I thought Waldo's post was great. I too wonder how many of the so called upper class are drug addled either by prescription or beverage of choice. Do we really need them in positions of responsibilty?
The item of Allen's was not so heinous except that when the word "heritage" pops into the coversation. Heritage is a favorite code word of those of the south who long for the good old days before the "war between the states."
I have no doubt that when George Allen uses the term "heritage" he wants to evoke a sentimental feeling for the good times of all eras in the minds of voters.
As a Life Member in the Sons of Confederate Veterans, when some politician talks of heritage, the image that most of our members share is of patriotism during all pivotal eras of our history. SCV members know that the Confederacy had members of all races and creeds serving in our army; Black, White, Indian, Spanish, Christians and Jews.
When most SCV members, and most other Americans hear the term, heritage, we think of that which was good about our roots, as well as the lessons we have learned from our history.
The problem is that too many Republicans like George Allen are always talking about the past and have NO ideas about how to pave the way to a prosperous future. That is why it is clear to me that we are at a crossroads; where Republicans can remain the same and lose, or change with the times and pass leadership to a new younger crop of capable Virginians who are equipped to lead our people into prosperity in the Twenty-First Century.
Please run for Governor in '09 George. Virginia needs you.
Waldo is not to be considered a serious blogger. He is more of a caricature.

I agree, what Allen said WAS great. Thanks for posting and thanks for reminding us of Waldo's pettiness.

I love what George Allen said...because they were the words of a private citizen.

Allen's and his supporter's days has long past.

And even better comments.

phaedrusmack,
Do not pretend to know what "heritage" means. Your definition shows not only ignorance but extreme bigotry as well.
Many people have pride in their family and in traditions that have nothing to do with the "war between the states".
I suppose you reserve the same ignorant definition for those who celebrate "black history"? you think they long to go back to the slave days?
I am truly amazed at the extent of some peoples small mindedness.
