I completely agree... we need to lift the moratorium on land-based oil exploration and start drilling inside the United States, as opposed to off-shore. Louisiana and Texas are sitting on a larger oil reserve than Saudi Arabia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haynesville_Shale
Drill here, drill now to be sure -- but don't risk our oceans in the process.

Yeah, we'll pollute the oceans later, let's start with our water supply first.

Didn't Obama promise us a car that runs on Hope?

These accidents happen. If wasn't an off-shore rig, it could easily have been a ship - any kind, not just a tanker.
We aren't going to be able to know whether off shore drilling is worth it until we do some exploration and determine what kind of oil we're looking at out there. Until then, asking this question is premature.

Of course we need to stop providing any of our basic energy needs because we may have a problem once in a blue moon.
We really should depend on people who hate us for our existence until we find something that has no potential to harm the environment,
like windmills…
oops, sorry the Kennedys don’t like windmills because they screw up their view.
How about going back to oxen and horses?.. damn, their farts are killing the atmosphere..
Oil is out.. coal is out.. nuclear is out ….natural gas is out…Oh well, there is life on mars so maybe they can help us with this problem.
The only positive is that when we have no fuel for power, we will not have to read the crazy liberal diatribes because we will not be able to turn on our computers.
And Tatum, I bought one of those cars and got fired because my boss didn’t like the answer when I told him I wanted to get to work but I ran out of “hope”

Brian;
50,000 gallons per day for however long it takes to figure out how to plug an oil well 5,000 feet down on the bottom of the ocean, and buried under 500 feet of twisted steel. Never been done before.

You know, it's kind of funny. Generally, we talk about oil by the barrel, not by the gallon. 50,000 gallons of oil is actually about 909 barrels (barrels are 55 gallons). Exxon Valdez was 250,000 barrels.
Even if we're saying the leak is 5 times larger than we thought - meaning about 4500 barrels a day, it is still going to take almost two months to reach Exxon Valdez proportions.
The fact that it has never been done before doesn't make it impossible.
