CREEPY OLD GUY COMING TO BLACKSBURG!!!
The Virginia Young Democrats convention is coming up this weekend! Every year at the Virginia Young Democrats Convention there are a few older attendees who, while technically not above the age limit, give off the vibe of 35 year old at a Hannah Montana concert. They’re not unwelcome… but they’re about as welcome as that lonely alumni trolling a college bar after a football game. You don’t want to tell them to leave – but you really don’t want them to stay either.
The person pictured above is doubly applicable – and since the convention is this weekend I wanted to give you all fair warning. He’s creepy because he’s both an aged member of the Arlington Young Democrats AND he’s a creepy alumnus of Virginia Tech returning to his alma mater to reminisce about his days of college glory – or something sad like that. His name is Brian Devine, and if he tells you he has puppies or candy in his car – it’s a trick.
Here are a few things that make him old and/or creepy:
* He has been out of college for like 5 years
* He tries to be cool by writing a blog
* He gets mad when college students reject his Facebook friend requests
* He has tried more than 3 online dating services
* He has never missed an episode of the Hills or A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila
and worst of all ... He loves Dane Cook.
I could continue the list, but this is a family blog and frankly – don’t have the space. If you happen to run into him pretend not to know who he is, kindly nod at what he says and then slowly turn away. And just to keep this interesting – NLS will post the funniest picture and/or story featuring Brian Devine from this weekend. So try not to laugh when you see him – just lead him on long enough to snap a funny pic and send it in.

dude. for someone who lives in his mother basement and is the same age as this guy you should be ashamed of yourself for using your blog as a soapbox to humiliate this character. You're a joke

Is this post a joke?

1) He's younger than me
2) I don't live in my mother's basement
3) You suck too.

Speaking of creepy old men why aren't you giving Bryan Spoon a shout out? He's been working his creepy old man magic on College Dem ladies for the past few conventions. Is he single? If so, perhaps the host committee should advise attendees on his age and tendencies towards the young college ladies.

This post is a joke. If Ben was serious, he would have posted about his longtime enemy Craig Fifer. Craig has been creepy at these events for almost ten years but he still comes every year like Eric Payne used to. Not surprisingly the old creepy guys who come to YD conventions never seem to get married.

Yipes, I'll hide the kids. And the wife. And the dogs.

Does half your age plus 8 still apply at these conventions?

What is this, Junior High?

Is it really ethical to attack a fellow blogger without provocation?. He tries to be cool by writing a blog? Ummmm Does he really need your approval to write a blog? this is over the top.

Devine works at NMS. I doubt this is much of an "attack".

Hell, you try to be cool by writing a blog. I am hoping that this is a joke on a friend of yours. If it isn't, I don't know what to say.

What a bullshit post Ben.
What the hell is wrong with having YDs stay in until they age out? The states who kept their YDs in until ageing out had more mentors and raised a helluva lot more $$ than the others.
I don't know the guy but think it's a shitty swipe @ Eric and a few others who support the mission of the VYD even though they are over the age limit.
When I was in the VYDs I wished we had YDs of ALL ages.
Stop attacking Democrats!

Okay people, let's just remember that Ben does have a sense of humor. While there might be some issues worth examining behind the content of this post (at what age should you no longer be considered a young Dem), I think Ben is just having a good time here.

I have a funny story- I gave Brian Devine five dollars and he gave me an HJ in the men's room of a Denny's in Fredericksburg. Har har.

The funniest thing about this post is the people who don't understand that Ben's "punking" a good friend.
Posted by: | March 27, 2008 at 06:18 AM
This is disgusting.
Posted by: | March 27, 2008 at 06:49 AM
Yeah, it is so obvious that Ben is "punking" him. Just like he "punks" Gerry Connolly, Dave Marsden and Pothead Obama, his three great friends.
A better post today would be about Hillary's trip to Bosnia, but I haven't seen that here. Instead we are here discussing Ben either mocking a friend or making a vicious personal attack.

"Interested Observer" must be a creepy old guy himself, given how defensive he is of creepy old guys.

".... but this is a family blog..."
That probably explains why you posted the story about Lionel's dangling balls bill!
Posted by: BigDog | March 27, 2008 at 08:53 AM
Notice how most of the people who don't get the joke are conservatives?

Remind me not to piss you off, Ben. ;-)

Brian is not that old by arlington young democrats standards
Posted by: | March 27, 2008 at 09:55 AM
The post is pretty funny -- because it's all in good fun, people!! -- but the comments are priceless.

Ben and Brian used to work together I think, but I think they had a falling out. Probably due to Ben's constant shilling for Hillary or Leslie I bet. Honestly, is anyone surprised that Ben would do this to an old coworker who was probably one time his friend? I'm not.

Why is Dane Cook shaded in blue? Is he a Democrat? I'm not sure if there's room in the same party for the two of us.
