Connolly Explodes (Again)

Connolly4 From the Connection:

"At least one member of Dale’s staff, the school’s acting chief operating officer Susan Quinn, implied that the students had moved from Prince William County because of that locality’s effort to crackdown on illegal immigration. Critics of Prince William’s efforts have accused the county of scaring away legal immigrants, as well as illegal immigrants, with its new policies.

"We are seeing a significant increase in enrollment, due to decisions made by neighboring jurisdictions," said Quinn, who was quickly interrupted by Fairfax County Boad of Supervisors chairman Gerry Connolly (D).

"I hope you didn’t say what I think you just did," said Connolly in the middle of Quinn’s presentation.

Last summer, Connolly had publicly refused to implement measures similar to those put into place by Prince William. Now Connolly, who is running for U.S. Congress, objected to the implication that his decision might have had a negative impact on Fairfax in a time of limited resources.

This is a "very sensitive if not explosive" issue, said Connolly to Quinn.

But Dale stood his ground.

It is very unusual for a large group of students to move from Prince William schools to Fairfax schools.

Additionally, about 80 percent of the students who had left Prince William County schools had settled in Fairfax, said the superintendent.

Yet Connolly said it was not appropriate to speculate about why people were moving from one locality to another."

There's more at the story itself about Gerry Connolly melting down during this meeting.

I agree with Gerry's position on immigration, local governments should not be spending local tax dollars to catch illegal aliens.

But the problem here is the same on almost every issue with Gerry.  He does not want accountability.

In this case it is clear that his policy has caused Fairfax school enrollment to spike in a tough budget year.  I agree with his policy.  But why is it that Gerry is unwilling to stand behind it and say he made the tough and correct choice?  Why does he have to pretend like the bad and unpleasant things (i.e. increased school spending in a tough budget year) are never his fault?

Gerry2 This is not the kind of person people should want in public office.  Even when he is right on this particular issue.
------------------------
I missed this flip flop at the end of the article:

"The chairman also added that it does not make sense for immigrants who have limited resources to move from a more affordable locality like Prince William to a more expensive place like Fairfax.

He added that some Prince William residents might have just chosen to move to Fairfax because of the rising gas prices."

Hahahaha.  Did he just say it makes no sense for immigrants to move to Fairfax because it is more expensive...  and then claim they moved to Fairfax to save on gas money?  So they will spend more money if they can save a little on gas?  Which is it Gerry?

He is practicing the DC doublespeak, in hopes that he wins the election he will be able to communicate with others in the legislature.

Trying to master the art of saying one thing, meaning another, blaming someone else for hard times while taking credit for good; being the nice guy while pointing the finger at your opponent and leaving open an opportunity to “reevaluate” your comments to make them mean something different in the future, is a very difficult prospect. All while screwing the voters and the secretary and ignoring all the important issues like energy infrastructure and security.
This makes the job next to impossible and deserving of a raise.

He seems to be catching on rather nicely and should he win, be able to communicate the nothing that all legislators these days seem so competent in expressing.

You are making a mistake in trying to make any sense of it. Our job is to listen and nod glowingly.

You should do a report comparing him and Davis just like you did with Gilmore and Kaine

Ben,

I appreciate your reasoned criticism of the good Chairman here. I too agree with this stance on this issue, and wish that he wasn't so ashamed of it.

I hate to interupt the endless stream of "I hate Connolly" stuff, but Senator Stevens has just been indicted.

Perhaps the information is getting out slowly because the tubes on the interwebs are clogged up today.

No....how dare they indict me...how dare they...I'm an elected official of the territory of Alaska, hell the next thing you know they'll be given those pineapple-eating Hawaiian's the vote...they did...damn those clever Macadamia-nut-chomping fiends...NO! Well there's only one thing that Ted Stevens...err..Rod Barkington knows how to do, and that's swindle Indians...I'm off to ride the tubes to Tuscaloosa...

Ted Stevens awayyyyy.....

=Emporer Ted Stevens=
"Jail is definitely not some sort of Big Truck"

You say he shouldn't be what we want in an official. Does this mean you will vote for his Republican opponent, Ben?

How is what Stevens did any different that what Connolly does. I guess we'll just have to wait until Connolly gets elected to Congress for the indictment.

Dan,
another lying politician is not news..

didn't they indict him for the same thing as clinton? lying to a grand jury?

maybe he'll lose his law license.

I guess Ben won't be voting at all this November. His top bitch (Clinton) lost to Obama, his second favorite assassination target, Kaine, may be the Veep, and his favorite target, Gerry, who trounced Ben's bottom bitch, is about 30 points ahead in the polls. I guess he can just sleep in that Tuesday.

Ben, you really need to grow up. And like the one post said, how come you're not blogging about something useful, such as the Post's story today about Jeffrey Frederick accusing the get-out-the-vote programs as being illegal and promoting voter fraud and identity theft? Now that's an interesting topic.

This is an excellent example of why this pro-illegal lunacy is hurting our children.

When we add students to our school system who shouldn't be here, you're naturally going to see your school resources spread thinner to accommodate this! This results in taxpayers paying more to educate students due to the pro-illegal stances of our county government.

What you're missing is the crime statistics that went with this as well. In 2008 the crime rate in PW County was reduced by 19.3%, while the crime rate in Fairfax went increased by 22%! But then, maybe this is a result of high gas prices forcing criminals to move closer in for their victims as well... right Gerry?

First of all...to "A Voter", I have several LEGAL citizens who are hispanic who live in Woodbridge, one is a co-worker. The co-worker was pulled over by a police officer and when asked why, said he was 'just checking' she didn't get his badge number but she did report it to the police. Second of all, you're an idiot for your hatred of 5 year old kids who happen to have parents who are illegal immigrants. Its good to know that selfish dead-enders like yourself want to punish kids for their parents crimes. Must be wonderful in that 1950s mindset you have, do you have some nooses ready for the mob justice you probably wish to practice?

NLS is right, it was a courageous stand of Connolly to make to not give some red-meat to you anti-hispanic nuts. Sad to see Connolly is validating my reasons that I voted for Byrne.

What was I thinking, Matt? Yes, you're right! Legal citizens in Fairfax deserve for their students to have less resources available to them, and they certainly deserve a 22% increase in crime!

Stealing from our children's education and making more Faifax citizens into victims of crime is the BEST environment for our county!

Thank you for helping me to see the light on this one. Pandering to illegal activity is totally worth it!

Everyone knows immigration is a lose-lose issue to anyone running for office. If you want Gerry to be more forthright, wait until Nov. 5. We know where he stands.

Not John S. Mosby:

Obviously you do not understand what is important here. Ben only hates Democrats because they, led by their henchman Dave Marsden, thwart Ben's ambitions. Republicans, especially the belowed BVBL, are to be sucked up to in the hopes that the super wingnuts will, from time-to-time, tell Ben he is great becasue "he tells it like it is." It is about the only positive feedback than Ben gets. OK, back to hating Gerry Connally and Tim Kaine.

What seems very clear to me is that those who play by the rules end up paying, in some manner, for those who cheat the system.

There is room to debate changing the rules but it is never fair to do so at the expense of all who have suffered rightly for their place in this country.

Citizenship is a gift that should be earned, starting with LEGAL entrance and followed by whatever other policies our government has in place. Anything less demeans not only our process but or stature and most importantly or citizenship.

Not unlike the story today about the family who received the free house and the 250k on the “makeover” TV show. They proceeded to Borrow a half a million on the house and end up squandering almost a million dollars (of somebody else’s money).
There is an appreciation that comes with “doing things the right way” that will never be felt by those who choose wrong. The apologists do no favors to these people nor the citizens of our great country by their actions.

It is that simple.

Good for Ben for calling out his own party members when they act like scumbags. You just know the hyper partisans with blinders on will give him grief whenever he steps off the reservation.

Loudon Insider, Ben only calls out members of his own party when they've done things that bother Ben personally. It has nothing to do with substance or integrity, just with Ben using his computer access to carry out personal vendettas. And, since his vile, in its bitterest form, is directed at Democrats, Republicans think its funny. Ben is mad at Tim and Gerry becasue they got in Leslie's way. He's a cheap shot artist. He's a Democratic version of BVBL, minus the honmophobia and racism. That is to say, he's got the same sick kind of personal anger issues that BVLB and James Young do. If Ben were in charge, he'd ruin anybody who dared challenge him.

You are wrong

I don't think Gerry Connolly should be a congressman. I think he was very rude and condescending to citizens as chairman of the Fairfax BOS.

But I think his opponent is not a good choice, either! In fact, Keith Fimian seems a bit of a right wing wacko to me.

What's a girl to do on election day? I refuse to stay home. I can't stand Connolly and Fimian scares me. Flip a coin??
