Those who follow Richmond saw Delegate Tim Hugo slip to a new low earlier this year when he voted to block the nomination of a highly recommended judge- Tracy Thorne-Begland- because of Thorne-Begland's sexual orientation. Unfortunately, Hugo refused to state his real reason for opposing this judge, instead claiming it had nothing to do with sexual orientation. Yeah, right!
But any efforts Hugo has made to try to avoid looking like a right-wing anti-gay bigot have gone up in smoke now.
Yesterday on Facebook, Hugo shared this status update:
"Concerned Women for America is making its way around the country and are coming to Virginia this week.
They have six stops throughout the state and I would like to encourage you and your family to come out and support the "She Votes 2012" bus tour.
For more information on locations please visit http://www.cwfa.org/SheVotes2012.asp"
Click on that link, and you will be shocked to learn an elected legislator is supporting a bus tour from this organization.
On the front page I chose the "culture and family issues" tab and this is what I found:
Under the headline "Activists Push for Normalization of Pedophilia" this organization compares the "normalization" of homosexuality to pedophilia. Yes, they actually compare gays to child predators.
This organization bullies gay teenagers, claiming their annual event "The Day of Silence" is seeking to "promote homosexuality and gender confusion" and offers advice to parents on how to block this program from their local schools. Because nothing promotes homosexuality like silence apparently...
Radical organizations can exist on the left or the right. But having a public official back a hate group like this- especially in Fairfax County- is pretty shocking.
For anyone paying attention the last few months have given people a look into Tim Hugo's character- and the results have not been good.

This time I think you are on to something Ben.
The guy gets a little of Prince William and now he wants to be like Bob Marshall all of a sudden.

I have always been confused as to why this guy is still elected to office.
He and Albo, can anyone answer why?

Believing that aberrant behavior shouldn't be reclassified as "normal" is the same as "hate"?
Seriously?

When you bully people and call them criminals it is.

Because they're solid elected officials who respond to their constituents and work very, very hard, Spock.
While I was critical of the votes taken during this debate, Tim Hugo was always 100% consistent in his belief that the Thorne-Begland issue was not about his being homosexual, but his activism in uniform. That's what he has said from the beginning, and I'm absolutely convinced he's sincere. He's not Bob Marshall - not even close.
