What Happens When Gerry Connolly Gets on Email

In Part 3 of Gerry Connolly Sucks, we featured what I think is the lowest moment of Gerry's time in office. When a police officer was shot and killed in Fairfax, Gerry released the name of the officer on the news- BEFORE THE FAMILY AND OTHER OFFICERS WERE NOTIFIED.  The Washington Post wrote this:

"Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly identified the slain officer, but The Washington Post has decided not to release the name at this time."

As many of you know, that's why this graphic of Gerry as a media whore was made.  But there is nothing funny about his actions that day.

One reader of Daily Whackjob sent this note to the Chairman after this incident:

"I will remember your desire for the media attention the next time I vote.  I can’t believe you would confirm that a female detective at that station had been killed.  How many females work there, did her family already know??? How sad that they might hear this news from you rather than a member of the police community.  You should know better.  Well you got your name out there, but I hope that everyone remembers the callous way that you achieved it! From a sad, disgusted voter."

Which brought this response from Gerry himself on email- one of the few times people can actually see in writing how he treats people:

"There are not words to describe how sickening I find your email to be.  One officer is dead, and another remains hospitalized in critical condition.  And you want to cavil about statements made to the press - statements which were designed to end wild rumors and baseless speculation, and to reassure the public.  That’s my job.

Shame on you.

Folks, we are dealing with a real threat here.  This is someone who will intentionally give out the name of a dead police officer before their family and other officers have even been notified.  And when he is called out for it... well you can see the email to see how he reacts.  This isn't just pathetic, it is sick, it is twisted and yes- it is evil.

This "Gerry Sucks" series reminds me of the Larry Holmes v. Randall "Tex" Cobb fight.

Holmes kept punching Cobb in the face, beating it to a bloody pulp. And Cobb kept standing there getting the shit kicked out of him.

This post (chapter 41) is one I remember well. Gerry's behavior that day was about as low as I have ever seen from an elected official. I don't agree with either of these two on any issues (aside from covering trucks on highways - Leslie), but at least with Leslie you get someone who will debate the issues, and even if she is hard-nosed, she's not abusive of anyone (ala Gerry) and I've never known her to run around misrepresenting (is that polite enough?) what other people say or do in the public arena... OR, relevant to this post, use tragedy's for political advantage at the cost of the families and communities involved. Ugh.
