Excuse me, I need to go throw up.
Worst. Column. Ever.
I wonder if the columnist even knew that this elected official has threatened students in the school system or left bizarre and outrageous phone messages for constituents.
Liz Bradsher is a lying freak that neither party wants anything to do with. She is unworthy of sympathy or compassion, because she has routinely failed to show it to her own constituents.
Nothing like writing a column with only one side of the story.
McCartney's getting lazy in his old age.

Unless this guy has an undisclosed personal bias in favor of Bradsher, perhaps this is simply a case of a reporter failing as a columnist and sympathizing with someone failing as a politician.

That's an unbelievably bad article.

That was a crappy column. I guess he was afraid to mention this blog by name lest more people come by to see some of the evidence about her behavior.

Brian Schoeneman write an excellent rebuttal at Common Sense, which should be given equal space at the WaPo if they had the guts to do it:

There is a "lack of civility" regarding school board races? That line made me laugh. No kidding! Fairfax County has been spoiled for the most part, by rubber stamping the school board which rubber stamps the Superintendent. But that is starting to change. School board races are the most personal and most vicious of any elections I've ever been a part of. It's how I accomplished the first layer of my own thick skin -- my father was a school board member -- and it's served me well ever since.
And the bottom line is that plenty of us have commented and posted about decisions including (but by no means limited to) the Clifton school closing and how infuriating the PROCESS was, who have nothing personal to gain by that decision, and have been very civil, and have posted under our own names. But I guess that doesn't fit into the "politician as victim" meme that I find so obnoxious these days.

Please tell me people aren't just now figuring out that McCartney is the sort of idiot who blathers in condescending tones on subjects he knows absolutely nothing about. He's been doing that for years.

It seems that if there is just one thing in common, and that can bring people in both parties and in no party together, it is our dislike of the PROCESS that Gretchen describes. Thanks, Gretchen. Excellent post.

"What's with all the junk comments popping up on wordpress and typepad blogs lately?"
Well, we try and keep Republicans from posting, but we can't legally stop them.

She just released on her FB wall that her family is moving from the house that they have lived in for 19 years. The whole situation is a shakespearean tragedy. I wish her the best.

Full disclosure - everyone should know that Dale and Weast take Post Reporters out to lunch every quarter so that the papers can get "their side of the story". They refuse to listen or print what parents think - I guess parents are considered "ignorant" and do not understand the "facts"

It is indeed a tragedy for the community but it can be prevented from happening again. The posters here are knowledgeable about the issues so it would be great if you would all please encourage other Fairfax citizens to be informed about the upcoming school board elections. More importantly, we all need to STAY informed after the elections. Whether or not you have kids in the system, we need to be wise stewards of the 50%+ of our tax dollars that are invested in our schools. We need to ensure that as much of that money as possible is directed towards the students, rather than on bureaucratic priorities.

This is definitely a blog worth following. You’ve got a great deal to say about this subject, and you can also tell that by the huge number of comments!
