"The Freak Show" comment is very telling. Alot of people still don't get what's going on out there. I guess some people need to enjoy the view from the elitist seats while it lasts.

Truth hurts! Can't wait to see Peterson-Cooch in 2013!!!
Posted by: DanielK | October 29, 2009 at 12:20 AM
that "freak show" is gonna whoop that ass on tuesday. I feel bad for Chap, he was one of the earliest Creigh supporters . . . this takes some shine off his apple.
Posted by: Chris | October 29, 2009 at 06:15 AM
I'm a Democrat, but that was uncalled for. Bow Tie should watch what he says.
Posted by: Not Stan Parris | October 29, 2009 at 06:56 AM
OK, on-line police, I'll take the hit. I took that reference off the post. I think anyone who saw the unicyclists last night waving the large yellow flags would find it (at a minimum) unusual.
Posted by: Chap Petersen | October 29, 2009 at 08:11 AM
Chap is right.
Those guys riding unicycles, wearing thos big yellow flags (don't tread on me), and looking all cult-like.
Yea, it was a freak show. All of us standing around kinda looked around, not laughing, not clapping, nothing. Very strange.
Posted by: Not Bentard | October 29, 2009 at 08:13 AM
wow...it really is all about timing, isn't it? Cooch is a freak, soon to be AG Freak to you and me. What do other freak candidate think? Somewhere Mike Farris is contemplating hanging himself.
Posted by: not tim | October 29, 2009 at 08:13 AM
I love it!
Keep calling us freaks, keep discounting us, keep dismissing us. Go ahead . . . see where that got Steve Shannon. It might get him 45% of the statewide vote.
Posted by: Chris | October 29, 2009 at 08:17 AM
Mr. Petersen, you might want to visit Blue Virginia to clarify too.
They get into it big time, describing the Halloween feeling of people carrying US flags and chanting USA.
This is the US. We do have a flag.
Some people express love and respect for both.
Ridiculing that sentiment not only denigrates those who do feel proud enough to carry the flag in a political rally, but carried too far creates a bit of creepiness of its own.
Shall I argue like a "progressive" and say those who find the show of patriotism creepy must themselves hate the US and its symbols?
Hardly.
But it serves no one well to ridicule people expressing love of country, and that's really all anyone can assume they are doing.
Posted by: Barbara Munsey | October 29, 2009 at 08:43 AM
wow. whoever this Chap Peterson is, he must not care about America. I mean, what is wrong with Patriotism? and what is wrong with 1st Amendment?
Mr. Peterson, would you think the entire VMI Cadet Corps marching down the street was freaky, too? My God, they have the American flag.

If those opposing Cooooch are that serious, then why did anyone talk about his connection to "larry Pratt"?
Larry Pratt has been running around acting as spokesman for the Cooch campaign and if you are not famil with who he is, he is the head of the Gun Owners of America.
While claiming to be a gun rights advocacy group, his organization is really a front for white supremacists.
From the Southern Poverty Law Center:
"Larry Pratt, 58
Larry Pratt, a gun rights absolutist whose Gun Owners of America (GOA) has been described as "eight lanes to the right" of the National Rifle Association, may well be the person who brought the concept of citizen militias to the radical right.
In 1990, Pratt wrote a book, Armed People Victorious, based on his study of "citizen defense patrols" used in Guatemala and the Philippines against Communist rebels — patrols that came to be known as death squads for their murderous brutality.
Picturing these groups in rosy terms, Pratt advocated similar militias in the United States — an idea that finally caught on when he was invited for a meeting of 160 extremists, including many famous white supremacists, in 1992.
It was at that meeting, hosted in Colorado by white supremacist minister Pete Peters, that the contours of the militia movement were laid out.
Pratt, whose GOA has grown since its 1975 founding to some 150,000 members today, hit the headlines in a big way when his associations with Peters and other professional racists were revealed, convincing arch-conservative Pat Buchanan to eject him as a national co-chair of Buchanan's 1996 presidential campaign.
The same year, it emerged that Pratt was a contributing editor to a periodical of the anti-Semitic United Sovereigns of America, and that his GOA had donated money to a white supremacist attorney's group.
Pratt is today close to the extremist Constitution Party and its radical theology."

Vivian Paige has an oped up from a RoVA newpaper, where a log cabin republican and RPV member is calling for Cuccinelli's defeat!

Posted by: Not Bentard | October 29, 2009 at 09:38 AM
You soapdodging leftwingers who live off George Soros handouts really shouldn't be calling others "freak show." Just look in a mirror! Speaking of freak show, how are Lowell and Joey these days?
Posted by: || | October 29, 2009 at 09:42 AM
Chap apparently thinks that "unusual" is an adequate synonym for "bizarre". Lighten up, Chap! This was a Halloween parade, not a military exercise. Ken has used the Gadsen flag (Don't Tread on Me) as part of his campaign since the Republican convention in May so why is it "unusual" for it to be used last evening in Vienna?
Posted by: cageyd | October 29, 2009 at 09:49 AM
Chap should have paid a little more attention. Shannon had a large RV with a small sign tied to it... along with ZERO volunteers.
Posted by: A Voter | October 29, 2009 at 11:07 AM
I suspect that many Ds, Chap included, are a bit cranky after the VCU poll came out with Bob McDonnell up 18 points. Ain't fun when you’re getting your butt handed to you...
Posted by: Ghost of RWR | October 29, 2009 at 11:17 AM
He's probably cranky cause he's looking at his own distirct and suddenly realizing in two years its not going to be as easy as he thought.
Posted by: Chris | October 29, 2009 at 12:58 PM
Babs, when did the "Don't Tread on Me" Flag become the absolute symbol of our country? But then again if it were a perfect "Tea Bag" world like you want it to be then that would become our new national emblem.
Remember when Katherine Crabill was pandering to the Tea Baggers and she called for the violent overthrow of our country if they don't win at the ballot box? Well not too many of your tea bag followers were quick to condemn it, in fact it took the RPVA nearly a month
Posted by: DanielK | October 29, 2009 at 01:30 PM
danielk, I was referring to this quote from Blue VA:
"Chap also describes McDonnell supporters as "carrying an enormous American flag and chanting 'U-S-A, U-S-A.'"
That makes no reference to the Gadsden flag, does it?
I realize that by focusing on that, it lets you say "teabagger" a lot, but as I've already mentioned to you, I've never attended a tea party.
You really make me want to though! lol
No, I don't recall anyone advocating the violent overthrow of the government while drinking tea.
I DO recall a lot of folks violently demanding that very thing from 2000-2008 though.
Is that what you're on about?
lol
Here, maybe a song will cheer you up:
"Oh Danny Boyyyyy, the polls, the polls, are ca-a-a-a-a-allin'....it don't look go-o-o-od, not good for yours at alllllllll; the summer's go-o-o-o-one, and numbers just keep dro-o-o-oppinnnn, I think your boyyyy is headed for a falllllllll!"
Posted by: Barbara Munsey | October 29, 2009 at 01:40 PM
Ms. Mumsey, I dont think Chap was ridiculing the McDonnell folks and the American flag. He was merely stating what some of the candidates' sections were. The way I read it was the unicyles in Cuccinelli's group that he was referring to as a freak show"
Posted by: SE VA MWC Alum | October 29, 2009 at 02:08 PM
MWC alum: you are right--the entire thing can be read 2 different (or maybe more) ways.
one should never be ambigious when describing or commenting on icons/symbols of patriotism. he used the "freak" word in conjunction with a symbol of patriotism.
Posted by: kelley in virginia | October 29, 2009 at 02:16 PM
Babs, I gotta admit you made me laugh there!
Posted by: DanielK | October 29, 2009 at 03:26 PM
I'm glad, kiddo. It's good for you!
:)
Posted by: Barbara Munsey | October 29, 2009 at 03:48 PM
Of course I'll be laughing even more on Tuesday see Tag and Tom go down :)
Posted by: DanielK | October 29, 2009 at 04:35 PM
Don't pin it all on that, hon. What if it doesn't happen that way?
Then you'll cry, which, while cathartic, is not nearly so enjoyable, unless you LIKE being miserable and angry.
Some people do, it seems!
:)
Posted by: Barbara Munsey | October 29, 2009 at 04:56 PM
Spock,
I see that you have returned with your extreme racism again. Given how you define this person, I wonder your thoughts on Obambi when he was hanging out with ayers?
Posted by: change | October 29, 2009 at 05:13 PM
Color me disappointed in Chap.
I thought he had more class.
But hey, Creigh Deeds and Steve Shannon are his buds. I suppose I can understand if he's extremely biter seeing his buds get ground into the pavement by this crowd.
Like John Kerry being ground into the pavement by George W Bush in 2004 or George Allen being ground into the pavement by Jim Webb in 2006, he has to be asking himself while watching the victors parade about... "We're getting beat by THAT?!?"
It's elitist and out-of-touch, to be sure, but it reflects what happens when your paradigm is utterly blind-sided by something you have failed to see or comprehend.
The answer to the question (yes, you are being beat by that) should really lead to a better exploration of the potential reasons than I'm seeing.
Posted by: Recovering Moderate | October 29, 2009 at 06:08 PM
I kinda liked Chap, he was RIGHT on a few issues.
This will not sour me to him permanently, but it does give one pause.
Posted by: change | October 29, 2009 at 06:19 PM
I'm impressed Chap responded so quickly.
Posted by: Not Stan Parris | October 29, 2009 at 08:13 PM
DK... OOOPS! I mean "Change" ... sorry I keep getting you two mixed up somehow ... Larry Pratt is so racist even Pat Buchanan kicked him to the curb.
Do you think it's okay for our AG to be tied to racist militia groups?
You would have to have a very martial mentality to want that kind of fascism ... like a cop ....
Posted by: Spock | October 29, 2009 at 08:21 PM
HOLY SHIT!!!! CONGRATULATIONS SPOCK!
You have done the impossible and made my dear friend Babs actually sound intelligent and coherent because your last comment made no sense!
Do you really think I support Cooch? I know your dumb, but didn't think you were that dumb!
Posted by: DanielK | October 29, 2009 at 09:01 PM
DK- troll much?
Actually, being how much you hate leftists, love your COP job and believe COPs are entitled to police brutality against leftist protesters ... have you thought about securing a job with the Coooch?
You'll fit in just fine!
BTW, COP, it's "you're" dumb, so try putting the donut and baton down before posting ...hmmmm...?
You are living and posting proof we need to cut LE spending and throw it all into education for an actual progressive society in elimination of boneheaded violent COPs.
Come on and show your true colors of what you are about, COP.
Come on and attack a whole DC based leftist collective... I bet the PDA and other real progressive Dem groups would find your opines on movement activists very interesting ...
Posted by: Spock | October 29, 2009 at 09:24 PM
Me troll? Come on, I just love seeing your little fake rants because you try and make yourself out to be one of those suffering and this and that blah blah blah. There's a difference between actually being in a protest and watching it from the safety of your home which I'm pretty sure you do!
Again, I know you can't think but I figure you could at least read but then again that's clearly not the case. I guess all the money I get for being "COP" prevented you from buying Hooked on Phonics when you were young. Go read, actually have someone else who can read do it for you, the posts I have made. If you think I'm some right-wing fascist then you are as dumb as I think you are. Probably all the imaginary beatings you took as a protester impaired your intelligence.
Are you trying to let me know I'm a "COP" cause I don't seem to understand that with your emphasis. Also, I didn't have a baton in my hand it was a cup of coffee! Us "COPS" like coffee and doughnuts! They go hand in hand with one another :)
Posted by: DanielK | October 29, 2009 at 10:17 PM
Wait a second. Change, a libertarian leaning republican is being compared to a unioncentric democrat.
Spock, get off that new weed, its screwing you up more than your old strain.
Posted by: Not Michael Jackson | October 29, 2009 at 10:35 PM
Keep it up, DK, "you're" going to be an interesting story one day when the mask slips off ...
Posted by: Spock | October 30, 2009 at 02:43 AM
NMJ- woah wait, there is new weed? where? No wait, there is a COP around so shhhhh, the bored fKKKer might think he is rescuing society by chasing down weed smokers!!!!
BTW, nice attempt on the NIMP, but you LOSE THE GAME!
DK and Change both belong to the political Lemon Party:

Posted by: Spock | October 30, 2009 at 07:03 AM
Although the comment disappointed me in terms of tone and attitude, I have to agree that it's pretty bizarre for any politician's supporters to be wearing gadsden flags WHILE ON UNICYCLES!. I think the entire reason they did that was for my amusement.
Posted by: PWConservative | October 30, 2009 at 10:48 AM
Spock,
Re: Do you think it's okay for our AG to be tied to racist militia groups?
I see this as less of a “tie” than Obama had with ayers et all. I never read your opinion on that??
DK,
I know we often disagree, but I expect we would agree that spock is not only a racist, but a bit nutty. (or with serious mental issues)
I have a high regard for “COPS” (and all those who serve and protect our country at home and abroad); and I imagine if spock or his family, was getting robbed, beaten or otherwise abused he would be whistling a different tune.
I do not usually stoop to name calling but in this case I will make an exception by saying that spock is a real ass.
Posted by: change | October 30, 2009 at 11:52 AM
Change, yes we often disagree but I think we have a healthy disagreement and at least respect each other's opinions. Spock on the other had, I think just speaks for himself. He is a racist and definitely a bit "off" to where I wouldn't be surprised if mental health or dillusion plays a role.
Thank you for your high regard and know that people like Spock are those select few. I think his comment a while back about Mumia Abu-Jamal having more "work to do" showed his true character.
And usually, the people I back-and-forth with (Like "Babs") is just part of the fun of it all!
Posted by: DanielK | October 30, 2009 at 01:49 PM
DK and Change are the same people, I would bet a Benny on it!
His Change posts are from the blackberry and DK are from the laptop.
Nice job DK, but my fear is for all those people who handled over their personal info to you during the Obama campaign.
You're going to be a hell of a blog story one day.
I wonder if Ben will run it?
Posted by: Spock | October 30, 2009 at 02:37 PM
What?!?!? I am definitely not "Change" My life doesn't revolve around this to where if I'm not near a computer I'm gonna go through the hassle of posting from my Blackberry. You think a little too highly of yourself there Spock!
Also, what personal information? I think Change was right and that you do have some mental health or issue of delusion! Maybe you should be the poster boy of why our mental health services should not be cut but rather expanded!
Posted by: DanielK | October 30, 2009 at 02:55 PM
DK,
Cooch has worked very hard on mental health issues, I am sure he will appreciate your support.
(I just had to get that one in).
Also, I too do not post with a blackberry (don’t even own one). My cell phone is enough of a pain in the rear.
Btw.. I was pulled today by one of your brothers in uniform (an honest mistake on my part), he gave me a warning. (I think he liked my NRA sticker).
Maybe God’s payment for my nice words about you guys earlier in the day. :)
Posted by: change | October 30, 2009 at 09:13 PM
Although upon further thought he now has my “personal information” and his congeniality was all a ruse.
Maybe I should ask spock how to avoid the “black helicopters” , the strange lights, the sound of marching boots and the voices I have been hearing since that encounter.
Posted by: change | October 30, 2009 at 09:20 PM
HAHAHA!! You're alright Change....And yes, it's all about Karma! Your nice words more than likely made all the stars align and allow you off with a warning :)
I still have to read Spock's posts a few times over because I gotta remember he think I'm a right-wing nut job! I'd assume you'd agree I am not even close?
