Last night, aided by very strong turnout in Franklin County the two candidates from Franklin were able to finish 1 and 2 in the six way Republican caucus to replace Robert Hurt. The winner was Bill Stanley. This Franklin County turnout advantage is despite the fact that the clear population edge within this district is in the Pittsylvania/Danville area where Democratic candidate Hank Davis (Chair of the Pittsylvania Board of Supervisors) is from. Stanley is a controversial figure within the GOP, and it remains to be seen if voters in the southern part of this district will rally around him.
For those of you interested in more on what could become a very interesting election to watch, check out my analysis on Danville TV last night.
Damn. That was actually pretty good analysis delivered almost eloquently.
Too many "experts" stumble over their word while talking too much when answering questions

I do wonder if Hank has a chance. I definitely think he will win by a huge margin in the City. I could see him carrying Pittsylvania. However, I am sure that Franklin is going to cancel out the City and I suppose Stanley will sweep Campbell as well.

It looks like Bill Stanley is going to be the next senator from that district. Hope I am wrong but Pittsylvania and Campbell are overwhelmingly r and Franklin isnt much less so.

I'm still trying to figure out why "Stanley is a controversial figure within the GOP." While I've barely heard of him --- probably NOT a meaningful measure --- what you've cited tells me he's got guts. A welcome change.

A party activist and volunteer wins a ultra-quick firehouse primary and some are surprised/amused?
This election was over the second Stanley announced.

James Young, Ask the great Tucker Watkins about Bull(shit) Stanley. Bull(shit) Stanley took away what Tucker had EARNED. We will return him as 5th district Chair.

Wow... The Star News is online? Was this followed by a commercial for the House of Stars?

I really like Bill Stanley and his gf Michelle, never heard anyone say anything negative about them. Bill will make a great Senator.
