Amy Sucks (Part 60 of Gerry Sucks)

Lowell has the scoop on the awful article by Amy Gardner this morning in the Washington Post.

I might be able to shed a little more light on this.  Last year (when Amy was writing articles very biased towards Jeannemarie Devolites Davis) she went downtown for a morning speech Tom Davis was giving.   A friend of mine who is also a reporter was at her table.  Amy was talking to someone else at the table saying "Jeannemarie was going to win big".  My friend interrupted and asked what planet she was on.  Amy swiveled around and demanded to know his sources because all of her sources were telling her Jeannemarie was going to win.   She was literally outraged that it was even up for discussion.

As you all know, Jeannemarie went on a few weeks later to lose by a larger margin than any other Republican incumbent in State Senate history.

So now, as campaign 2008 gets underway, Amy is once again touting the Davis candidate- this time Gerri Devolites-Connolly.  Connolly and Davis are one political organization, with numerous similar donors, similar issues and similar "pay to play" styles.  And apparently they have the same reporters in their back pocket too.

Amy Gardner is one of the laziest and most incompetent reporters the Washington Post has ever put on the Northern Virginia political beat.

She doesn't ask any questions, accepts what she's told, doesn't dig, and her biases come through in every story she writes.

I wish the Washington Post would give Northern Virginia the respect it deserves and put a more qualified reporter on its major races.

does your friend have a name?

Amy Gardner is by far the worst reporter in Virginia, DC or Maryland. Biased, lazy, incompetent, awful.

Maybe she sucks as a reporter but she sure can sing!

If NLS had as many readers as the Post did, maybe it wouldn't be so important that Amy did this. But it doesn't. A whole bunch of voters in the 11th know what Gerry's about now because of Amy Gardner. Why don't you take a deep breath and calm the fuck down?

Amy Gardner doesn't get to pick and choose all of what she write about, if her editors don't want it she can't really do it. They're the ones who make the choices, not her. Maybe she didn't run a 60 part series on Gerry sucking (not like there wasn't enough material for it), but she made him look like a fraud and did it in a way that practically everyone who's going to vote can see.

What does Leslie Byrne do for work? All we ever hear is that she is a small business woman.

Wow, so this is what happens to people who agree with you, NLS. For the first time, Gardner is covering the real Gerry Connolly, and just when people are really starting to pay attention to the race. This is great for Leslie, no matter what her angle is. Chill out please.

Did you guys see the end: ""I'm in the middle of a campaign trying to have a conversation with voters," Connolly said. "I oppose the war. I have thought it was folly from the word go. Everyone who knows me knows that's true." Yeah, so you didn't feel the need to tell anyone else about it? I think Amy Gardner did a good job with this article – hopefully she'll keep it up!

I think anyone who knows GC is going to laugh their asses off at this article, especially where he starts talking about not doing what's best for his employer and about how much he's against no-bid contracts. I can't wait to read what Amy Gardner writes next – this one wasn't perfect, but she's finally going in the right direction.

11:04 – biased? Read the first two paragraphs, she's practically calling him a war criminal. Yeah, I'm sure that GC's people are just thrilled about Amy writing this article, they're probably calling her to thank her right now. If they ever talk to her again, which I'm betting they won't. Amy is making Gerry look really, reaLly bad here, and she's actually started to give this story the attention it deserves. Maybe you want to give her a little credit for writing this when no one else is besides NLS and RK. Not so lazy to me…

Why did Gerry feel it necessary to bring Kate and her son into the article. Very unfeeling.

"Connolly's Job with Contractor Complicates Race." Front page of the Metro section. This is REALLY GOOD NEW GUYS. Could we go back to bashing Gerry instead of Amy Gardner? She did her job, maybe a little late but she did it.

If the WaPo endorses in this race, I bet it endorses Connolly.

Two years ago, when the WaPo not only endorsed Davis over Hurst, but treated Hurst like a non-entity, I cancelled my 20+ year subscription.

I haven't really missed it, but if the WaPo endorses Byrne in the primary, I will resubscribe.

Yeah, I'm not sure I can share in the righteous indignation here. Is Amy the best reporter they got down there at the Post? No, but what is she supposed to say here, Ben? Regardless of her abilities, Amy is a reporter, not a columnist who can run a 60-part series about how she doesn't like GC. I can imagine GC is fuming over this article, and believe it or not he's probably much more worried about fallout from this article than your 60-part series, so you should send Amy a fruit basket or something...

NLS Sucks. Part 1.

Hits for this blog must be in the toilet.

I used to log on here several times a day.

Now, it's maybe once or twice a week.

If anyone needs a lesson in how to complete destroy blog readership, just tune in here.

NLS must be the only political personality in America who lies more than Barack Obama.

You're a laughingstock.

HOLY SHIT NLS IS ATTACKING SOMEONE BIG STORY. The Post just came as close as ever to calling Gerry Connolly a war criminal, they let Leslie Byrne call him a hypocrite, and people are talking about it. The comments on the article don't seem to think Amy did such a horrible job… http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/15/AR2008051503676_Comments.html

gardener reported on the jobs of connely, alexander and deneny. Gerry seems to do PR for one of the largest companies in the country, doug sells warships for Boeing, lori is into Physical Therapy.

It is clear that Byrne doesn't have a job-she never has had a real job unless it is one of the few times she didn't lose an election.

it is also clear that Kaine will not be picked as Obama's VP because of of Byrne. she lost the LG race despite Kaine as a strong candidate at the top of the ticket.

Kaine cannot turn Va with redistricting coming up over to Bolling who easily beat Byrne for LG.
