No idea, but he does have a day job and Supervisor's duties. These guys were in New York anyway, so trekking down to the Hall of the States in DC wouldn't make that much of a difference.

Additionally, those interviews are often last minute. It likely would have taken too long for him to commute to DC, get into makeup, and get mic-ed up. Phone interviews happen all the time - its a petty thing to be critical about, Ben.

Pat works in the building next to my apartment in Rosslyn. It's about a 10 minute drive into downtown D.C. This is a digital era- a radio style interview is not smart when you get an opportunity to go national.

Do you know for a fact that they offered him a studio interview and he turned it down? Having worked with bookers for years, interviews with congressional candidates (ESPECIALLY with ones only running in a primary) oftentimes take place at the last minute, as filler or replacement guests. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happened here.
Again, its petty.
