"The power has shifted," he says. "Rural legislators ruled the roost for so long. But the idea that the power is still in the rural areas is nonsense. Most of the state is suburbia now. It's like 'Of Mice and Men,' where you have this big mentally handicapped guy who didn't realize all the power he really had. Fairfax has 14 percent of Virginia's population but pays 28 percent of the state's income tax."
The irony coming from Creigh Deeds...
Posted by: | February 01, 2009 at 12:16 AM
No, he said it was mentally handicapped. Stop putting words in his mouth.

Ben,
You took that quote way out of context (I don't support Creigh Deeds and I'm saying this)... here's the rest of the quote from the article:
**But Deeds says he's taking the next step, teaching the rest of the state that the Washington suburbs pay for a disproportionate share of the state's services.**
**I tell my constituents, if you aren't willing to help Northern Virginia now, how are they going to want to help you later?" For example, he says, the formulas that govern how road and school money gets distributed must be changed.**
Ben, he actually does deserve some credit here. We know he's not going to win the nomination, but I really haven't heard other candidates actually stick up for us like this, unless I've missed a lot of press.

It would seem that the implication about what Deeds said in the title of this post is total bullshit. Thanks to Hokie Guru for providing context and making clear what Deeds was talking about. It makes me more inclined to vote for him. What he is saying is accurate but it doesn't sell well in other areas of the state. He deserves some credit. Candor instead of meaningless patter. What a concept.
Or perhaps Ben really thought he was calling us retarded up here and that inspired him to write this retarded post.
I understand that the outrageous, over the top, slanted, biased and personally insulting stuff drives up the number of hits. But too much of that sort of thing and you cross the line and become a total whore. Whatever happened to the NLS that provided quality content on a consistent basis? I swear I remember it.
Posted by: Dan | February 01, 2009 at 05:24 AM
I remember it too, but it is getting to be a very distant memory.
Posted by: | February 01, 2009 at 08:38 AM
Ben, are you sure he didn't call you "mentally handicapped" to get back at you for the creigh-tard comments you always make. Creigh's a nice guy and I don't imagine he would actually say that, but it would make some sense. :)

Ben,
I don't see where you disagree with him.
Posted by: Brian Kirwin | February 01, 2009 at 11:58 AM
I love this!!! I mean...who disagrees who lives in NOVA, but this is such a funny post.
Posted by: 55 | February 01, 2009 at 02:38 PM
I do not believe it matters who get the nomination, the dems have the economy so screwed up the people will be ready to throw them all out by November. With this oinker of a “stimulus” bill the libs are showing their true colors.
Obama won and promised change, I still have to make my mortgage and car payment. The only thing I see changing in this administration is that none of his cabinet member and advisors seem to believe they have any responsibility to pay taxes (while they try to spend our money by the trillions).
I really believe this administration is trying to find out just how stupid his followers are. Could he really pick all these folks with all these issues with any other goal?
I can only imagine that you folks that voted for him must be kicking yourselves about now. You must feel abused and embarrassed, if not then you truly must be stupid.
Posted by: | February 01, 2009 at 04:23 PM
Care to have a bet on the election 4:23PM? Northern Virginians (20% of the state's vote) don't want someone who has values similar to Pat Robertson in office. And coincidentally, Bob McDonnell fits that bill. If you have a Paypal account, most people would be willing to take your bet. The only question (related to the Super Bowl) is what point spread are you willing to accept? In short, put your money where your mouth is. I am willing to take the bet now.

What gets me is Creigh's reference to religion. What is that all about??
Posted by: Non-native | February 01, 2009 at 07:51 PM
hokie,
November will come soon enough and the results will prove sufficient.
I believe the “values” that No. Va’s voters want are truthfulness and results. This leadership is proving daily that they are capable of neither.
You may not take issue with being played the fool but I believe you will find yourself in a minority. Most people do not want their stupidity rubbed in their face and that is exactly what is happening now. If you choose to continue being a “useful idiot” it is a choice made from partisanship not intelligence.
btw.. “hokie guru” is an oxymoron, proven regularly with your posts.

So, how many Americans really give a shit about the tax issue? Show me a millionaire who hasn't fucked up their taxes - I have, it's easy when you have multiple business interests, 50 different sources of income, a hundred potential deductions. I'm not absolving him, but really, do you think Americans are going to go "Obama nominated a guy who fucked up his tax return, I'm not voting for him or any Democrat ever again."? Get a clue.
What I find it perusing the blogs is the fact that so many Republicans seem to want a complete economic meltdown just so they can blame Democrats and try and get themselves voted back into power. That's a real great way of looking at society, fuck'em as long as I get mine.
I used to simply disagree with religious fundamentalist conservative Republicans. Then I disliked them, now I despise them.

"The Vatican yesterday announced that Gerhard Wagner has been appointed as auxiliary bishop in Linz, Austria. In 2005, the 54-year-old was quoted in a parish newsletter as saying he was convinced that the death and destruction caused by Katrina that year was "divine retribution" for New Orleans' permissive sexual attitudes and tolerance of homosexuality."
Calvinists know not to speak for God.

"mentally handicapped" people are special children of God.
They deserve our respect.

Ben Rothlisberger was on his kness in prayer in the 4th quarter.
Polumalu repeatedly honored our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by making the sign of the cross throughout the game.
That is why Pittsburgh won.
Praise God!
Posted by: t | February 02, 2009 at 11:02 AM
So t, the Cardinals who were praying and lost - did god smite them? Why did he abandon them in their hour of need? If you insist that your god caused the Steelers to win, then your god caused the Cardinals to lose. Right?
Posted by: Not John S. Mosby | February 02, 2009 at 11:37 AM
Since the Cardinals beat the point spread it is obvious that God was on the side of those who bet on them. The Steelers may have won in Tampa, but the Cardinals won where it counts, in Vegas.
t,
Warner is a deeply religious guy. Why would Jesus abandon him? That Jesus sure is fickle.

When I saw the headline, I thought he was talking about recent election trends, about which he would, of course, be right.
Sadly, not true.

Neither Dan nor Mosby had the courage to meet me at Merrifield last week.
You both cower in the shadows and insult our Lord, yet you are too cowardly to back up your words in person.
Cowards.
Posted by: t | February 02, 2009 at 03:10 PM
t,
The only one insulting the Lord is you with your drivel about Jesus fixing the outcome of sporting events. You hypocrite.
Posted by: Dan | February 02, 2009 at 03:30 PM
mosby,
You might be right about one error, but when we see a pattern of liberal elitists wanting to take and spend our money while they are refusing to pay their own share it is very disturbing. Also, do we really want a bunch of guys that can not even figure out their own debts running the show? Would they have ever paid if not nominated for these positions? would you be so quick to the defense of a republican? Search your soul on that question.
Posted by: | February 02, 2009 at 03:56 PM
hokie,
Unless you are choosing to be a “useful idiot” I can not see where you have been called any name.
If you have thus chosen, you should feel no shame. You should be proud that you support those who:
Don’t want to pay their fair share of taxes, but want you to pay even more;
Wish to keep their positions of power at the expense of your children and grandchildren.
Promise not to hire lobbyists then immediately hire them.
Close down prisons for terrorists and want to bring them to the US or let them go.
Call loud noise and placing panties on someone’s head torture.
I could go on and on but just thinking about this gives me a sudden desire to take a shower.
I am not so sure this is the “change” most Americans are looking for.
Posted by: | February 02, 2009 at 04:11 PM
So, how many Americans really give a shit about the tax issue?
Apparently not too many liberal democrats, but I would guess those poor folks in California who are not getting the refunds they are due might have some concern.

I'm a lifelong Pittsburgh fan, but I find it difficult that the Lord has much interest in the outcome of something as silly as a football game.

Thanks again Ben for exposing CREIGHTARD Deeds for the redneck buffoon that he is.
Democrats don't nee a HICK like DEEDS running for governor.
