In response to this outrageous position by Robin Abbott that the government should let poor children see a doctor- the Daily Press endorses Phil Hamilton. Yes, that Phil Hamilton.
P.S.- Robin, if you are still ambivalent on which tax should be raised to pay for this- please consider starting by eliminating the tax exempt status of newspapers. Seems fair.
Get use to it, Ds, Election night won't be a happy time for you...

The Virginia Gazette endorsed Hamilton too. Both endorsements basically said they weren't crazy about Phil but took him because of his experience and because of the fact that in the interviews she didn't have a clue about much of anything and could barely string a sentence together.
Ward Armstrong once again snatches defeat from the jaws of victory with his stellar caucus and recruitment operation. Makes one almost wistful for the return of Frank Hall...

Can Phil serve from jail? That is certainly where he belongs.
Posted by: GOP SUX | October 29, 2009 at 11:42 AM
Robin Abbott is gonna raise taxes on poor kids so she can get health insurance?
Posted by: Greg | October 29, 2009 at 11:45 AM
so we will have a felon running for delegate.
the daily press is a right wing operation. they endorse hamilton over abbott who is by far the best candidate.
go robin.

Ben, I know this blog is about Virginia, not California. But you really should do a post about Arnold's "F*ck You" veto message to the California legislature. A political classic.

I dunno, it's pretty devastating when a Democrat running against an ethically-compromised Republican can't wring an endorsement out of the Daily Press, which rivals the Washington Post in its editorial slant. That says more about Robin Abbott than it does about Phil Hamilton.

Makes sense. Parents should take care of their children, not taxpayers.

Not sure where Not Paul is from, but let me fill you in on a news flash.
Digby Solomon has turned the editorial page of the Daily Press into a right wing, republican, Obama bashing rag. You are waaaaaay outdated in your information.
Posted by: GOP SUX | October 29, 2009 at 03:43 PM
GOP,
Having read some of the editorials, I am not so sure you have your facts straight.
But hey, what do facts matter to liberals? We are about to get a healthcare system that will give everyone everything they need for free!!!!
Gotta love those liberal facts.
Posted by: change | October 29, 2009 at 06:03 PM
Digby and the editorial board of the Daily Press have definitely turned to the right. Havent a clue what newspaper they have been reading but the count now stands 5 to 2 for Republicans in DP endorsements and they have a slanted left viewpoint. I have some koolaid for some of those people.

Laura, GOP Sux and Gene-
Several points. Hamilton has been found guitly of nothing. If after ethics hearing he is found so, conviction is a Class I MISDEMEANOR and the 12 month statute of limitations has passed.
Abbott killed herself. She is rude and aggressive at public forums-while being uniformed. She has waged an ugly mail, tv and phone campaign. Voters rarely go to polls to vote against someone but rather for them. Also, women and the elderly (the largest voting groups) hate negative campaigning.
Abbott had Len Bennett's money but nothing else. Hamilton rose to his current positions in Richmond because he is very bright, has nerve to stand for what's right and he will cross a line.
Unless one of you has a court verdict with a guilty mark on it, you are not credible.
Hamilton will win. After 22 years of service and a lifetime on the Peninsula, people know and like him. He's not perfect but he has been a very, very good caretaker of the Peninsula.

Gene-
You were rude, loud and out of line at the Williamsburg forum where Abbott "lost her train of thought." You do not understand why intellect, seniority (with NO legal judgements) makes Hamilton the preferred choice? You're on wacky koolaide!

I'm neither a Dem or Rep, but an Independent. I live in the district. Hamilton, for the past 20-years has been at every public event I can remember. If there was a Brisque, he was there to catch the foreskin! Abbott, for example, at the Denbigh Days parade, never shook a hand, never said hello, she sat in the back of her dirty (couldn't even wash the car) convertable and waved like she was the Queen. When I met her, she never listened to a word I said, she wouldn't even look me in the eye! I don't like the Hamilton mess, but I dislike Abbott even more. DP is most definitely gone off the right wing cliff. Their publication of false information about Republican Glenn Oder "not taking money from payday lenders" lost them my subscription. Oder not only took money from payday lenders, his legislation was impudent against them. The DP's latest "columnist" Carol Capo is not Mensa material, she's so mind-numb, I doubt she can find her desk from day to day. No question the Daily Press has gone to hell in a handbasket in the past 2-years.
As an Independent, watching you party people piss and moan at each other, only reminds me that you are the problem, and not the solution to the mess in goverment. All of you need to "drink the kool aid" and give the rest of us a break. When you're taking cheap pot shots at each other, you only make yourselves look stupid and juvenile.

It isn't the ethics panel that is Hamilton's problem.
I can't wait for the federal Grand Jury indictment. "Phil is not perfect"? Forgetting someone's birthday is not being perfect. Lining your pockets, abusing your power and position and violating the trust of the people makes you and unethical crook.
"Phil will cross the line". You bet he will becasue he most certainly did when he sold himself for $40,000. Not only is he a crook, he is a cheap one as well. The voters on the 93rd will not send him back to Richmond to steal some more.
Posted by: GOP SUX | October 30, 2009 at 09:27 AM
SCHIP already exists. Poor kids can see a doctor. If Abbott thinks it should be expanded, she needs to explain how to pay for it. We're long past the days when we can simply promote programs without off-sets or some kind of way to pay for them.

GOP Sux-
The Feds also are sniffing around HB 1687 from the 2009 session. Seems a certain attorney who owns Consumer Litigation Associates, thought "pulling" that bill might be rewarded w/ a 25,000 campaign contribution.
If Hamilton intended gross, intentional, premeditated use of public power he should have asked for 1) 160,000 as Norment,2) demanded over 300,000 in contributions from one employer- including 45,000 today and produced a budget amendment that actually benefitted ODU.
You are a nasty partisan poster who lacks facts but not vulgar language.
Nov 3rd the voters will decide if your ugly venhom is correct
Posted by: Cara Portfield | October 30, 2009 at 07:58 PM
Yep, as I wrote, Phil is a cheap crook, which by the way is not vulgar except in the world of sycophants and "partisan posters" who are prostituting themselves for a guy who sold his position and power for 40k/yr.
Your boy is going down big and none of your attempted insults and false allegations against CLA is going to change that.
What Phil did was vulgar, not me pointing it out! Grow up and learn to spell.

GOP Sux-
There is nothing false about VPAP contribution reports. Learn the field.
You'll hear from the supporters of Phil Hamilton in the 93rd on election night. Hamilton will win. All of the rest of us will laugh when you eat crow.
Go read another blog.
Posted by: Longtime Newport News Boy | October 30, 2009 at 11:28 PM
Of course, I did not say a word about a contribution report, it is the quid pro quo, idiot boy, that is false. It is also a weak attempt to deflect from the real and verifiable ethical lapse and prostitution of ones office that Hamilton is why the crook will be retired.
Gesh, you people are delusional in how you spin away for your soon to be indicted ex-delegate
Posted by: GOP SUX | October 31, 2009 at 10:11 AM
GOP Sux-
Just your name is rude, cheap and offensive.
Queen Robin was documented and seen at home today while 10 dollar an hour "physically able vounteers" were going door to door. With a fresh 45,000 from Len Bennett she can employ 1/2 the 93rd district to "volunteer" or have thousands in "walking around money."
She blows off public forums, public events and door-to-door interaction.
Hamilton's amendment was not for ODU. He will not be indicted. There was no premeditated, malicous intent.
Go to your doc. Election night will be hard on you. You need help so the rest of us don't worry about you showing up unstable.
Hamilton will win. He enjoys being with his life long Peninsula constituents and they support him. No one, save you I am assured, is perfect.
Notice you ignored HB 1687. Double Standard!?! Oopps, can't find legislation OR budget amendments.

GOP Sux:
1) the Democratic Mayor of NN supports Hamilton,
2) The past State Chairman of the Virginia Democratic Party supports Hamilton,
3) Democratic Governor Tim Kaine did not rush to judgement, and
4) Hamilton has received both local paper endorsements because his opponent is "ludicrous."
GOP Sux crawl in a hole with Laura and Neil b, Hamilton will win.
