33 of the 61 Republicans (including Abbitt and Putney) in the House of Delegates are in districts carried by Barack Obama (08), or TIm Kaine (05) or Mark Warner (01). That's over half of the Republican Caucus. Heck- 21 of the 61 are in seats that Obama won- over 1/3 of the GOP Caucus.
If there is any statistic that shows Democrats need new leadership in Richmond, this is it.
How many Dems are in seats won by McDonnell or a Republican congressman?
Somehow, I don't think it's as simple as your're making it out to be.

Exactly what I was going to ask, Bruce.

Nice try. It actually shows how Obama/Kaine were one hit wonders. Warner ran as a DINO, which with the Pelosi/Reid/Obama reign now unveiled is evolving to mean DINOSAUR.
Posted by: Let's Be Free | January 27, 2010 at 11:01 AM
Well, now Warner appealed to moderate and centrist Republicans, so I imagine that would have something to do with it.
As for Obama, I think a lot of Indie voters went for him because they hated Bush and McCain was not offering anything that appeared to be different.
Posted by: Phil Chroniger | January 27, 2010 at 12:06 PM
What do you mean McCain wasn't offering anything that appeared to be different?
He offered us Sarah!
You obviously didn't get the memo.
Sarah is the future of the Republican Party and the nation.
(God help us!)

Ben's right -- we have a huge amount of information about voters who have gone to the polls and voted for Democratic candidates. But if we, as the state and local party, can't follow up on that, we need a new plan.
I know I keep sounding like a broken record, but I believe that most people like to be asked for their vote. They like to know something good about the person they are voting for. They like to think that their concerns and opinions are being heard.
Honestly, Democrats have done a lousy job in the past few elections doing those basic things. And the voters have responded.

LBF is right: what it shows is that Obama was an aberration.
Posted by: James Young | January 27, 2010 at 02:06 PM
Excellent point, Gretchen.
There are so many tumors eating away at the DNC including state level it's hard to know just where to begin.
Since when was it ok for elected Ds and Rs who get elected to serve "We the People", but once in power take orders from the club elite?
More than 58% of the American public said no to the 2000 page mega monstrosity aka healthcare reform, but it wasn't until Brown took Mass that the Ds in the senate backed off. Had Brown lost, healthcare would have past and those elite "smart" Ds would retire to that room of their's and rewritten the whole damned thing. Simply b/c they could and not b/c it was ever in the best interest of even those who are uninsured.
No, like I've said before, this D Party resembles nothing like the D Party I supported all those years.

Nifty stat. It would be better if you provided a link, dumbass.
Posted by: Brian | January 27, 2010 at 04:27 PM
Gretch,
You are correct. All voters like to believe their concerns are being heard. I think we see the results (MA) when the opposite is true.
If only politicians would be truthful in their campaigns instead of running on a moderate platform and moving one way or the other. I believe that the R’s are lost their majorities because they moved left of center and this administration has lost it’s support because it moved even more left.

Maybe that's how they came up with the terms "independent" or "swing" voters.

Folks. This is why in Virginia Delegate elections are not in even numbered years!
Posted by: WolfRun Nightowl | January 27, 2010 at 07:58 PM
How many districts in NJ that Chris Christie won do you think went for Obama in 2008?
Posted by: Wren Jackson | January 27, 2010 at 10:08 PM
Having just finished watching Obambi’s most recent diatribe on the problems that he is unable to face in our country (and continues to blame on anyone that is breathing) , I was struck by the continued partisan rhetoric.
Let me be the first to name our VP “bobble head Joe”, because every time Obambi opened his mouth, Biden obediently nodded his head up and down (slightly embarrassing if you ask me).
I switched back and forth from MSNBC and FOX (to insure a fair understanding) and I could not figure out one thing; I know that Juan Williams presented the view from the left on FOX, but I have yet to figure out if maddow, matthews or oberman presented the view from the “right” on MSNBC?
Did I miss something or is it a biased network???
Finally, Our new Gov. did a good job in his speach and all Virginians should be proud...

Change --(laughing) I obvious wasn't listening to the same McDonnell speech that you were!!
Didn't listen to commentary before or after, on any network.

Change - That's probably why Americans trust Fox News more than any other TV station!

It was so refreshing to see our president hit on all cylinders last night. Better yet, he did so without Cheney smirking, falling asleep, and picking his nose in the background.
Posted by: Alexander Hamilton | January 28, 2010 at 12:00 PM
If that was your definition of "hitting on all cylinders" this is going to be a great final three years of his presidency!
Posted by: A Voter | January 28, 2010 at 02:43 PM
Three quick facts: 1) Obama rocked the house last night as only he can. Just ask Bob McDonnell. Wow was that guy pathetic. 2) Bush squandered Clinton's surplus and plunged this country into massive debt, but fortunately we have someone in the White House who has a clue (finally). 3) Obama saved this economy from total ruin and has already accomplished more than do most presidents. Even in the face of a GOP hijacked by ideological extremists. Even with three years left to go. Talk about impressive, maybe this guy is magical after all.
Posted by: Alexander Hamilton | January 28, 2010 at 03:32 PM
Juan Williams is a representative of the left? Only on Fox News. To those of us who think we are the left, Williams has been a toady of the conservatives for at least 10 years. You assume that because he's black, he must be a liberal. Nope.
I would add that many people made that mistake about Barack Obama...
Posted by: cvllelaw | January 28, 2010 at 03:43 PM
Obambi spoke too long and said the same old things that have already been proven to be lies.
although he is still a good telepromptor reader he has had better deliveries.
Alex, you might try to remember that the dems have controlled the budget since 06. and this administration's biggest accomplishment (as compared to most presidents) is that he has spent more money in one year than they all did combined...
but hey, no problem because they just raised the debt ceiling another two TRILLION dollars... (ahhh let the next generation pay for it)
Posted by: change | January 28, 2010 at 04:42 PM
Hey Alex Hamilton, Obama must be a miracle worker, he brought you back to life.
And it seems that he has also brought back your proposals for punishing tariffs, high taxes and federal assumption of state debts.
That you still favor these policies after 200 years of freedom and prosperity subsequent to their repudiation, suggests that you will not fare any better in today's more benign processes for defending one's honor.
