Ben, shut up. Stop being bitter just because he beat Moon.
If y'all want to win elections, don't nominate idiots. It is not that hard.

Yeah, I'm taking cues from VA-08 Republicans on the best way to win elections. Right after the lectures on nutrition from Rush Limbaugh.
Posted by: Not Hussein | March 28, 2009 at 08:33 PM
could you at least provide a little context?
Posted by: NoVA Scout | March 28, 2009 at 08:37 PM
Cook kept quiet on his real views until after the election.
I heard his swearing in was a diatribe against illegal immigrants ("boarding houses"), NIMBYistic attacks on lower income families (affordable housing) with a bunch of tongue in cheek lip service to diversity and a bunch of quips about how government doesn't work.
This guy popped out of a 2 year-old time capsule. Corey Stewart comes to Fairfax.

...and where did you hear this?
here??
LOL
Posted by: Steveo | March 28, 2009 at 08:58 PM
A friend of mine over at Terra Center sent me a link to his speech. It's on the county website somewhere.
The guy was talking about going after boarding houses, said the affordable housing is going to bring us Cabrini Green, and didn't say a thing about school funding or anything else that's really an issue in 2009.
Posted by: Fairview PTA | March 28, 2009 at 09:14 PM
You might want to check out what he did in Kings Park to bring the community TOGETHER. But hey that would require actual research instead of kneejerk partisanship. I'm not all that suprised coming from Ben. Its a shame the FCDC is willing to sink to such lows as well.
Posted by: novamiddleman | March 28, 2009 at 09:38 PM
What's FCDC???
What is Cook going to do about the school funding that the County Board is about to hack?
I could careless about boarding houses and Cabrini Green. I don't live in Manassas. This guy is living in the past. I can't believe he won or even won my precinct much less.
Posted by: Fairview PTA | March 28, 2009 at 09:56 PM
The reason he won is his record on cleaning up Kings Park. He was elected to do the same for the rest of Braddock district.
There is nothing racist or xenophobic about tackling boarding houses, they are tacky as crap.
Posted by: Steveo | March 28, 2009 at 10:10 PM
farifeiw,
maybe you should find out the fact for yourself instead of counting on "I heard"s from one of your biased friends.
How dumb can people be that they post opinions based on heresy?

http://johncook4supervisor.com/issues.html
The top issue on Cook's election website is "Strengthening Neighborhoods", and the number one bullet point on the number one issue is shutting down boarding houses.
The only people saying that Cook "hid" or "was quiet" about his views until after the Election are the ones who didn't start paying attention until after the Election.

liberals...lol
they are now a joke unto themselves...

Get the facts - I watched his speech.
None of you geniuses have said how he's going to save funding for my kids' schools? It's only like 50% of the budget he just got elected to vote on?
I guess he'd rather spend money we don't have fighting about boarding houses while they want to cut programs at Fairview and Robinson. Just brilliant.
What's Cook going to do about schools? Kick out the illegal immigrants? Not turn Fairfax County into Chicago?
I watched his kickoff speech - he's a one trick pony. He didn't mention education ONCE in his speech.
All he kept saying was government isn't the answer and I'm going to get the boarding houses (which is a contradiction in and of itself you "small government" idiots).
Posted by: Fairview PTA | March 28, 2009 at 10:46 PM
Give me a break - another PTA fanatic who thinks every single governmental dollar should go into gold plated educational programs for their children. Guess what, if you didn't have boarding houses full of potentially illegal immigrants you would have a lot more money for citizens' educational needs.
Posted by: Loudoun Insider | March 28, 2009 at 11:05 PM
Fairview PTA, what funding would you like saving? The County is going to give the schools at least as much as last year, if not the $20 million more the School Board is asking for.
I think you'd be better off having this conversation with your School Board members, since they are the only ones with direct control over how the school money is spent. Perhaps Ilryong Moon can help you out?
Posted by: Not Scott Surovell | March 28, 2009 at 11:09 PM
The Board determines overall funding you genius.
I would ask my school board member but Tessie was Cook's Campaign Chair and I guess she told him to focus on cleaning up boarding houses and making sure we don't have Cabrini Green in Fairfax instead of all the trailers parked at all the schools.
Posted by: Fairview PTA | March 28, 2009 at 11:23 PM
The Board determines the overall funding; the School Board is the only one with direct control over how that money is spent. So if you're concerned about school money going to get kids out of trailers or to not eliminate programs at your school, you should be talking to your School Board member, not your Supervisor. Genius.
You claim you're in the PTA, yet I have to explain the most elementary concept of how our system works. Perhaps you wouldn't be so angry if you just took the time to learn more about this stuff.

Ben would have a lot more credibility on this issue if he stopped making excuses for Jim Moran (or some of the campaign tactics of Jim Webb). Er, isn't that right, Mrs. Stanley?
Posted by: Not Descended from Slaveowners | March 29, 2009 at 07:29 AM
Is Ben Tribbett a tool or not?
Verdict already in.
Posted by: I.Publius | March 29, 2009 at 07:31 AM
I've seen ben take more than a few shots at jim Moran, who is, by the way, much more of a racist than John Cook would ever be.

Correct. This group simply can not connect the dots. Cause and effect escapes them.
Prince William County enacts a legislative aggenda to expell ( encourage illegals to self deport) they then migrate to Fairfax, Loudoun and Montgomery counties. This of course ends up driving the cost of ESL and other services specific to this group through the roof. This money has to come from somewhere. It comes from other government agencies or other school programs.
These folks advocate for public policy that picks their own pockets and then bitch about a lack of funding for agencies and programs important to them.
Connect the dots people.

John Cook's efforts in Kings Park, before his election as Braddock District Supervisor, reduced the number of overall complaints of illegal boarding houses.
Before John Cook's efforts, many of the complaints did not hold true upon investigation by the Fairfax County Zoning Department.
John Cook's involvement saved county resources.
John Cook's former Democratic opponent, Iryong Moon, also called for strict enforcement of the county zoning laws:

Is Iryong Moon also a racist, too?
