I don't know what you are talking about Ben. A video just like this helped make me President of my high school A/V club.

If that is what we have to run against, I'm not worried.
Posted by: Not NLS | November 18, 2011 at 02:39 PM
We could do worse in the looks department, however. She should probably mute the camera and just stand there.
Posted by: Gordon Sumner | November 18, 2011 at 02:55 PM
Not NLS - Does that mean you ARE Larry Sabato?
Posted by: Will Radle | November 18, 2011 at 03:25 PM
I can't say! :D
Posted by: Not NLS | November 18, 2011 at 03:37 PM
Kim: if you're reading this, I can give you a few tips on doing this and getting the resolution right in the future. What sort of camera were you using?
Posted by: Andrew | November 18, 2011 at 03:46 PM
Thanks for the laughs!!!
Holy crap, I don't know what's worse, the stilted speech or the hands - WTF is up with the hands???
"Common sense"??? She surely didn't have enough to not release this video after watching it!!!
Posted by: Loudoun Insider | November 18, 2011 at 05:30 PM
Is that a real poncho, or is that a Sears poncho???
Posted by: Loudoun Insider | November 18, 2011 at 05:32 PM
She sounds like a Republican
Posted by: Spock | November 18, 2011 at 07:19 PM
If POTUS ON LEARN ON THE JOB SO CAN OH WHAT`S HER NAME?
Posted by: ARABICA | November 18, 2011 at 07:42 PM
Somebody needs to tell this gal that she doesn't do a video/audio on a street. This is a basic, 101 kinda campaign communication thingy.
Wish her luck though.

Bottle blonde.

I always wondered what it would look like if a Disney World animatronic figure did a local office campaign video. Now I know. She moves and speaks with all the lifelike action of the Franklin Pierce robot in THE HALL OF PRESIDENTS.
Her website is kind of fascinating too. Her bio mentions where her mom and dad went to school, but not where she went to school. It doesn't really say what she does for a living. Then, if you click on the picture of her with her dogs, it pops up some random stock photo. Weird. Some of the copy on the site is written so poorly that it makes me wonder if English is her second language...
Oh, and don't miss the page! It is what came up when I clicked any of her issue links on the "More" page.

Finally, I believe this is the first candidate logo I have seen where the star and swoosh are larger than the candidate's name because, you know, that star and swoosh are just big vote-getters.
This candidacy is a fail on every level...and that is without even knowing which party she aligns with.
Posted by: Larry Sabato's Hairpiece | November 19, 2011 at 06:45 AM
My error above...that link comes up when you click any of the left hand issue links on the "Focus" page...and who calls their issue landing page a "focus" page?
Posted by: Larry Sabato's Hairpiece | November 19, 2011 at 06:46 AM
We at least she has the guts to run for office and not just criticize. She is not afraid to put her own name out there and does not hide behind a pen name. The same is true for the other candidates running.

Wow, robots have come a long ways in the last few years. I was almost convinced she was human and then the awkward arm movements started.

Thanks for keeping a positive outlook, Carl.

Is the video terrible? yes. Did I make fun of it relentlessly with my household? Certainly. But dicusing it's merits based on how hot someone is, the color of their hair and referring to a woman running for office as a 'girl' is missing the point.
Posted by: ugh | November 19, 2011 at 02:54 PM
How will this election be done? Will it be a jungle primary or a primary then a general election?

Adding in: You people (including Ben) are fucking appalling. I don't know whether I'll support Kim or not (I suspect I won't), but jesus christ, I bet she's done more for residents of Arlington than any of you ever have. She's active and involved, in an amazing way. She's put herself out on the line, under her own name, at her own risk.
I invite the critics to STFU and give some respect until they can do the same.
Posted by: MB | November 19, 2011 at 08:42 PM
MB, YOU ARE RIGHT ON TRACK!
We want to encourage people to step up to serve. Constructive criticism can be helpful especially to new candidates; snide remarks can cut a person before they even get out the gate.
Kim wants to serve Arlington in a new capacity. That's great! What ideas, vision and experience does she bring to the office?
Let's stay tuned and find out.
Posted by: Will Radle | November 20, 2011 at 12:34 AM
My input, she sounds too conservative for Arlington, she also sounds like she would bend-over for developers and this pro-military thing is very Republican.
And she has not presented any progressive credentials.
This isn't Fairfax she doesn't have to play these games.
I hope we have better choices than her.
Then again, maybe the Greens will finally get a candidate in if she is the Dem candidate if the Dems want to spit on Arlington progressives.
We could finally use a good Green party politician in Arlington and Arlington is the county to finally elect one.
Posted by: Spock | November 20, 2011 at 02:43 AM
Spock, thanks for sharing your insightful perspective. It appears Arlington will have several choices for the seat.
As a recent candidate for Fairfax County Chairman, I was the only candidate speaking out against the trends the incumbent had set. For example, she has been lowering our investment in education, increasing students per teacher, and cutting teachers take home pay year after year.
To me, politics is 1 method of making a positive difference. It's about winning friends and influencing people. We need public servants who listen, take responsible action and work hard to genuinely respect all participants.
I am proud and thankful Democratic and Republican senators and delegates helped put me on the ballot. I am honored Independent Green Party trust me to address their concerns for less traffic, more trains and smarter energy policies. With innovative leadership, we can work together for our highest values and greatest priorities.
Thank you for remaining an active participant and for letting me share.

Will, you look like an interesting sort. Put up a website and lay it out.
I actually did some research last night and discovered the other Dems who have their hats in the ring.
I think it will be between Melissa and Mary Margaret, because knowing how the board works they need to replace a woman with another woman or else it looks like a sausage fest.
Melissa has a pretty good line up of endorsements including Mr. "Green"/Fergy and then there is Mary Margret who is an institution in herself. Should be interesting. But this Kim person is not ready for prime time, I think that is obvious.

Thank you, Spock! We are developing the site. We will launch the site when it is complete.

Well, Will, I wish you luck. You have that *nerd* thing going and I mean that in a good way!
If you have been paying attention *nerds* have been making the world of international politics nervous with their wins and gains.
The Pirate Party is making headway in Europe, and there are some very talented people on the internet who have been taking the world on activism to new levels.
Nerds are winning!

Clearly not ready for prime time.

Hmmmm, no kidding....
Posted by: CB | November 21, 2011 at 01:34 PM
Wow, that was just awful. I can't imagine why she chose to let people see it. What's with the hatchet hand chops?! Weird.
But she likes infrastructure and schools. yawn. And she likes the present but looks forward to the future, whatever that means.
