Great job with the Blacksburg debate.
EXCEPT for that snafu with the curtain closing just as this video was to show. I'll bet it a Republican troll who closed them to try to prevent this video from being seen by the world!
Hopefully C-SPAN will include it in their debate playback since it did run after the debabaters came out on stage.
(One bit in it probably ought to be labeled NSFW, though...)

Ben,
Please keep using your time on this stuff. Oh, and keep ridiculing the Tea Parties too. Do that a lot. Call these people names like MSNBC likes to do. Call them ignorant and out of touch. Make fun of their religious faith like liberals talking heads do. And one more thing. Treat them as a passing fad. Please….right on up til’ Nov 2010.

What the heck was that the flashed on the screen after ken w/ his elephant?
Posted by: Dan | April 30, 2009 at 08:29 AM
Hey Ghost of RWR - remember that time your party had total control over the government, and within a few years you managed to nearly destroy the country and lose so much credibility that now only 20 percent of Americans self-identify themselves as Republicans?
Yeah, I'd say that qualifies you as subject to ridicule.
Ass.
Posted by: wah | April 30, 2009 at 10:05 AM
nice job on the event last night.
Posted by: looking ahead | April 30, 2009 at 10:21 AM
wah,
The party affiliation number are more like 28% (rep) to 35% (dem). Not a great affirmation for either party’s policies. (I would suggest a “none of the above” party)
Would you like to expand on how the R’s dearly destroyed the country? You might want to review your history.
More important is what we have in store for the future with the dems putting us 17 trillion in debt, any suggestion on how we are going to get out of that?
(let me guess.. windmills)
Posted by: looking ahead | April 30, 2009 at 10:41 AM
GhostRider,
I know the teabag parties are important to you, but it's hard for us to take them seriously.
-- You named the party after a vulgar sex reference.
-- You weren't upset as GWB tripled the size of government.
-- GWB created the $700B untrackable TARP bailout and your 2008 pres nominee supported it.
-- 40% of the 2009 budget earmarks were put in by the GOP.
-- Except for symbolic segments, all of the GOP governors have gladly taken Stimulus money.
In light of that, why am I supposed to be upset when your outrage has been selective.
Posted by: Pete in Williamsburg | April 30, 2009 at 11:11 AM
Petey,
40% of the earmarks were put in by the GOP, Why , that is outrageous! 40%! Shocking!
I wonder.........
Just curious......
Petey, who put the other 60% in?
Posted by: Anonymous | April 30, 2009 at 11:17 AM
Peter,
One has to wonder, did your mother name you after a vulgar sex reference?
Posted by: Anonymous | April 30, 2009 at 11:19 AM
I think it's fair to say that there are only two types of people in Washington: socialists and liars. At least democrats are open about their intentions to turn the US into a European-style socialist country. Republicans on the other hand use "small government" rhetoric to mask the fact that they are just as hungry for pork as their neighbors across the aisle.
Posted by: Dan | April 30, 2009 at 11:48 AM
Dan, do the math. The Republicans may be just as hungry for the pork, but they at least show some restraint in pushing earmarks through when compared to the ones on the left side of the aisle, as Petey so nicely pointed out.
In case you need help with the math - 40% is less than 60%.
60% is greater than 40% (by 50%!!!) Who's oinking loudest now?
You guys make me laugh! Thanks!
Posted by: Anonymous | April 30, 2009 at 12:10 PM
Dan,
I think you err, NEVER did the democrats say that they supported socialism, in fact they continuously denied that label during the elections.
Many conservatives are and were extremely disgusted with much of the republican spending and the “bailout” proposals under Bush. In fact many believe that the move away from conservative principals is exactly what cost the republicans their majority status.
Don’t equate the conservative label with the republican label.
I would be all for changing the party names to socialists and conservatives, let Specter, Snowe et all choose their side and let the chips fall where they may.
However, just as “liberals” had to change that moniker to “progressives” to fool the public, these “socialists” currently hide behind the “democrat” label.
Maybe only one definition fits best socialist-liars.
Posted by: looking ahead | April 30, 2009 at 12:14 PM
Peter, Dick, Harry and Delores are the same as teabag? Not really.
To answer your question, the other 60 was put in by the party who picked up 50+ members of Congress in 4 years.
Posted by: Pete in Williamsburg | April 30, 2009 at 12:17 PM
By the way, I can't believe I need to point this out, sigh, Republicans have 41% of Senate seats and 41% of House seats. So, does that help clarify that thing about 40%?
Posted by: Pete in Williamsburg | April 30, 2009 at 12:22 PM
For the record, I am a far-right fiscal conservative with a mile-wide libertarian streak. That last comment was not to draw ire, nor to be sarcastic. It was designed to convey my feeling that we have two choices these days: people who tell you that they support socialist policy (and keep their word) and people who pretend to support fiscal responsibility and individual responsibility (and are liars). Republicans only "found their way" because they got the shit kicked out of them for acting like idiots.
One of the built-in problems with a democratic republic is that it's nearly impossible to be "for small government" at the federal level if you want to stay in office. People will perpetually vote themselves gifts from the taxpayers until we come up with a constitutional amendment that defines exactly what the federal government is allowed to spend money on.
Posted by: Dan | April 30, 2009 at 12:39 PM
Dan is right. Dems are at least partially open about their love of Big Government. Reps didn't destroy the country with their big spending, just their party's image.
The latter can and will be repaired, as long as the old guard (Bush, McCain, Rove, Gingrich) are permitted to "fix" it. But it will probably take past 2012.
Finally, the Teabags were a snappy little show. Not a big deal, but more than you Leftists realize.
As for the name. You lose. Few people know your perverted definition, nor do they care or are intimidated by your inside jokes ... any more than when they ask for a teabag at a store. On that, you really are morons; juvenile morons, at that.
Ciao

I'm an idiot. Please add NOT to para 2 above to read:
The latter can and will be repaired, as long as the old guard (Bush, McCain, Rove, Gingrich) are NOT NOT NOT permitted to "fix" it. But it will probably take past 2012.
grrr
Posted by: Not Russ Moulton | April 30, 2009 at 12:53 PM
Peter,
Thanks for pointing those numbers out. Based on your logic, with the democrats having kicked butt and taken a large majority in both houses, you imply then that really the Dems are responsible for 100% of the pork.
Seems logical, they can't so no to anybody.
Also, a "Tea Party" is a group of people gathering to protest peacefully and orderly the actions of their government. A "teabag" is that thing in your face.
By the way, those "Tea Parties" are real, and they are spectacular. It goes without saying that you'll never see one. (Especially with a teabag in your face)
Posted by: Anonymous | April 30, 2009 at 01:20 PM
Yeesh, everyone knows the teabag reference. It's a sad perversion, in many ways, of what was done in Boston in 1773.
Posted by: Pete in Williamsburg | April 30, 2009 at 01:59 PM
Great job Ben! Hate when all the comments get off track. Good coverage in the WaPo on the debate.
Posted by: notsophialoren | April 30, 2009 at 02:30 PM
Pete,
I am sure that “everyone” of you in the gay community are familiar with the terminology. Further, the symbolism of the current “tea” parties is exactly relevant to the protest minded “Indians” of Boston.
Posted by: change please | April 30, 2009 at 03:12 PM
Pete in Williamsburg,
While "Delores" might not be the same as "teabag," I would argue that "Mulva" probably is.
Posted by: Not Hussein | April 30, 2009 at 03:43 PM
Video is too sloppy. Too many flash frames and audio levels are way off in too many places.
Too long too.
I hope you didn't pay anyone to put it together.

The petulant children above were not be, but most likely an Obama supporter.
Any honest, mature person will know that I enjoy my gay sex through the back door, not in my mouth.
Stupid children. GROW UP!

Ahh the simple pleasures of a misspent youth.
I see that your ignorance is too much for you to even post under your own anonymous moniker much less your complete lack of balls.
I suppose this means that in some form you understand the shortcomings of your affiliation and have a bit of embarrassment because of it.
I would only ask that if you choose to mock you at least spell it correctly, otherwise you prove yourselves complete morons instead of just slightly ignorant.

Is there a place to replay the debate? I missed some parts and would like to fill in some blanks.
Posted by: looking ahead | May 01, 2009 at 09:10 AM
Ben wanted to do the "teabag" thing with Jo-ey, but then Jo-ey farted and lost his balance. Ben ingested a lot of dingleberries!

Ben,
You run a great blog, so I am slow to criticize. But there have been too few real posts over the last few days. Throw us a bone!

As utterly bizarre/kinda funny as it was at the time, I just can't condone the use of the Ed Schrock messages... I just threw up in my mouth a little, Ben.

Ben:
While quite entertaining, Gov. Jim Gilmore was right, and within two weeks of Pres. Bush signing an exec. order reversing his (fathers)GHB's exec order (full disclosure) lifting the ban on off shore drilling... the price of a barrell of oil peaked at $147 a barrel and has fallen to the $50 dollars per barrel today...
He was quite correct...
and the Federal Govt. says.. it was just baloney!
Your parody of the RPV is quite correct... btw... Virgil Goode is the Man!
Regardless, of the his blundering campaign by Old Guard Republicans...
Posted by: Spank That Donkey | May 03, 2009 at 11:14 PM
Virgil's own idiot mouth did the blundering for him. Well, that and Tucker Watkins.
