders of the Democratic Party, and each would be a great President", Rousselot continued. "Hillary Clinton's Presidential candidacy is an inspiration to women and men everywhere who long to see a superbly qualified Democrat like Hillary Clinton as our first woman President. Nevertheless, life often presents us with critical choices, and this is one of them. Now that my first choice, John Edwards, has withdrawn from the race, I am enthusiastically throwing my support to Barack Obama for President."
Peter Rousselot was first elected Chair of the Arlington County Democratic Committee in January 2006, and was unanimously re-elected to a second two-year term earlier this month. He got his start in politics on the national campaign staff of Robert Kennedy for President in 1968.

http://www.suntimes.com/news/marin/766215,CST-EDT-carol30.article
Good questions from the Chicago Sun Times:
• • Exactly how were the terms and timing arrived at that allowed Obama to buy the house at a $300,000 discount, while Mrs. Rezko paid full price?
• • Given that Rezko was already publicly known to be under investigation, what persuaded Obama to still deal with him?
• • When did Obama realize that Rezko, a low-income housing developer, had 11 failed properties in Obama's state Senate district alone? Or that Rezko was defaulting on taxpayer-funded deals at the same time he was still an Obama political benefactor?
This Rezko scandal is now getting the attention it deserves:
http://www.abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4215299&page=1
This is what CBS says:
Oh-Oh, Rezko: The Obama campaign has decided to give $70,000 in donations linked to indicted Chicago developer Tony Rezko to charity, according to the AP. That brings the total amount of Rezko-related donations given up by the campaign overall to almost $150,000.
Per the AP: "The campaign's timing for its announcement seemed designed to avoid major news coverage. It came as political attention was focused on Tuesday's Republican presidential contest in Florida. Earlier this month, the campaign announced it would give more than
$40,000 to charity on the same day as the Republican primary in South Carolina and the Nevada caucuses."
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/01/30/politics/horserace/entry3768843.shtml
Why are you supporting him, again? That vision thing?
The LA Times posits this issue -- (notice the money gap):
With the latest move, Obama will have given $149,985 in Rezko-related money to charity. Rezko, who was indicted in 2006 before the senator from Illinois launched his run for the White House, has given no money to Obama's presidential campaign.
The Los Angeles Times has identified $200,000 in donations from Rezko, his family members, company employees and other business associates. They date back to Obama's first run for the Illinois state Senate in 1996 and his unsuccessful 2000 congressional race.

Ben,
I've emerged from a long period of not following the blogs to say this.
This is among the most ridiculous posts I've ever seen. If you've really stooped to this point to boost up super-corporate establishment Hillary Clinton, who WILL lose the Virginia primary if its still a two horse race at that point, I have to wonder how relevent you are anymore.
Why do you like Hillary Clinton anyway? Do you have a particular penchant for NAFTA? Do you enjoy corporate greed? Is the DLC the best thing thats ever happened to the Democratic Party? I really just don't get it...

"It’s time for new leadership that understands that the way to win a debate with John McCain is not by nominating someone who agreed with him on voting for the war in Iraq; who agreed with him by voting to give George Bush the benefit of the doubt on Iran; who agrees with him in embracing the Bush-Cheney policy of not talking to leaders we don’t like; and who actually differed with him by arguing for exceptions for torture before changing positions when the politics of the moment changed.
We need to offer the American people a clear contrast on national security, and when I am the nominee of the Democratic Party, that’s exactly what I will do. Talking tough and tallying up your years in Washington is no substitute for judgment, and courage, and clear plans. It’s not enough to say you’ll be ready from Day One – you have to be right from Day One."

I'll give you a hint, its about polls
Posted by: Jon | January 30, 2008 at 06:36 PM
Now that my guy is out, I will be supporting Obama. He has a message of change and can win in November. However, unlike some of the people posting, I will make a dispassionate analysis of the political situation and not regurgitate talking points from Campaign Central.
Given McCain's implcation in the S&L scandal, I don't think we will be seeing too much about various financial scandals from anyone directly during this election. He was, after all, one of the Keating Six...
Hillary made a nice press move in Florida with a "victory party". It might distract a little attention from her getting creamed in South Carolina. However, with Edwards dropping out today, it will be interesting to see what Americans want in a two way race. Elections are about choices and the Democratic one is stark now. There really isn't time for the polls to digest SC and Edwards departure from the race. I think Tuesday will be a surprise. California is the big deal for Hillary. Obama has lots of little deals. Without a strong third candidate though, the likelihood of a brokered convention goes down.
PS - NLS won't tell you, but IO predicted the Davis departure first....

You know one thing occurred to me while reading the Kos take down on Hillary and this Florida crap:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/1/30/12551/1044/252/446229
Here's a quote:
"It's a bit pathetic seeing Hillary Clinton's campaign desperately trying to attach significance to her Florida "victory""
One thing that occurred to me is that this attempted bamboozlement probably has made the press even more cynical of the Clintons.
Which cant help in a close election.
Also note that Obama's national numbers start to rise around the 20th . . . is that when the CNN ad started running?
Posted by: Jon | January 30, 2008 at 07:18 PM
"Later Wednesday, Obama gave a 10-minute talk by live broadcast to a joint meeting in Atlanta of four historically black Baptist denominations, ...
'Pastors are pushing this movement forward,' Obama said of his campaign, 'and I need each and every one of you in this fight.'
He asked the audience to imagine what it would mean for the country to see him with his hand on the Bible, taking the presidential oath of office."
Ok, I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. Senator Obama this race isn't about you - and its not about you making history. What an egocentric prick. And its interesting that the Obama campaign can make these blatant race-based appeals for political support while claiming the Clintons are the ones who are interjecting race into the campaign?? What chutzpah! He is a total phoney - and is incapable of putting together a broad coalition necessary to win the general election. Obama = Buyer's remorse in November.
Posted by: John | January 30, 2008 at 07:57 PM
Turns out Obama's spiritial advisor, Jeremiah Wright, was instrumental in giving an award to Louis Farrakhan, who, according to a magazine published by Obama's church "truly epitomized greatness." First Rezko, and now Wright - I think Obama owes Democrats a more thorough explanation for his recurring questionable judgment in establishing these types of personal and professional relationships. The Clintons have been forced to defend every relationship under the sun; now its Senator Obama's turn ... otherwise the Republicans will only raise his questionable judgment for us in September and October.
He's not going to get a pass in the general - despite his clever use of labeling questions about his judgment or record as "the politics of division."
For those who actually want to avoid driving the Democratic party off a cliff ...

A great post from another blogger:
Obamalot or Obama's Lot
The similarities between Barck Obama and George W. Bush are frightening. And I suspect they would be frightening the electorate if the media were doing its job.
Remember George Bush in his flight suit under the sign the War Is Over? Contrast that with the recent dramatic endorsement of Senator Obama by Senator Kennedy and Caroline Schlossberg Kennedy in the nation's capitol. Equally scripted, both are dramatic scenes designed to seduce your eye and steal your heart before your head has a chance to say, "Hey."
Bush excelled at photo ops and slogans! So does Obamarama who plays the race card with a perfection that no modern candidate has ever dared. Leave out all the back and forth over Martin Luther King and Katrina and Jesse Jackson [who didn't understand all the kerfuffle] and consider this.
In South Carolina at rally after rally after rally in his stump speech Obama would intone:
"They're trying to bamboozle you. Don't let people turn you around because they're just making stuff up. That's what they do. They try to bamboozle you, hoodwink you. Lead you astray. Hoodwink you."
Obama repeated those lines frequently as he traveled around the state and they are right out of the Malcolm X speech in Spike Lee's biopicture. In that address which is full of blunt racial talk Malcolm warns blacks "You've been had. You've been took. You've been hoodwinked. Bamboozled. Led astray. Run amok." When asked about it, Robert Gibbs, Obama's communications director, said he did not know whether Obama was aware that he was echoing Malcolm X. And there you have it. Bush revisited.
Because Nobody says, 'Hey, wait a minute. Isn't that injecting race? Isn't that playing the race card? So no one came forward to ask,"if all those other incidents were the other party's fault, who's injecting race now, Mr. Obama?
The hints that Bush was a poor loser and unable to compromise were there early in the campaign, but the media in a rush to extoll him as the new guy on the block [compared to that old party hack, Al Gore] didn't pay them much attention.
We see similar signs now. Obama's rather snide comment in the debate that Hillary "was likeable enough" and now The Snub as it is being called when on a triumphant night for him in the US Senate he deliberately turned his back on Hillary and refused to shake her hand. This came after he refused to sit with her at the request of Democratic Party officials who wanted to show some unity. Mr. Obama is often childish and spiteful. How many times have those words been used about Bush?
And he plays dirty politics on a breathtaking scale much like his Republican role model, President Bush. Before Bush became President there were rumors about his role in the smear that John McCain had a black baby, that war hero Max Clellan,a quadriplegic from war injuries, was a coward and that Ann Richards, who he defeated for Governor of Texas, was a secret drinker. But nobody paid them much mind. And nobody much cared when he didn't answer questions he didn't like or when he didn't volunteer information that might prove embarrassing, even if it was the public's right to know.
Now we have the new guy on the block syndrome all over again. And the questions just aren't getting asked all over again, too. Rezbama has changed his story on newly indicted political fixer Anthony Rezko, his longtime political mentor, campaign contributor, and neighbor [oops I mean his side lawn] more times than I can count. In a national debate he literally refused to say the man's name. In a talk show last Sunday he got a few sentences out and then said he refused to talk about it anymore. He was closing the page on it. Remind you of anyone? It's been said his supporters act as if Obama is 'the second coming,' and I couldn't agree more, he is the second coming of George Bush.
Their political styles are eerily alike. He lies, changes his position, recants things he said if they prove embarrassing, lines up supporters based on his charisma and in general expects that charm not substance will carry the day. And he may be right. It did before.
Obama like Bush steals lines, arguments and positions from his opponent. One day you see Hillary articulating a well thought out position. The next day Obama parrots her position for the press in his voice. It is no accident that Edward Kennedy endorsed Obama with Hillary's signature line: 'someone who will be ready on day one.' This guy is so entitled he gets mad when Hillary comes up with something he likes. He should have it. And so he takes it.
He is also the candidate who is the insider, the beltway pol and the favorite of the party elite. But like Svengali, with the connivance of a friendly press, he is tarring Hillary with this brush. And voila! Before the press is finished with him, he is not a Harvard graduate with a nearly two billion dollar home backed by corporate money, lobbyist money and mob money flowing like champaigne into his war chest, but rather a have-not with a compelling personal story. So what if he claims relatives in Kenya who never heard of him, it is riveting tale and that is all that matters.
Axelrod is the new Rove. And the campaign Obama is running is Bush-Rove redux.
So with a press that will not do its job we are getting sold the same pile of horseshit and being told it is a nutritious and delicious dinner.

Ben, the Tom Davis news broke about 1PM today. A responsible Virginia political blog would have a front page post about such a significant event by now. It's nearly 11PM, I won't buy the argument you've been busy since then.
You've been too busy coming up with ridiculous and sometimes slanderous attacks against Senator Obama. Sure, supporting your candidate is fine, and you should do it. But you're doing it in such a way that is crass, infantile, and if you go any farther, could possibly get you sued. RK has been an example of how to support a candidate with class. Clearly, you wouldn't know class if it hit you across the face. Your insipid tirades not only make you look stupid, but they are getting in the way of responsible reporting on Virginia politics. So cut the crap and get back to doing what your readers expect you to do.

Oh I am sure it will get play by the GOP when Obama gets the nomination, just like the 5,000 dead skeletons in the Clintons closet would get play in the unlikely event Hillary gets the nomination.
But there is one difference with Obama, and why the truth sticks to him (ummmm, notice that this issue was brought up 2 weeks ago and it gets absolutely NO media play). That difference is that people like him and trust him.
Here's the thing you all do not understand the majority of Americans seem to like the guy.
Also, we did not lose 2000 or 04 because our candidates were not tough enough (Gore tour Bradley to pieces in the primary, and Kerry and team certainly played dirty with Dean) or we lost those elections because, GOD FORBID, because our candidates didn't talk enough about policy!
We lost because our candidates fundamental did not connect with THE VOTERS. The lacked the ability to articulate the values that governed the democratic party
Have you heard of George Lakoff?
Maybe you have, I dont know.

But if not I am sure you all will keep attempting to use your amazing interpersonal skills in trying to win voters.

Dan, I broke the Davis retirement days ago. Besides I was in Richmond all day.

Who made dan the spokesman for all the readers of this blog? I believe dan to be a bit full of himself when chastising someone about their own blog.
My response would be "shut up and sit down"
But hey, it's not my blog.
Personally I enjoy watching you liberals throw darts at each other
And when it is all over dan, jon, dimv and the rest of you obamaphiles will be lining up behind hrc like puppies in heat. Spouting a new hypocricy that I can't wait to hear.
Well, maybe I can...

I was not an Obama supporter until this morning. If HRC gets the nomination, I will work hard for her and support her, as that is my job as a member of my local Dem committee. I won't like it.
If Obama wins the nomination, will you support him Ben?

I'm pretty sure these little Barry vs. Hill fights are just entertainment to a handful of us. And the nasty Republican like attacks aren't even close to making a blip outside of this blog. And, of course, if I bash Hill over something, but she gets the nomination I'm going to point out how she is a saint like my mother!
FYI- props to Barry for the new tack he is taking- pointing out Hill's pro-war bridge to the 20th century. Niiice.

ummmm, hmmmmm, I wonder if I decide to support HRC in the general, if it will be anything like all the conservatives who will be swallowing their vomit and pulling the lever for McCain?
And by the way anyone watch the debate last night?
The "Mac" looked OLD! And tired.
Posted by: Jon | January 31, 2008 at 07:31 AM
Jon- I saw clips this morning and he didn't come across as very tired. Again, no matter what Rowhey may think, the Republican candidate really isn't going to matter much this year. It is going to be a 45-47 state electoral landslide for the ever so slightly left of center party this November.
Anyone catch what the current administration actually knows about the economy? It was on display yesterday- cut interest rates (so smart people can't save and the dollar gets another punch in the nuts- thanks!) and the market jumps and flails and closes down.
McCain will be talking all year about going to war against guys in speedboats who drive a little too close to our freaking Destroyers while more people lose their homes, their jobs, see their wages continue to stagnate. The general election is not even going to be a fight.

Holly crap!
All you Obama haters you have to concede that this is a political feat:
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/california/election_2008_california_democratic_presidential_primary
Everyone was saying that if Obama can hold HRC to 12 point lead he is doing Ok in CA.
BUT NOW ITS 3!!!!
EVEN IF HE LOSES CA, he is now close enough to come out of Supper Tuesday with essentially a delegate tie, maybe even a lead (hint he is moving in NY, too).
My goodness what do you think is going to start happening to all those supper delegates?
hmmmmm.
Posted by: Jon | January 31, 2008 at 08:23 AM
Settle down Jon. It's "Super" not "Supper". Supper is what the English have after Dinner. And we can't support those bastards or Ben will write a post about us.
Posted by: Doug | January 31, 2008 at 08:46 AM
ahhh, i'm bad at spelling. sue me. my mom still loves me.
And hey, I am just supporting my candidate, I thought we were all going over the top here?
Get it while the gettin's good.

"It is going to be a 45-47 state electoral landslide for the ever so slightly left of center party this November."
Doug, have you lost your friggin' mind...or are you just funnin' us? Aside from your usual corny antics, most of the time you aren't too far off the mark.
But, in this case, you seem to ignore all of the current polls -- and all of the pundits who acknowledge John McCain's strong appeal to independents.
On the issue of Federal Reserve, the last time I checked, the Board of Governors of the Fed is an independent governmental agency.
On the issue of foreclosures, we will see at least a few more months of difficulty. Foreclosures usually continue for a solid year after the housing market bottoms out. There is some evidence that the bottom was reached a few months ago.
As usual, Congress is always a day late and a dollar short with its tax rebate program.

This original thread seems to be a case of jumping the gun.
The VirginiaforObama.com site is not affilated with the Obama campaign.
It appears James (in Britian) made a simple error by using "for Barack Obama" as opposed to "in support of." That's all. It was probably a case of trying to shorten my original to fit into the space. When this came to my attention, James immediately made a correction on his site.

The question is - how long could a shark live out of water - ie before
it died because it can't breath in air?
Take a big great white shark as the example if you need to be specific
(though I won't insist on that).
