Growl!

As a self-described sane Republican, I view this as very bad for the party. The inmates are running this asylum now. It's official.

Pat from Woodbridge

I will not hold my breath wait for Fredrick to give up his seat any time soon He has even before the convention hedging to the point that he was quoted in either the Post or the Potomac News(I forget which one) stating that he might wait til end of his term and not seek re-election.

From what I read he had committed not to run for reelection. Nowhere did I see him say he would give up his seat

Not Larry Sabato

The chances of Republicans holding that seat are even smaller in a general election than a special.

As opposed to the whiny, "arrogant, obnoxious ass" that is helping Leslie Byrne.

i cant believe the obama camp wants voters in fla. to count as 1/2 of a person.

Of all people

Jeff has said to some he wants his wife Amy to run for his seat.

I can see the argument for taking the Florida primary at face value, but those arguing for the MI Soviet election to be taken at face value are Clinton hacks.

J. Tyler Ballance

Jeff Frederick showed that he is indeed a superb campaigner in this successful bid for the GOP Chairmanship.

It was a classy move for John Hager to move for the vote to be by acclamation. Some said that the margin was huge, but John's good sportsmanlike behavior serves as a great example to the various factions and their candidates in future races and renders the actual tally a moot point.

Mark this date on your calendars. This will be remembered as the day that the GOP in Virginia turned onto a new path; a path towards an inclusive, energized Party that attracts great candidates and an energized base of citizens who come from all parts of our our society.

As for NLS, the civilized thing to do would be to congratulate Jeff on his victory. It doesn't make any sense to be needlessly crass or rude to Jeff.

Jeff is a fine man, a wonderful husband to Amy and a great Dad for his little girl. You will never meet a more sincere, thoughtful person. He is also a fierce competitor who tempers his drive with impeccable ethics and strong sense of fairness.

Criticize the stands on issues as you like, but to characterize Jeff in slanderous terms is both patently false and an affront to those who choose to read your blog.

As we head into the final phase of this election cycle, let us debate and discuss the issues, without rancor toward our fellow citizens who have been willing to step forward and lead.

Well, for Clinton people "rules are rules" until they work against Clinton goals. That's the Bushshit we've dealt with for 8 years, and it's time to bring it to an end.

6:33 - Knock it off! You are neither clever nor subtle. Implying this equation is stupid, condescending and insulting.

Guess this means the American Flag painted Cross will come off the wall in Jeff's GAB office?

"He is also a fierce competitor who tempers his drive with impeccable ethics and strong sense of fairness."

Oh really? You obviously have never spoken to anyone that Jeff has hounded for a political contribution - ask any lobbyist about his so called 'ethics'.

J-Fred is PRECISELY the type of "Go-Getter" needed to lead a party out of the wilderness and into the promised land.

Conservatives are gleeful.

I was not a supporter of Frederick's, but it was very clear from a broad cross section of the party that they rank-and-file wanted change. Hager, a good man, was status quo while Frederick was change. Plus Frederick said what the rank-and-file wanted to hear -- he was going to put them in charge instead of the "top-down" approach by which our last couple of chairman had been selected.

The question now is whether Frederick can institute the change he promises without being a petty, self-serving tyrant. If he can do that he will usher in a new day for the state GOP.

"6:33 - Knock it off! You are neither clever nor subtle. Implying this equation is stupid, condescending and insulting."

You will have to deal with many truths as this election moves forward. If these things embarrass you upset you, consider the reason.

10:38 - Nothing you say embarrasses or upsets me but you are an irritant. The public will make a decision on the merits, not on the bile you spew from your hate-Obama websites and internet sites.

Not John S. Mosby

Hahahaha, yeah, the RPV needs to attract new members, so they elect this arrogant, egotistical, condescending vile creature as their new leader. Yeah, he'll really draw'em in!

dems4dems,

I would suggest that you should not be embarrassed or upset by things that are said.

However, I would hold nothing against you for being embarrassed about the apparent democrat choice for president.

What a disaster.

Did RPV need a change in direction? Absolutely. The party was a non-entity in the '07 elections beyond being an efficient pass-through for mail money. I defy anyone to point to something concrete that RPV did of its own accord that made any difference in any race.

That being said, Jeff Frederick is just an awful choice to move forward. I'm not sure what planet J. Tyler Ballance is visiting with his comments about Jeff (ethics? fairness? Jeff Frederick? C'mon), but I think it says a lot that the majority of his colleagues had no interest in Jeff being Chairman. In fact, I suspect that a significant majority of the RPV Executive Committee and the RPV State Central Committee opposed Jeff. Is he prepared to reach out to them, prove them wrong, and win their confidence? Or is he going to engage in petty fights to prove who is in charge?

Jeff is a very hard-working campaigner. Of that there's no doubt. It's no accident that he's able to hold a pretty tough seat. But being a hard-working campaigner isn't all of what being chairman of RPV is about.

Take raising money. Jeff crows about all the money he's raised. But look at the vpap report. He's gotten a big chunk of it from one donor, Dave Rensin. The rest of it comes from PACs, a couple of local donors and party committees/other Delegates. The PACs aren't going to give that money to him at RPV. If they wouldn't do it for Hager (who had a lot more connections in that world), why would they do it for Frederick when they don't have to? There are no big businesses on Jeff's report other than those that have PACs. There are no big donors there other than Rensin and Paul Jost (who's moved to Florida). Jeff doesn't have the juice to go in to those big donors. And the PACs have never given to RPV before and they sure as hell won't give now to Jeff who hounds them and makes them nuts.

But worse, Jeff is all about Jeff. Will Jeff really use this as an opportunity to build a 50%+1 party or will he use this as a way to stroke his ego? I'm betting the latter. Will Jeff work to help all GOP candidates, regardless of ideological background or will he spend his time settling scores and helping his handful of friends? Again, I'm betting on the latter. Will Jeff present a vision for victory that inspires Virginians or will he focus on smirky, childish, BS stunts like in the infamous Pink Panther video? Once more, I'm betting on the latter. I hope I am proven wrong, but I suspect I won't be.

As a Republican, I hope like hell that Jeff finally matures into a real party leader who can move the GOP forward to a true majority, not someone who uses litmus tests to see who should and should not be allowed in his own special "he-man woman-hater's club." But for now, consider me very skeptical. Jeff Frederick has A LOT to prove to those that know him best.

Jeff Frederick never said that he would give up his seat if elected RPV chair. He said he wouldn't run again.

Here's his quote:

"Dear Fellow Virginia Republican:

From the very beginning of my campaign for Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV), I have recognized the day may come when I would need to demonstrate my commitment to the well being of the Party as a whole, even at the expense of my own political career.

....

After careful consideration of their opinion, those of others, and much prayer, I have decided that I will not seek re-election to the House of Delegates if I am elected RPV Chairman. This is something I have considered for some time and have not been opposed to, but the Cobb/Malek/Neel letter articulated the issue well, and I agree."

This blog really does make it up as it goes along.

Amy is going to run for this seat and that is why he is not resigning this year. Royse may try to convince folks eitherwise but Jeff has RPV chair will have his way.

Look for a very competitive Democratic primary for the chance to take on Amy next fall. I hear there are a few folks already looking at running there.

I hate Jeff Frederick

I HATE JEFF FREDERICK!
As a republican, he is everything that is wrong with the party. And I told him so in an email.

t

Yeah, you probably didn't have the balls to sign your name to that e-mail either tough guy.

just listening to a speach from obama.. the guy is so out of touch he thinks he is running against bush. I knew he was a bit goofy but I thought he, at least, knew who he was running against.

Oh well, what to expect from a man who does not even know how many states there are in the USA.

Too bad conservatives don't understand that the current group of so-called conservatives running the GOP, idiots like Jeff Frederick, have so degraded the conservative "brand", that it is no longer an advantage to be known as a conservative. What conservative means to most voters now is arrogant, incompetent, narrow minded, bigot.

It beats being known as self centered, egotistical, America hating, ignorant, elitist, racist, apologist, ignorant, and small minded little children playing in a mans world.. I can tell you now how this song ends. You crying in your rooms, playing with Mr. potato head.

Practice this mantra until you have it down:
we did our best, we should have won, those people just do not understand…….

Keep it up over and over it will make you feel better after you lose the election.. Because I know you are not old enough to take the personal responsibility and accept that the defeat is of your own making. So practice the mantra: Practice the Mantra:
