You are right about this one Ben....and T-Mac cant save us from the Cooch...we need a plan B

Cooch is a dangerous ideologue who cannot be taken lightly: When Virginians are educated about his extreme positions I doubt that they would stand for them, but Democrats will have to give it everything we have to prevent him from doing even more damage to the Commonwealth than he's already doing

"I don't agree with myself 100 percent of the time." OMG - I hate to say it but I think in a primary he could beat Bolling.
Please come back Mark Warner for Virginia's sake then run for president.

you and the RTD are both guilty of misleading sensationalism.
"As he has in the past, Cuccinelli today made clear his intention to seek re-election as attorney general."
Obviously, some reporter, looking for a headline, asked Cooch about IF he decided to run for governor, would he consult Bolling, or step aside for him.
Move along folks, nothing to see here.

Cuccinelli will definitely run for Governor. He could care less about Bolling or anyone else for that matter. There will be no primary in 2013 it will be a convention. Ken's other move to have the convention filing fee raised to $50,000 is a move to prevent someone (a moderate) other than Bolling from getting in the race. He battles head to head for the far right and he wins the nomination. A more moderate third candidate might pull off the upset if they got in. Both of these action tells me he is definitely in!

I'm a Virginia voter and boy, does my Cooch stink.
Posted by: Google Robin Vanderwall | September 23, 2010 at 09:14 AM
Can't say I'm too surprised by this. He'd beat Bolling in a convention or a primary.

Anyone who thinks that Ken Cuccinelli can beat Bolling is either paid by Ken Cuccinelli, or Ken Cuccinelli himself. Bolling will be the Republican nominee for Governor in 2013 regardless of format. RPV could select "Cuccinelli Family Firehouse Primary" as the nomination method and Bolling would still find a way to win. Bolling is the darling of the VAGOP right now for gracefully avoiding what would have been a very destructive primary in a year when Republicans could afford it the least. He's served us very well as LG while being faithful to the principles that got him elected. The only way someone other than Bill Bolling wins the GOP nomination is if Bill Bolling decides not to run. Period!

hey, TJ, putting an exclamtion point on the end of your post doesn't make it true. Bolling is charisma challenged and really doesn't excite anybody. Cuccinelli stirs the base. Bolling barely beat Leslie Byrne who, in Virginia terms, is a communist. Not only would Cuccinelli beat Bolling, it wouldn't be close.
And trust me, I'm defintely not paid by Cuccinelli.
Posted by: steve vaughan | September 23, 2010 at 12:42 PM
Bill Bolling defeated Leslie Byrne despite a massive strategic failure at the top of the ticket in 2005. Regarding Bolling's ability to excite and energize -- I emplore you to find someone in VAGOP circles [not named George Allen] who can burn down a building verbally like Bill Bolling. Saying that Bill Bolling is charismatically challenged is like calling Napalm "flame retardent."

Mason Conservative suggested that Cooch might challenge Webb for his Senate seat in 2012.
If Cooch wants the job, it would be almost a shame if we have to settle for kicking Allen around again.

TJDavis- I was at the Republican Convention in 2009, and assume you were as well. Remember the building shaking everytime Ken's name was mentioned and the polite applause Bill got? Yeah, don't think this will be much of a contest.

I like Ken, a lot, and will support him for Governor in 2017. Unlike most of your readers, I think he's a fantastic, courageous AG. But Honor has too little a following in politics in some quarters, and it would be dishonorable for Ken to run for Governor in 2017, even if he wasn't part of the Bolling/McDonnell "deal" of last year.
Absent revelations about Bolling that I can neither imagine nor anticipate, I will support Bolling for the GOP nomination in 2013.
Posted by: James Young | September 23, 2010 at 04:48 PM
It would not be dishonorable for Cuccinelli to run for Governor in 2013. Whatever agreement McDonnell and Bolling made between themselves with regard to 2009, Cuccinelli was not a party to it.
I sincerely hope the Cooch never achieves any office higher than the one he currently holds. The voters will decide whether or not he should.
But dishonorable for him to run? Not at all.
Posted by: Dan | September 23, 2010 at 04:58 PM
Frankly, I hope Cooch doesn't run for governor. His judgment has worried me at times.
Posted by: John Wayne | September 23, 2010 at 05:36 PM
NLS-
We will have to agree to disagree on Bolling's strength as a candidate. But isn't it true that the State Central Committee selects the nomination method for statewide races? I seriously doubt that they will select a nomination method that is unfavorable to Bill Bolling and against the wishes of Bob McDonnell. Or has the nominating process already been decided?
Posted by: TJDavis | September 24, 2010 at 09:49 AM
I'm sorry, was your prediction that Ken would run for Attorney General again? because that's what the article you link says:
"As he has in the past, Cuccinelli today made clear his intention to seek re-election as attorney general."
Frankly, I'd rather see Bill run for Webb's seat. Then McDonnell could take out Warner.
