8:46 PM, the RCP average is a little above 7 points in Virginia. That's the same as it was last week.
I do have an interesting question for the necons on this site: Why didn't McCain pick Huckabee instead of Palin? He clearly would keep this race closer and would do much better in states like Pennsylvania. I don't think that Ohio or Indiana would be in play if Huckabee was on the ticket. Huckabee provides the same or better social conservative credentials. I just can't figure this one out. He is better than her.

I believe McCain truly believes she represents real change for America. He sees her as the type of American that people would trust.
I think he believed that the media would give her a fair and honest hearing (I don’t know why), and that the voters would be able to asses her on her merits.
Factually, she does have more executive experience than Obama (and Biden and McCain), but this never came out.
He also believed that he could make a statement with a qualified conservative woman as VP. It is unfortunate that she has been vilified by the media and that people do not get a unbiased view of her. It is unfortunate that so many are influenced by these constant SNL type stereotypes. One day people (particularly women) will look back on this and see the abuse, bigotry and hatred that was aimed at her and realize that it was the equivalent of a media lynching. This type of behavior would have been unimaginable had she been any other minority or had she not been a conservative.
A nutshell example is as close as reading today’s news about a person in California who has a mannequin of her hanging from a rope, it’s a big joke because it is her. Imagine the outrage if it was Obama? Any intelligent and honest person can not miss the unfairness in that.
