Putting the issue in the video aside, Dean may be the worst guest host in TV history. His delivery is stunningly bad.

Never underestimate profits before people! Republicans and a few Democrats want to keep their donors happy.

Martin Lomasney

Mark Warner OPPOSES the public option!!

FCDC voted unanimously last night to support the public option.

why is Mark Warner out of touch with largest Democratic committee in the state.

Time to call Mark Warner and advise him to rejoin the Democratic Party.

Freedom Fighter

...I had to stop watching after the first thirty seconds...Dean should keep his day job...wait what is his day job?

truth

First, much of the money for the VA use comes from private insurance.

Also, there are serious waiting lists for appointments and continued rationing of care.
Enrollment of P8 veterans have been frozen to limit amount of costs and use of system.

I believe that any unbiased study will find that the cost of this system is not only increasing at a rate above that of private insurance, but is doing so while rationing and limiting access.

LeeHinAlexandria

I am a Veteran and I can tell you first hand that Veterans are waiting six months or more for medical care as a severely overburdened Veterans Affairs health system fails to keep pace with growing demand. Most of the VA patients can't wait and go to emergency rooms to get treated. On top of that, Veterans are seeing their health care rationed. To say that this is better than private insurance is an outright lie.

Why is it overburdened? Because health care costs due to penalization by the Government to the industry is causing costs to skyrocket so more people, especially veterans can't afford it. Government pays 50% of all medical bills. Most times it underpays nad so the industry has to get its payment from somewhere else - the people w/ private insurance.

Salem Republicans

I work with a lot of Veterans and see first hand their dealings with the V.A. and I have NEVER heard a single person say anything positive about V.A. care. They all HATE it. Frankly, going to a V.A. hospital and seeing the deplorable way our veterans are treated is disgusting.

a vet

So, are all the veterans who use the system lying when they answer the surveys about their experience with the VA health system? Because they give the system very high marks regarding their experience with it.

I am sure there are examples of people receiving terrible care in the VA system just as there are examples of people receiving terrible care in private hospitals. But anecdotes that simply serve to advocate one position or another aren't very useful in reforming a health care delivery system that benefits no one except the insurance companies that retain 20 cents of every dollar we pay them in premiums. And you can bet they spend a nice portion of that 20% of our money buying Congressmen and Senators to protect the sweetheart deal they purchased from previous congresses.

It is truly laughable watching Republicans who, when they were busy wrapping themselves in the flag and cynically using the troops as props in their photo ops, extolled the VA health care system as the best in the world now bad mouthing the VA because the quality of the system gives the lie to the narrative they are trying to peddle now. They are twisting themselves into pretzels trying to defend a status quo that is indefensible.

And it isn't just Republicans. Max Baucus in the Senate and the Blue Dogs in the House have taken a ton of dough from the insurance companies. I guess the appearance of impropriety has became a quaint and outdated notion.

Martin Lomasney

If you don't thnk that private insurers are rationing care by increasing premia, denying coverage, increasing deductibles and denying claims, you're not dealing with private insurers. And all of this is done not to improve efficacy of care but to increase profits by gaming the system. United Healthcares profits this year went up >150% over last year.

Health insurers are rent seekers who are only interested in perpetuating their monopolies and monopsynies.

Seriously, I'd like one health insurer explain how their existence makes health care more efficacious for Americans than all the other industrial countries that have equal or better quality of care without an insurance company middleman gaming the system.

Pete in Williamsburg

Government provided health care has its place, such as in the miltary. But, expanded government health care services should only exists alongside of a healthy private sector. Take the words "over 65" out of Medicare and simply make Medicare available to anyone who wants it. Since I can afford a private plan, I'll probably continue private. But, it will eliminate any excuse for anyone not to have health care insurance.

change

Vets should be treated better.

Those who say the problems are anecdotal have no clue. Do a quick google and educate yourselves. But, hey you liberals know more by listening to NPR and reading KOS than the veterans who have experience right?

Maybe we could also see what type of care Ted Kennedy would have gotten if he was in this system. Hint. He would no longer be around, they would be telling him to die with dignity so as not to cost the taxpayers so much money.
Better yet, if they truly believed in what they are saying why did he get so much expensive care, expensive operations and expensive experimental drugs that the rest of society could never obtain.

Liberals always want to tell the rest of us what we can have as long as it does not apply to them and you lemmings should try to see the hypocrisy of their positions.

Further, those of us who choose to have healthcare will have that taken away if a govt system is established. My employer has already said that he will discontinue of our insurance if the govt system is established (anecdotal? Maybe, but true).

What these liberals can not get thru by legislation they will get defacto.
The only sector of government that makes any money is the patent office, all others survive by taking more and more from working Americans. Most of which is spent in efforts to keep themselves in office and enrich themselves and their families. The arrogance is nauseating, check out Dodd’s special mortgage treatment or the oh so many tax cheats in the administration.

One day when you libs grow up and become productive members of society, instead of dregs, you will change your tune. But hurry up, because when you hit 65 you will become a burden not worth saving.

*.*

What kind of care do you suppose he would be getting if he wasn't insured at all, or kicked off his insurance for a "pre-existing condition"?

*.*

"Vets should be treated better. "

So the solution is to abolish the VA and have them go get private plans? Is that what you're saying?

change

He would not have been kicked off for a "pre-existing condition" , and I never said that the VA should be abolished...

Try again..

*.*

"He would not have been kicked off for a "pre-existing condition""

That's really an open question.

Despite that, what if he were uninsured?

*.*

" and I never said that the VA should be abolished"

Well, you say private care is superior, and our vets should be treated better. So the solution is doing away with the VA and letting them choose their own healthcare on the free market, right?

Kevin

"Further, those of us who choose to have healthcare will have that taken away if a govt system is established."

So are people over 65 forced to take Medicare?

Profits before people!

Kevin

"My employer has already said that he will discontinue of our insurance if the govt system is established."

Why? Does it cost too much for them to carry? Is it a burden on their business? Why couldn't you get it on your own?

"Change" Just Makes Shit Up

"My employer has already said that he will discontinue of our insurance if the govt system is established"

Um, you said on another thread that you were a "business owner". If you're a business owner, you don't have an employer.

"Change" Just Makes Shit Up

Oh, not only a business owner, but an "owner of several business throughout the Commonwealth".

Uh-huh. Tell us again.

laura

Howard Dean was awsome on Countdown. And why do you care. Millions have no healthcare, kids are dying in Iraq and you care about Howard.
Putz.

change

Sheeze.. so much idiocy.. so little time…

Ok.. pre-existing question is not an open question. if he were uninsured, I he would be still taken care of, as normal people are now (but he would not be getting the “special” treatment reserved for those who you seem to despise). Further, if he were on the system currently proposed he would be dead.

Yes. Private care is superior. It they were to have some sort of healthcare fund they would be better off. But I never said to abolish the VA.

No…currently people over 65 have a choice.. that will change for them and for the rest of us. (if the Govt decides we are worthy of life after 65)

Yes.. the cost to my employer is expensive, he carries insurance as a benefit to employees. But like the unions are hoping to do he will move those costs to the taxpayer if it makes better sense. (why do you think the unions and companies like walmart are behind this proposal?)

Yes.. I am a business owner and an employee. Unlike many liberals who suck from the government tit, I have not only one job but two, and in fact have partnered in several other endeavors some of which have been successful and some not so (it is called entrepreneurship). I receive insurance from my primary employer as it has more options. Yes, I could get it on my own, I have been insured since I was 21 in one form or another.

It is telling that you liberals don’t understand that people in this world actually work and sometimes work several jobs. I hope that this explanation provides you the impetus to go out and make something of yourself, get a job or two, open your own business and experience the “real” world.
Then you may come back and post with a more expanded knowledge of reality; or of course you could continue sit in your bedrooms at mom’s house and pretend to debate issues on which you have little or no knowledge.

"Change" Just Makes Shit Up

So, you own "several businesses throughout the Commonwealth" but they don't pay you enough to live on, so you work a second job? And you still have time to troll this blog?

*.*

"Yes. Private care is superior."

So why should we give inferior government care to our veterans? Let the magic of the market work free. Abolish the VA.

Kevin

"It is telling that you liberals don’t understand that people in this world actually work and sometimes work several jobs."

Wow...talk about elitist. "I know things about life. I'm better than you because of ALL my life experience that you don't have. Nanny, nanny boo boo." You sound like a jackass "change". With all that "work" you do it amazing that you find time to type your tripe on this blog. Go get laid already.

Nothing will change "change" except for better competition. I know you are a "profits before people" type of person and you would like the health insurance companies to be the gate keepers in everyone's health care but thankfully, your party lost the last election.

Your employer will make a choice to save money for good insurance that people already have. It's up to you now to take that good insurance and keep it or to "upgrade" if you like.

"Change" Just Makes Shit Up

In your own businesses, do you provide health care to your employees?

If you do, wouldn't you have health care, too?

change

I'm a space man!

That is just a lie!

change

Ok, I agree, pay the soldiers what they are worth and let them get better private healthcare (many already have it). Let’s cut some of the social welfare waste and put it in the defense budget. We agree.

Kevin, having life experience does not make someone elitist it just makes them wise. You obviously know little or nothing about the proposals and you would be better served to study that than to post ignorant responses. I would much rather have someone I choose being my “gatekeeper” than a beaurocrat who does not know me or my circumstances. I can only assume from your comments that you are either unemployed or too young for a job because “profits” are what pays employee’s salaries. I hope that when you grow up you will understand.

Finally, do you really believe that Obambi would have been elected if he told the American people that he would triple the national debt, take over the banking and car industries and gut their healthcare system they would have voted for him? It was an election of lies, he won, and now the people are seeing the administration for what it is (check the falling polls).

When the local government worker comes to tell your grandma that her hip replacement is too expensive because it will only give her a few more years of quality life and she should consider just taking pain pills until the end; as you hold her hand while she cries, I hope you will feel good about the change you supported. Then you will have experience then you will have wisdom.

Private Health Insurance, Inc.

"When the local government worker comes to tell your grandma that her hip replacement is too expensive because it will only give her a few more years of quality life and she should consider just taking pain pills until the end"

Hey, that's our job! And we pay our workers bonuses to deny her clain!

*.*

"Ok, I agree, pay the soldiers what they are worth and let them get better private healthcare (many already have it). Let’s cut some of the social welfare waste and put it in the defense budget. We agree."

So, now you DO want to abolish the VA?

Private Health Insurance, Inc.

" I would much rather have someone I choose being my “gatekeeper” than a beaurocrat who does not know me or my circumstances. "

Remember, our middle managers at the central office personally know YOU and YOUR circumstances, and when we deny your claim, its because we CARE. Not because we want to make money. Nope.

"Change" Just Makes Shit Up

Still waiting to hear whether you provide health insurance for your workers in your "several businesses". And if so, why don't you provide it for yourself?

change

7:52

no, not enough evil "profits" yet to afford other expenses. Mostly part time workers with other jobs.

It really is a bit disheartening to think that so many people have so little understanding of how the world really works. You guys have to get out of your bubble. Businessmen are not “evil” profit is not “evil” these are the things that make our country work, they employ Americans. Do you guys think that business owners just collect “profit” and bury it in the backyard someplace? They invest in people, ideas and the future. You should try it sometime.

Kevin

"Kevin, having life experience does not make someone elitist it just makes them wise. No, having life experiences "can" make you wiser or in this case for you an elitist who wants to decide who has health care and who doesn't. For you it's all about "you" and only "you". Your childish rants and the inability to make an argument without assuming that the person you're talking to is probably your equal doesn't make you wise, it makes you a jackass.

But back to the point. People are going to get good quality health care that has been delivered for the last 40 or so years with Medicare. What's wrong with that?

"Finally, do you really believe that Obambi would have been elected if he told the American people that he would triple the national debt, take over the banking and car industries and gut their healthcare system they would have voted for him?"

Yeah who would've imagined that the previous manager of the last eight years was so terrible at his job that someone might have to come in to mop it all up. Remember your hero Bush started the bank bailouts. Oh that's right you have selective memory. It's probably all the businesses you own and your other job that you are so busy with.

"Change" = "Profits before People"

*.*

So you own "several businesses throughout the state" but not only cannot afford to give your workers health insurance, but have to have another job?

What are your "several businesses" in?

change

8:22
Interesting statement, anything to back that up?
I know hundreds of people with thousands of claims processed, ranging from primary care to cancer treatment and none that were denied.

Maybe you want anecdotes from places like Canada or Great Britain.

*.*

Oh, and do your workers go in medicaid then?

If not, what do you suppose happens when they get sick?

*.*

Haha, "change" wants me to back something up when he can't even name what "several businesses" he owns.

Kevin

"Interesting statement, anything to back that up?
I know hundreds of people with thousands of claims processed, ranging from primary care to cancer treatment and none that were denied. "

Wow...hundreds of people...that's a lot of people. Considering there are 300 million people in the country, I say you have some catching up to do.

Are you saying that you work FOR the insurance industry (who wouldn't trust your credibility now) or is this some anecdotes you're making up just for the sake of arguement?

change

I own several businesses, but not enough to make a living, even though I don't even have any full time workers.

So I work a second job, but somehow still have enough time to post on this blog all day.

change

Oh, and since my other job provides health insurance, it is a full-time job. Which means eight hours a day, and then I run my "businesses". And post on here.

I suck at lying, don't I? Maybe I'm the one living with my mom, could I be projecting?

change

Kevin,
It is not for me to decide who has healthcare and who does not. That decision has already been made and everyone who has an issue in this country is taken care of. You support a government plan to decide who gets what type of care. I believe that is wrong. And btw, I believed that Bush was wrong on the bank bailouts. Do you believe that? If so why would you think that pouring more money down that drain is worthwhile? And then follow that up with an auto bailout? .
Further, as I suggested you should study this issue further and not just listen to liberal blather, Medicare is going broke (government run).. Social security is going broke (government run). Educate yourself, talk to your parents and grandparents. Then get back to us.
Also, ease up on the “jackass” thing, I am trying to be understanding with you.

8:32.. you are getting to be a pain in the ass..
Not all businesses produce profit early on; as businesses grow employment grows, benefits grow and industry grows (then we are able to pay taxes for you to sit around and do nothing).

*.*

Well, what are the names of your "several businesses?"

change

Following the logic of these posts, I suppose the only people who have time to comment are the unemployed, or those who post on their government job time. Maybe if you guys went to work, you would not have to depend on someone else to provide for your needs. (specifically the taxpayer, of which I am one)

Unlike you guys I can have two jobs, take care of family, work around the house, pet my dog, eat dinner, watch some TV,get laid, sleep and still have a bit of time to converse with idiots.

Thank God for America.

I do not believe my businesses are your concern. However if you are looking for some part time employment post your name address and phone number and I will get you an interview.

"For someone who posts under and asterisk, you sure are inquisitive.
I do not believe my businesses are your concern."

You don't want free advertising? Strange.

*.*

Or, could it be you were just making up a fantasy life online, and the businesses don't exist?

Nah...couldn't be!

If I'm wrong, just tell me what your businesses are called, and I'll google them. If they're real, I'll never post here again.

change

I'm a plumber who is about to by a business that will make just over $250,000/year. Really.

change

I believe I gave you an opportunity to check my creds, post your info and I will get back to you.
In answer to your “free adv” query, I would think that not everyone here might agree with me and it may be the wrong advertising venue. Also, I don’t think that is what this site is about.
Further even if I did post my business your promise to never post again holds little water when you post under an asterisk.

*.*

In other words, you're a pathetic liar who constructed a fantasy life for himself online, and that stuff about being on welfare or living with your mom was all about you projecting. Got it.

Jesus, you're a sad, sad little man.

*.*

Tell you what, "change", I'll give you another option.

Email me the name of your business:

[email protected]

If you can't do that, well, you're pathetic.

*.*

Or hell, give a website link. What is so scary about posting a website link to your "business"? Unless it doesn't exist.

Kevin

"Also, ease up on the “jackass” thing, I am trying to be understanding with you."

Haha...wow. You insult people by basically telling them you are better than they are with your condescending tone. Then, you ask people to ease up on calling you out? Total jackass move!

change

Kevin,
I was just trying to give you an opportunity to project yourself as a mature adult. You may believe you were insulted but you should look beyond your immediate belief and ponder the facts. Obviously you choose not to do so, which answers any question of your understanding of this issue and your ability to think and converse rationally.

Therefore I imagine you to be either an uneducated fool, a trolling liberal or an immature child; any of which provide no basis for further dialogue on this matter.

My suggestion to you, that you might study and understand these issues still holds and I hope you will educate yourself in these matters. Only then will you be able to speak with any authority and intelligence.

Good luck, and remember to always listen to your father, he has been there, done that and only want better for his son.

*.*

Remember, nothing says "mature adult" like coddling your fragile ego by making up fantasy worlds so you look cool to strangers online.

Kevin

"Therefore I imagine you to be either an uneducated fool, a trolling liberal or an immature child; any of which provide no basis for further dialogue on this matter."

So therefore, "I don't like what you're saying, so I'm going to ignore you." That's a mature, wise adult for you.

You're right, you're not a jackass...you're a pompous jackass.

Paulie

You're right, you're not a jackass...you're a pompous jackass.

But he DOES own several businesses! Bwahahha...tool.

Kevin

"But he DOES own several businesses"

I think I've seen them advertised in the median on Rt. 50.

"Make 4-5k, in two weeks selling houses. If you don't believe, don't call"

or

"Lose 30lbs in 30 days."

No wonder he's so successful.

RichmondDem

Shit, change sucks at trolling.

Here was the perfect chance for him to get an easy troll by saying "as a very successful business owner (unlike you libs) I may have to end health insurance for many thousands of employees if there is a public option" or something like that.

Instead he couldn't keep his fake bio straight. Oh well, I'm sure he will just change nyms now.

change

RichDem

I have no need to make up lies as you suggested. I answered that young man’s questions honestly. He seemed more intent on spewing the typical liberal lies and name calling than any sincere debate on this important issue.

That is fine however, as one learns more about this issue, anyone with any vision will understand that the ultimate goal is government run healthcare. Reading the proposed language will prove this fact. Everywhere this has been tried it has failed or is failing.

I understand the ignorance and ideological thinking of youth, I once believed that a classless society where everyone worked for the common good was a realistic ideal. However it only takes one lazy person to screw up that scenario and the world is not short on those.

Our system is not perfect, but it beats the hell out of any other system out there. If France, Canada, G.B. or Malta were so great, people would not be flying to the USA to receive treatment, surgeries, etc.

*.*

So, can you say the name of your "business" now (if it exists)?

Tom Paine

change is a welfare queen; his two jobs involve getting federal and state wefare!

Not a chance tommy. Since my first minimum wage job in 1974 I have been a payer to the system and not a taker from the system.

What are the name(s) of the "businesses" you run?

You may ask a hundred more times but I have already given you the only answer you will get.

I have answered much for you. Why don’t you tell us all what you do to make society better? Do you have a job? Even part time for the summer?

"You may ask a hundred more times but I have already given you the only answer you will get."

So it was all bullshit and you made it up. Got it.

Again, you're a sad little man.

I did not hear any answer from you to my query.

I guess you are just one of the dregs of society who build themselves up by trying to tear others down.

Not working fella. I have seen to many losers like you who want to go from mommy's tit to the government dole without having to pay anything.

Remember, if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. Your problem is that my money (as a taxpayer) is running out and you may have to fend for yourself in the real world.

Don't worry, many people throw crumbs even to idiots like yourself.

change

finally,
given the fact that you refuse to even answer a simple question, I will no longer indulge your childish game.

Best of luck to you when you enter the real world, you have a lot to learn and a long hard road ahead.

(you should only hope that your parents are rich and stupid enough to take care of you or you are in big trouble)

*.*

I'll tell you my job as soon as you tell me the name of your business.

I really don't think asking you the name of your business is a "childish game". Making stuff up, OTOH, is.

A guy that just makes up fantasy worlds so he can look cool to strangers on the net, talking about the real world..ahaha.

*.*

There you go about tits and moms again. Got some issues from your childhood with your mother or something?

Since you're such a great PRODUCTIVE citizen, please tell me what it is exactly you produce, what the name of your "business" is.

Kevin

"Since my first minimum wage job in 1974 I have been a payer to the system and not a taker from the system. "

So you've never received a tax refund check in your life...

I didn't know your car could fly since you don't use any roads. That's awesome!

change

Kevin,
When you get a job you will find that your "refund" is only a return of money you have "overpaid" to the Govt. Unless you are one of the dreg's that take more out than you pay into the system.

(say this with me: the government makes no money, they only take money from the taxpayers)

It is those who pay nothing into the system and still use the roads, and take advantage of all the other freebies that drain the system. Liberals continue to promote this mentality even as it is breaking this country. Yesterday the democrats voted against mandating that a person must prove citizenship to use the healthcare system (non emergency); they voted against allowing people to keep their own insurance mandating that they go into the government system; they voted for funding abortion with taxpayer money. What do you think will happen when there is no more money to give away?

In one week the "cash for clunkers" program has gone bust. Does this not give you pause to consider if the administration has a clue what they are doing? With this track record the new healthcare program will be broke in short order. Think about the consequences.

The democrats new slogan seems to be “print baby print”.
