Which one said this?
“In a perfect world, I would like to be able to kick out every single person who’s an illegal alien..."
(Sorry for breaking Godwin's Law.)

What's wrong with that? In a perfect world there wouldn't be any illegal immigration. In a perfect world there wouldn't be any crime at all.
We don't, of course, live in a perfect world.

Illegal Immigration is not a crime. It's an "administrative fault".

Trick Question- Hitler gave an almost identical quote in 1936.

Both,
I was going to let some people defend him and be outraged before I pointed that out. Thanks for ruining my fun. :-(
P.S. It was better in German.

This comparison is an outrage. I don't care how much you dislike Albo or his politics; or (I'm sure you didn;t think of this) how correct he actually may be . . .

I could have been more outrageous by asking if Albo intentionally was using language that Hitler had used.
Instead I gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed he was too stupid to know what he was doing.

You're comparing Dave Albo to Hitler? Really?
Posted by: Brian W. Schoeneman | January 31, 2011 at 09:01 PM
Nope, I'm not calling Dave Albo a mass murderer. I'm comparing his RHETORIC (and him using almost the exact same phrase in this article).

"I am hungry. I think I'm going to get something to eat."
What does this phrase have in common - everyone in this thread has said it once...AND SO DID HITLER.
Oh come on, Ben. For Pete's sake.

Brian, do you talking about kicking out illegal aliens as often as you eat?
Posted by: Stewart | February 01, 2011 at 10:38 AM
No, but I'm sure Hitler did.

That the discussion isn't about Del. Albo's bill is precisely why we should all avoid dropping H-bombs in the blogosphere.
It's just a very peculiar bill. Threatening to withhold state funds from a locality for its decision not to participate in an optional federal program. (It's my understanding Secure Communities is optional at this time- I could be wrong).
In any event, I'm pretty sure the administration wants to make the program mandatory in a few years.

Great to see more “civil” discourse.
Does the fury rise from the word “alien”? If it were replaced with “rapist”, “murderer”, “drug dealer” or “tax cheat” would it receive the same response?
Suppose he had just made the comment “In a perfect world, I would like to be able to kick out every single person who does not abide by our laws”
I believe it to be a laudable (albeit unattainable) goal to have a Commonwealth free of ANYONE who has broken the law.
Why is it that some want to put illegal aliens in a class outside the law? This enabling mindset is a big part of the problem.
Also, as the elections are still sometime away, shouldn’t all the allusions to Hitler, racists, neo Nazis, wife beaters, dog kickers, overeaters, and toupee wearers be saved until closer to the elections?

Btw.. did anyone else hear that Albo had lunch at Taco Bell and passed gas in the House chambers….
I suppose he is now in favor of turning the entire building into “gas chambers”??? Nazi???
Sheeze....are there no “real” issues?

Arlington attempted to get out of the Secure Communities Program but were told they weren't able to by the administration. And for good reason. Why should we protect illegal immigrants who are booking into jail for local crimes and not allow ICE to make the determination as to whether or not a detainer should be placed on them and put into removal proceedings? The Board of Supervisors clearly is clueless as to how the program works since it does not serve as a roundup against the Hispanic population but rather a tool for ICE to use to identify illegal aliens in the country and most importantly previous deported aliens or those who have absconded during their removal proceedings and have warrants out for them. Since all jurisdictions are using Secure Communities this bill doesn't serve much more of a purpose than what Secure Communities already does. The only difference is that during an investigation a trooper can investigate the status of someone they suspect. Given the recent cuts to the State Police recently, I'd rather see more money go towards hiring more troopers before we require them to perform more roles. Let Secure Communities do the work.
All Virginia jurisdictions are linked to Secure Communities. A smart bill would be to mandate by law that all jurisdictions participate in the Secure Communities Program just in case the administration offers a drop-out program. Those who oppose 287g should support Secure Communities because it keeps the decision making about whether to place detainers on illegal aliens in ICE's hands and not the officials from the local jurisdictions. I think anyone illegal alien who is convicted of a crime or even charged with one should be removed. That also includes Lawful Permanent Residents convicted of felony offenses or multiple misdemeanors like assaults and DWI's for example. There are plenty of illegal aliens who are not committing crimes so why not target those who are breaking the law first.

DanielK: That's one of the most persuasive passages about immigration law enforcement I've read in some time.
It seems like the principal duty for local law enforcement is the scanning of fingerprints, then it's up to ICE. Seems preferable to 287g in my book.
