Sources tell me Jeff Frederick is going to try to find a way to get back on the ballot- first he must get the one other Republican who has filed to drop out.

This is truly a sad, sad day for the people of the 52nd District :(

Rafael Lopez will not drop out. Even in a Frederick vs Lopez primary, Jeff would be the favorite but not a shoo-in.
Posted by: Joseph Taylor | April 28, 2009 at 11:28 AM
Jeff can only run if Lopez drops out. If Lopez does not drop out he is the nominee and Jeff can't do anything about it.

Arlen Specter just announced that he is changing parties.

Perhaps Lopez will see the light like Arlen Specter did and become a Democrat.
60 votes! Yes! Now all I need to have a perfect day is a Game 7 win by the Caps!

I realize that is off topic, but pretty darned significant.

Go Caps!

OMG- and Ben's tweet- he was with Grover Norquist. So many sphincters tightening or going loose, but maybe that's a little too close to hard core Republicans like Craig and Vitter.
Well, I wouldn't get too excited. Spector did this for one reason- to stay in the Senate past 2010.

Whatever happened to t and Grapes? I don't think I've seen him/her/it/them posting recently.

NottaoG-
I think they had a cod piece accident watching 300 for the 300th time and ended up hospitalized with broken man parts, spirits, spears, etc.

Lopez is now the favorite to win this seat.

Frederick's strategy is working, he just got a major Republican to drop out of a race... in Pennsylvania.
Posted by: Pete in Williamsburg | April 28, 2009 at 03:26 PM
If Jeff Frederick wasn't good enough for Bob McDonnell, why should he be in the House of Delegates? Virginia has enough do-nothing Republicans already.
Posted by: Bubby Hussein, Hillbilly Sheikh | April 28, 2009 at 04:08 PM
Specter was not a "major" republican he was a liberal republican at best and a defacto dem in reality.
He really had no core values or he would have become independent like Lieberman. Specter only wanted to save his job like too many pols these days.
It will be good for the party to purge and return to core values. It won't be long before the Dems will run into the same problems of trying to satsfy the liberals and the blue dog types.
a third party would probably be a good thing.
Posted by: realist | April 28, 2009 at 10:29 PM
Realist you are deluding yourself to claim that Specter was functionally a Dem -- yes he was an independent Republican -- but in a party that no longer tolerates dissent; when dissent is no longer accepted in a party even minor dissents are amplified
Posted by: truthnjustice | April 29, 2009 at 01:28 AM
truth,
the republicans have tolerated much more dissent than democrats. Specter is only looking out for himself. Anybody who thinks otherwise has no clue. It's shameful but all too typical of most pols these days. Too much about personal power, too little about our country and our future.
Specter is now right where he belongs. Lets see how tolerant the dems are when he falls out of line.

Unless Raphel drops out it is too late for JF. Raphel is not dropping out.

Jeff Frederick is a
slime ball in far more
ways than one. When in the
GA he pushed HB2205
which would have eliminated
the BPOL tax - a local
jurisdiction revenue source
any local board could
end if they so selected,
but knowing it would leave
a big hole in their budget.
When asked why he didn't
push to, instead, lower
the STATE income tax
instead of local revenues,
Frederick just smirked.
