With voting records of 94% and above, I want to congratulate the following legislators for their "A" scores on the 2010 NLS Scorecard.
Patrick Hope- 103%Scott Surovell- 100%
Adam Ebbin- 98%
David Englin- 95%
Robin Abbott- 95%
Kaye Kory- 95%
Four of the six legislators with these scores are freshman- showing why many progressives now believe this is the best freshman class the Democrats have ever had in the House of Delegates.
See David's reaction to not being #1 in the sidebar.
How does one get a 103%? Extra credit?

ebbin is awesome! :-)

I wish you had scored HB 10.

I didn't score HB10 for a couple reasons- will explain that more later.

This scoring reminds me how pissed I was come college application time that Fairfax County was one of the only counties in the country with a 94% bar to clear to get an A.

Ha- I figured people who grew up in NoVA would appreciate the scale! :-)

what factors gave "extra credit?"
Posted by: Not Jim Moran | March 30, 2010 at 03:07 PM
Votes on the correct side were worth 1/1. Votes on the wrong side were worth 0/1.
On a bad bill (no vote expected) a legislator who sponsored was given a -1, and co-sponsors a -0.5 instead of a 0.
On a good bill (yes vote expected) the sponsor was given a bonus point (2/1) and cosponsors an extra 0.5 (1.5/1).
In the last column for additional extra credit, returning the NLS health care survey was worth 0.5 extra credit, as was any Republican voting against a death penalty bill (I didn't want to score those as a penalty for others, but thought those who stood up there deserved some credit). Democrats weren't eligible for those points.

Okay, Scott, 100% is just NOT good enough! I'm moving to Patrick Hope's district!
Congrats to the freshman 4!

Thanks for including HB 778 to publish voting records in the Internet indexed by member name. Hopefully, we'll get it through the Senate next year.

Who cares?

What about the Senate? Did you score the Senate?
Posted by: Not A Virginia State Senator | March 30, 2010 at 06:27 PM
I did not- the Senate was too difficult to do. If I can figure out a way to do it, I will do one in the future.

Could you at least re-do my graphic with a current photo, Ben? The Waaah-Lert picture is five years old! (Sadly, public life has resulted in less hair and more wrinkles!) My current photo is here: http://bit.ly/a91Phu
PS- What's the point of being a Delegate if I can't even out-NLS that Hope guy. I'm totally distraught! :-)

Putting aside my expected (and certain) support for Robin, who I know well, I would objectively comment on the NOVA stars on the NLS list-
What a fantastic group of legislators. NLS is correct - this class of Dems is full of future and even present stars that offer the Caucus real hope for the future. Not simply as progressives, but as well as principled leaders.
Thanks.

You should have omitted Del. Abbott, if you like her. Winning an NLS award sure isn't going to improve her prospects for re-election.;-)
