I've known Aneesh Chopra as a longtime friend, going back to when he was still an undergrad at Hopkins and I was a freshly-minted lawyer. He's a good guy, and from what I know a good husband and a good father...things I value in a man since I crossed the bridges into marriage and fatherhood myself over the past several years.
But I haven't had regular contact with him for a long time, and I'm surprised if he chooses LG as his first run for office--that's a pretty high starting point in what is a demanding state. He's always been an active Democrat, so I'm not surprised in general if he wants to run for office, and if he's the nominee I'll enthusiastically support him. But I imagine he's going to have an uphill primary fight against multiple Democrats who likely will have stronger resumes than him. With all the state offices open next year we have a great opportunity to get a foot back in the door, I hope we have good nominees who can take advantage.

Cyclone- prepare to be surprised then- he has a table at JJ and I'd say there is about a 95% chance he will be announcing very soon here.

I've seen him on Bill Maher and the View and he's definitely on track about Americans' overreliance on prescription meds. I'd support him.

A stronger resume than his, DCCyclone? Are there going to be a lot of Presidential cabinet members getting in the Virginia LT. Gov race?

Cyclone -
Who are all these "multiple Democrats" that you hear are running for LG? I've heard of virtually no one making legitimate moves yet for either LG or AG -- scary for us Ds. I'm even hearing the T-Mac is not making an "all in" commitment yet. Word is he's reluctant to run if Obama is reelected. It's not an anti-Obama thing on his part, just the fear based on recent history that the person who has been elected Governor for the past 40 years has been of the different party of the sitting President.

For LtG: Mike Signor is planning on running again, plus Chopra.
For AG: Tina Hone wants to run, Mark Herring may run.

I know nothing about Tina Hone. Anyone?

NotJohnMosby-
Never heard of this Tina Hone. I've heard speculation about Herring and Signer but have they done anything to get a real campaign going -- especially Herring?

Chopra has a fundraising advantage. Lots of local CEOs have a positive relationship. If VaDems play it right, thre are new sugar mommies around.

I have tremendous respect for Tina.

Herring just finished a campaign for state senate. As far as the down-ballot statewide slots, starting a formal campaign this year is a complete waste of time. With the national elections, who is going to have a dollar or a minute of time to give to someone running next year?
I'll start worrying about the down-ballot races in the 2013 elections this November 7th. Until then, I'm focused on getting Kaine elected, Obama, Scott, Connelly and Moran reelected, and to have 8 other Dems running against the Republican incumbents for Congress.

A smart guy like that knows where he can make real money, and it ain't by running for LG.
Not. Gonna. Happen.
