Gerry Connolly Sucks, Part FIFTY (50)
As many of you know- Blueweeds is the husband of Falls Church Mayor Robin Gardner. So he knows what he is saying when he says:
"Falls Church City Mayor Robin Gardner has made numerous official and unofficial requests for information to Fairfax County officials on behalf of the Cornejo family. Fairfax Supervisor, and current candidate for the 11th CD Democratic nominee nod, Gerry Connolly has never responded to, or even acknowledged, any request from the major or other Falls Church City officials."
---------------------------------------
Three years after a murder Gerry won't even RESPOND to another head of local government asking what is going on with the case and why the person convicted in civil court hasn't even been charged in criminal court?!?!
I would say Gerry is a disgrace to Fairfax. But really he is a disgrace to humanity. The family of this victim is in a lot of pain- and Gerry doesn't even have the compassion to give them a response.

Ben, you and Leslie are a disgrace to Democrats.

Yay, Part 50! The Golden Jubilee of the "Gerry Sucks" series!

"Three years after a murder Gerry won't even RESPOND to another head of local government asking what is going on with the case and why the person convicted in civil court hasn't even been charged in criminal court?!?!"
Last I checked, the Chairman of a Board of Supervisors doesn't prosecute criminal cases. That would be the Commonwealth's Attorney's job.
And from the link: "[...] concealed a gun he had purchased but registered in his girlfriend's name".
There's no gun registration in Virginia.

And despite this horrible crime happening three years ago and Gerry's lack of responsiveness, you still voted for him last November, didn't you? Now why is that?
Also, please tell us if you plan to vote for Gerry for Congress should he win the Democratic Party nomination in the 11th District.

If it is OK for you to try and link Gerry Connolly to this case, when Connolly has no authority over the courts, then it is OK to link you, this blog, and your unsubstantiated attacks to Leslie Byrne.
Your relationship with the Byrnes is well known. You even get inside information, like the copy of Byrne's mailing with no union bug you displayed on this blog. You bragged that it was a pre-production design copy of the brochure.
Commonwealth Attorney Ray Morrogh (and before him Robert Horan) have jurisdiction over the issue. Connolly and the Board of Supervisors have nothing to do with court cases.
You know this, but you launched this latest false smear, anyway. Typical.

Unless everyone who comments on this page is ready to announce who they vote for each time they go behind the curtain, that question needs to stop being asked of Ben.

The Fairfax Couny Auditor (inspector general) reports to Gerry Connolly. The Auditor has the authority to review actions taken or not taken by the County Commonwealth Attorney ... and a request to the Auditor from the the County Board Chairman is the correct chain of command to request information without compromising a possible criminal investigation. Connolly received the request from Falls Church officials and ignored it.

Equally shocking is this is going on between local governments and the Washington Post is ignoring it.

Uh, Mike, Commonwealth's Attorneys are constitutional officers and do not answer to a lowly Board of Supervisors.
And as I started above, Virginia does not have gun registration as reported in your post on the topic.

The County Auditor has the authority to independently investigate and report back to the BOS on all programs and services run in the county. A County employee actually advised Falls Church where to direct their request within the County. The Auditor has broad inquiry authority over the Fairfax County CAO and its investigators who are County employees.
But even pretending you're right for moment, if elected officials from a neighboring jurisiction accidently mis-directed a request for information on the controversial killing of a young unarmed kid, are you really suggesting it was, uh, "okay" for the BOS Chair to just sit back and smugly ignore it? Is that really good enough government for you? Because I think it sucks.
The registration issue was part of the sworn evidence brought forward in the civil trial ... I am away from my info at the moment and forget whether the registration issue concerned a CHP or an NFA34 weapon permit. In any event, the factoid you've raised is really beside the point of my post and the post here at NLS ... which is really focused on the complete ineffectiveness of Fairfax County in addressing the issues raised in the Steve Cornejo killing.

Mike, you are a great writer. Smugly is exactly the right word there.

"The Auditor has broad inquiry authority over the Fairfax County CAO and its investigators who are County employees."
The Commonwealth's Attorney's Office (CAO) employees ARE NOT COUNTY EMPLOYEES.
The CAO may get some money from the county, but the majority comes from the State Compensation Board. Further, the county cannot dictate what the CAO does, they simply give the CAO money, and the CA hires the personnel that serve as the pleasure of the CA.
Further, a conceal handgun permit simply states that the person can carry any conceal handgun. It does not specify a specific gun.

WOC, I respectfully disagree with you. SInce Ben has devoted over 50 posts to criticizing Gerry Connolly for actions he had taken in his first term as BOS Chairman, it is only fair to ask Ben why he voted to re-elect Gerry.

So.... Is this also Ray Morrogh Sucks Part 1?
Posted by: | May 08, 2008 at 03:21 PM
Mike@Blueweeds,
Does you wife Robin have the power as mayor to tell the Arlington commonwealth attorney, who covers Falls Church, what to do? I don't think so.
If she does have that power, why didn't she make an inquiry to the Fairfax Commonwealth Attorney through the commonwealth attorney who covers your city?
Word is that Fairfax CA Ray Morrogh did speak to the family, but the family didn't like the answer.
It is disappointing to see you reaching into the gutter to join Ben Tribbett's web of lies. We thought you were better than that.

From what I've heard, Mayor Gardner DID make the request to the Commonwealth Attorney. And I'm sure she would have mentioned if the Cornejo family met with Mr. Morrogh as wouldn't it be customary to let an official in a surrounding jurisdiction know that their request was addressed?

I agree that this case is an open wound and, hopefully, we haven't heard the last of it. Gerry doesn't need me to put words in his mouth or thoughts in his head but I can't help thinking that his refusal to respond may be the result of legal advice.
