Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben... I'm very disappointed. Only 72 point font? Only 19 exclamation points? I could have thought you could easily do at least 100 pt. font and 30-40 exclamation points. You can do better.

They both should go to prison for being pro-aborts.
And Sean, do not use the Lord's Name in vain.

There are few groups as foul smelling as the degenerates of Emily's List.
I never used to like Gerry, but if the sadists from Emily's List oppose him, he simply CANNOT be THAT bad.
t SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAKS
Posted by: t | May 29, 2008 at 12:19 AM
So if Gerry is indicted after he is nominated what would happen?
Posted by: | May 29, 2008 at 12:41 AM
Under that scenario, Fimian wins.
Sounds like a plan!
Posted by: t | May 29, 2008 at 12:43 AM
I agree with "t" that abortion is bad, in fact, the only one I have ever been in favor of, is the one his mother chose not to have.

byrne is a bitch in that article.
once again, "No Issues Byrne" stirring the pot of uselessness while people are desperate for solutions to help them in their real lives about healthcare, the economy and other issues.
Posted by: | May 29, 2008 at 12:55 AM
Other issues like war profiteering?
A campaign finance violation is a campaign finance violation.
However, the violation aside, voters should be concerned that Connolly has the backing of a firm like SAIC. What if Boeing sent out fliers, or any other multi-national corporate war machine?
Connolly is a sleaze-ball and he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar--AGAIN!
Posted by: | May 29, 2008 at 01:13 AM
there is no f*cking war profiteering. companies are out there trying to protect our troops with the latest technology and other needs that only the private sector can provide.
would byrne and ben rather our troops not be taken care of or have what they need to fight a war? the war will not change until a new president takes over.
this may be too nuanced for byrne supporters to understand. we are are at war -- a misguided war. and while we're there, we sure as hell better protect our troops and give them what they need. american companies step in and fill this need. companies like northrup gruman, saic, and others.
yes, are they making money?
of course.
but until there's a new president/commander in chief, we have to support our troops.
they're out there dying so ben can use his f*ucking stupid 96-point font and dumbass toupee alerts.
the least that can be done is to provide them what they need. the most that can be done is to get them out of there, but again, a president has to make that call.
so gerry and thousands of others work for companies whose portfolios include protecting american troops.
since when is that a crime?
again, too nuanced, but as a country, we're in a mess because of bush, but we absolutely have to support our troops.
i guess byrne doesn't share that concern. she and her minions just like to around screaming "war profiteering" "war profiteering" like stupid parrots who don't understand what the hell is going on.
many of us will be glad when she goes back into her hole, never to be heard from again. maybe she can find a real job instead of perpetually running for office ... and, of course, losing.
June 11 will be a harsh day in the byrne home.

Hey asshole, I mean anon 1:39...
WAR PROFITEERING is not patriotism. War profiteering is getting rich off of a war. To suggest that Leslie Byrne or any of her supporters are not patriotic is just plain imbecilic.
There are many, many companies out there working as vendors to the Pentagon that are not considered war profiteers. However, SAIC is not one of them, just like Haliburton, Blackwater, and MZM aren't.
It is a shame you DINO's cannot just come out call her a "liberal" isn't it?
Posted by: | May 29, 2008 at 03:15 AM
We need a Truman Commission just to look into Connolly and SAIC.
Posted by: | May 29, 2008 at 06:10 AM
The poster at May 29, 2008 at 12:55 AM calls Leslie Byrne a "bitch." Are Connolly supporters thugs AND misogynists?

make yourselves as bald as the eagle,

Yes, by ALL MEANS, ban t - and watch readership plummet by 80%.
Yes, ignore the FACT that many tune in to t for contemporary Biblical precepts that provide a LIGHT in the darkness of liberal claptrap.
Yes, ban one of the most consequential and eloquent pro-life voices of our time, further frustrating and infuriating your burgeoning pro-life constituency.
Oh yes, ban t - and endure the consequences!

I really like Leslie personally. I have met her, I have talked with her, I believe she may even know my name. If I lived in the 11th District, I would vote for her. However, your CONSTANT, OVERWEENING, and BITTER denunciations of Gerry Connally are so over the top, I am tempted to send him a donation, and I almost hope he will win. Thank God for Leslie that so few actual voters read this. If a majority of the 11th district folk bothered to read this screed, Gerry would win going away. Your negative crap is an albatross around Leslie Byrne's neck, and if actually read will probably be a major cause in her possible defeat. Good God, give it a break, you small mean jerk. Shout outs to Ginterparked and Jimby.

Do not use the Lord's Name in vain NFH.
Ben is the trusted host of this venerable blog, and takes seriously his responsibility to educate the discerning voting public.
Ben is not to be rebuked by sensitive liberals who have a limited tolerance for vigorous debate.

Is this even a felonious offense?
Posted by: Church Hill Dem | May 29, 2008 at 08:28 AM
No. This would not be considered a felony or otherwise.
First, soliciting support within companies is common--so long as it is not over-reaching. This happens all the time.
Even if the SAIC exec was found in the wrong, it would be turned over to Justice for review of that exec's behavior. Not Gerry.
Ironically, the Emily's list issue is a BIG campaign violation, if true. Candidates, in this case Leslie, could face a $1,000 to 10,000 fine and Emily's list could face a fine and be reviewed by Justice.
The Emily's list should be a serious worry to the campaign, and the article makes it seem that Leslie all-but admited to the accusation. NOT GOOD.
Posted by: anon 12:12 am | May 29, 2008 at 08:57 AM
If I were Gerry I too would file a complaint against Emily's List and Leslie.
I used to be a supporter of hers until she and Ben went over the top on SAIC. I know for a fact they have lost a number of votes because of her mailings against defense contractors.
Posted by: | May 29, 2008 at 09:27 AM
Yes, Ben is right. This is a felony.
Posted by: | May 29, 2008 at 09:30 AM
You know with all the crap that is going its a good time to remember there are two other candidates running
I have gotten so much junk in my mail box and I even get calls to my cell phone from the big two.
Enough is Enough the people of the 11th deserve better

So how many toupees when Byrne's campaign gets hit with a huge violation for their coordination with Emily's List?
Posted by: | May 29, 2008 at 09:46 AM
I called the Byrne campaign last week trying to get a scan of the Emily's List mail- they didn't have it and they didn't have a contact point there. There's no coordination.
Meanwhile Boss Connolly is not only trying to intimidate his co-workers into donating by having the boss email out to them- but asking them to donate because he supports SAIC's positions (pro-war).
Posted by: Not Larry Sabato | May 29, 2008 at 10:00 AM
Would you all, for crying out loud, please calm down.
I have to pipe up and say that this type of sensationalism is not helping the case, in my opinion.
Leslie is simply the better choice to represent the 11th--plain and simple. She's experienced, an integrous progressive, and knows the ropes.
You don't need to make ridiculous claims, over-exaggerate people's associations, or get ridiculously excited to support the case for Byrne.
Posted by: Doug in Mount Vernon | May 29, 2008 at 10:41 AM
"integrous progressive"
Sounds like queer talk to me.
Yup.
Posted by: Grapes | May 29, 2008 at 10:49 AM
I predict Leslie will announce her campaign for Gerry's job of Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on June 11.
Oh, but that would require a grasp of real issues...must be some truck somewhere in Fairfax that needs a cover.
Then again, she and Ben can just go after Sharon Bulova with personal attacks for 6 months. Oh yeah, he already started that! You heard it from the donkey's mouth first! Byrne for Board Chairman!! If it worked for Tom and Gerry, good enough for me!
Posted by: Donkey Breath | May 29, 2008 at 10:59 AM
The Emily's list stuff is hilarious. "Coordination with Emily's List" is the same charge Al Wynn made against Donna Edwards just a few months ago when she took him out in the primary.
Just further evidence that Gerry Connolly is about to go the way of Al Wynn. How desperate and pathetic they must be to attack Emily's List.
For anyone who is wondering, the bar for proving coordination is pretty high. Claiming that the words "Pay to Play" is evidence of coordination is such an egregious and eronious use of the facts that we all ought to question whether Connolly is really ready to represent anyone in Congress.

You gotta like how the Post ran the story about the new FBI public corruption push in NOVA adjacent to the SAIC-Gerry story. I bet Gerry noticed.

Not Frank Hargrove,
The way I remember it, Albatross was a ship's good luck until some idiot killed it. Yes I've read a poem. try not to faint.
(bonus points for recognizing the quote)

I'll ask again since you deleted the first one:
How many toupees will be posted when Byrne gets fined for her campaign's cooperating with Emily's List?
Posted by: | May 29, 2008 at 01:26 PM
Not deleted, just second page.
Posted by: | May 29, 2008 at 01:51 PM
Dear Not Ben Tribbit, I should have said: "Your negative crap is A DEAD albatross around Leslie Byrne's neck". How self-indulgent it is to quote oneself! Love, Not Frank Hargrove.
Posted by: Not Frank Hargrove | May 29, 2008 at 08:15 PM
NHF, Actually the quote was from the Movie Serenity, I don't believe in self indulgence, I think the democrats have that front covered w/ Gerry Connolly. But if you didn't recognize a quote from a Coleridge poem i guess it would be foolish of me to expect you to recognize a quote from a movie.
I apologize to everyone for overestimating NHF's cultural knowledge, I'm sorry.

Anyone who took high school English in the US knows where the albatross reference comes from. Thank you for stating the obvious, as well as denigrating my "cultural knowledge". Sorry that you assumed I was some ignorant rube. I guess your Ivy League/Prep School education allows you judge others' body of intellect based on a brief blog entry. Jean Dixon had nothing on you. You should become a mentalist on the vaudeville circuit.

Several Emily's List staff members are working at the Byrne campaign office.
Isn't this coordination?
